  • since a lot of you asked for me to make a vid on the feedback that i got, i thought it would be nice to share it :) i applied in 2018 and 2019, this was the letter i got back from fitzwilliam college for my 2018 application.
    also, i did read the confidentiality agreements and it said i could not discuss any specific contents regarding the interviews and admissions assessment which i avoided in this video, i'm just reviewing the feedback and not the specific questions that were asked. ps. pls don't sue me hehe
    also, thank you for 600 subs!! if you haven't pls sub hehe / @kevlarryt

    Not sure how I stumbled across this video, but just wanted to say that I found it both interesting and insightful on your part.
    Unfortunately, as you obviously now realize, the interview is exactly where you both need to and absolutely should "show off" what you can do - not in an arrogant way, or pretending to know things that you don't really know, but by being confident and what you know and what you can do.

      Hey no worries! Some of the info online are rubbish, main thing for the interview I'd say is to be yourself and show a genuine interest in the subject. There are some good sites that provide some more in depth info on the interview. I know cambridge themselves have posted a few videos on it that were useful for me!

    Yh I mean at the end of the day you really need to have better gcses. It’s unfortunate because ik a lot of people who didn’t try during gcse and are actually extremely smart when they specialise to 4 subjects they are actually passionate about. But on the other hand the best candidates get a* without even trying.

    • @d.1ghosh
      @d.1ghosh Год назад +1

      true, but I can say as someone from a good grammar that there is a LOT of help available, some kids don't need to try because their teachers have boiled getting 9s at GCSEs down to a a literal science. It is a very unfair system and I agree that some very intelligent kids are getting a bad deal if they go to a mediocre school or have inexperienced or slacking teachers.

    There are 27,000 universities in the world. This year Leeds University is ranked at 86 the QS international tables which brings it within the top one third of one percent of world universities.. It is of course a Russell group university. The top 100 employers in the UK (ie The High Flyers' report which is viewable online) ) publish an annual ranking of the 20 universities whose graduates they favour most. In the real world this counts for quite a lot more than the often baffling and sometimes downright bizarre national rankings that appear in publications like the Times and the Guardian newspapers (Lancaster and Loughborough universities were consistently placed as top ten universities in the Times national rankings???!!! You have got to be kidding!!!).
    For 2022 the High Flyers' list places Leeds at number 5 out of 120 UK universities for the employment appeal of its graduates. Cambridge is ranked at number 7 and Oxford is ranked at number 10.
    As the biggest centre outside London for banking and legal services Leeds is the wealthiest city in the north of England with upmarket shops, restaurants and cafes. The university has a very attractive and safe campus 10 minutes walk from the busy city centre with its attractive blend of Victorian and Neo Classical as well as glass and steel commercial buildings. In and around the campus itself there is some lovely architecture and a buzzing social scene.
    Of the UK's 120 universities Leeds falls consistently within the top three for the number of applicants. With an impressive international standing for the quality of its research and a first rate social scene Leeds will always be a serious choice for a great many academically gifted undergraduates and postgraduates. It is the 51st most international university in the world.

    Ultimately the university you go to doesn't make any difference to your career chances. The average person coming out of Oxbridge vs any other uni has as much chance as each other to land a good job after graduation. I graduated in 2016 from Edinburgh Uni and I worked alongside Oxbridge grads and we started at the same level.
    Plus probably a good learning point for you to not talk yourself down through fear of looking a certain way to others. If you'd have gone into more depth and your knowledge was correct, it would have emanated confidence on the topic, not arrogance. If you don't intend to look arrogant, likely the person you're talking to won't see it like that.

    • @kevlarryt
      @kevlarryt  3 года назад +1

      Yeah exactly! Kind of fearing looking arrogant had a negative impact on how I tried to present myself, I started acting as if I was someone I was not

    • @willsduh2219
      @willsduh2219 3 года назад +4

      Not completely true, the average graduate level employment from oxbridge us higher, (as in to say a higher number of people walk into a job) and also the average pay for oxbridge students is higher. (Though this is not to say others from other uni’s cannot do well, but rather to say the number from oxbridge is higher)

    • @peterarthur3380
      @peterarthur3380 Год назад

      With respect, Adam, I know it is NOT generally true that the university you go to makes no difference to your career chances. In the UK (and I am from the UK), I have attended various recruitment sessions where the candidates/interested parties were split into 'Oxbridge' and 'Other Universities' groupings. It was pretty to me on each occasion that the employer in question preferred Oxbridge applicants. Outside the UK, where I am currently based as a teacher, it is not uncommon to have jobs that require the successful candidate to have attended an Oxbridge/Ivy League University. That said, I am a great believer in the adage "the cream rises to the top". If you are academically strong, and you keep on developing yourself (especially in a holistic fashion), then whatever university you go to, the future will always be bright career-wise. Yes, connections and associations with prestigious academic institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge University will always have value, but positive mental attitude (PMA) is, and will always be, the main key.
