I loved hearing the behind the cards view and understanding the tactics that Edward was using. I knew that there was a game in here, and now I am starting to see it. Thanks for the great stream!
I backed this game on kickstarter, based on the designer name and a recommendation from the Dukes of Dice podcast. Once some preview videos were out, I started to regret getting it because the videos were just going over my head. (I think in part, because one person trying to show how a 4 player trick-taking game doesn't really work). I decided a couple of months ago to just keep it in shrink when I got it and to resell. This video DEMYSTIFIED it. It looks lighter/easier to grasp than it did based on other video reviews. 10 minutes in, and had to stop and write this review, while I crack the shrink on my copy. Once again, thank you HC!
I'm pretty much in a similar situation only i didn't back the KS. Heard a lot of good things about it, but couldn't grasp the game right away from the reviews, but now, after watching this, it seems so simple. I wish I backed it.
Thank you for turning me onto this game. I had it on my wishlist for a while, but finally picked it up over Black Friday (alongside a copy for a friend, since it was really cheap). Brilliant filler! I am really pumped after playing. Dense, super quick, and after a play to learn the rules, we were off to the races.
I think I should play this more, but I'm not sure if I want to. However, watching this video made me think about the game enough that I won't try and avoid playing this game in the future... I am a trick taking fan, growing up playing hearts on the computer and with family, then playing the heck out of Pinochle in undergrad, but I just didn't feel like there were many meaningful decisions the first time I played, the last half to three quarters of the game played itself and, even though I set myself up to win in the first 3 or 4 tricks, that just wasn't fun. Of course I am so grateful to everyone who puts up with streaming all day long to provide these great videos! Please keep it up!
I think I'd like it. But I would add another element from 18xx. Station tokens. These get randomly placed on the locomotives. After placing the locomotive the station token must get placed on a card that matches the station token company. Which means the run must include the station token card. A great way, as in 18xx, to dramatically change the value of a company. To make placing cards not irrelevant later on you can also place cards above and below. Your run must be consecutive and use a station token but it doesn't have to be in a straight line.
Loving this video. I enjoy this game, but have played it with folks who are more trick-taking gamers than train gamers, so they have a hard time thinking about playing out tricks with an eye on their share portfolio. I haven't had a chance to say so yet, but I love you guys' videos! Are you guys planning to play John Company? (I'm waiting eagerly to preorder my copy.)

+Andrew Browne Mission accomplished:) Glad you enjoyed it and it helped!

+Jeff Hayward That's as big of a compliment as we can get with these videos. Thank you so much, Jeff!

You guys have really done a lot to update your setup that I want to refer to these "older" videos as the HC Classic Live Stream View :)

Well, that's encouraging, Kenny! Thanks for chiming in and rest assured, the streams aren't going anywhere!
Narrative was great, fwiw. Nicely done.
