      Historic Rookie year breaking records left and right... and this is at her worst. This is an insane start... gives new meaning to the word Generational. And yet, all she cares about is winning. And getting better for the sole purpose of destroying all her opponents. She's a great person, but she's a hardcore killer on the court. If I was anyone else not on her team, I'd be terrified of her.

    Not necessarily the topic here, but up until this year the WNBA was a running joke. Literally the butt of jokes on late night TV, mocked and scorned as a "welfare league" and couldn't fill seats even if the tickets were free. Now we have certain WNBA team games going head to head with the freaking NFL and drawing millions of viewers. What changed? Can't not credit the change to Caitlin Clark with any degree of intellectual honesty.
    Now MVP, who is the most VALUABLE player? The player with a record 27 points, who is a great rebounder and defender (but team got worse) OR the player who with a record number of assists with a team that massively improved and, by the way, almost single-handedly transformed the entire league from the aforementioned joke to a legitimate sports league? We know where the votes are going to go, just because the former player was anointed MVP before the season started, but who is truly the most VALUABLE player?

    • @danielday3374
      @danielday3374 Месяц назад +1

      MVP isn’t a popularity contest and this massively improved logic is also a misnomer. Aliyah Boston added 8 wins to the Fever record in her rookie year and took them from the worst offensive rating to the 6th best offensive rating. CC added 7 extra wins to the Fever record this year and took them from 6th in offensive rating to 3rd in offensive rating. The defensive rating has stayed at 11th for both of their rookie years. Fever are 4-16 against teams over .500 which is the same as the LA Sparks who are the worst team in the league. Idk any criteria traditionally and historically used in MVP rankings in which CC is higher than 5th. I have her 4th, but even I can admit, it’s only because I watched her games more but that should never be used in an MVP debate. Once I watched more teams, I realised there are players who are much better and more impactful offensively and defensively.

    CC is ROTY and easily the most notable Rookie of all time in the WNBA. There are many valid arguments for MVP as well but she falls short in one regard. She never beat the Aces or the Lynx. Yes, she brought value to the Fever and a lot of it, but did she beat A'ja or Collier or show dominance over them? No she didn't. If I watch a title boxing match and it boils down to decision i need a reason that justifies that decision for the challenger to upset the champion, CC had that challenge against Collier and Wilson multiple times and didn't prevail and that matters.

      Interesting take and question. As far as Clark’s fans, I think they’d want the Fever to go all the way. A lot don’t care about the league itself, they’re just fans of Clark’s. Most don’t think they’ll win the championship, so they’ll get a chance to see the viewership tank.
      As for me, if the Fever don’t go all the way, I’ll just follow online to see who’s winning. That’s an improvement, since I stopped watching halfway through the 1997 season.
