Dropped my floating handheld in the water during a sail in light seas. Turned back to get it and could not find it. That alarm function is a great idea.
Just watched this again Clark and though I have a new one hand held VHF put aside ready for my next Sailboat, this one .oops to be far better for the Tender when heading to and from shore tbh, and I think I'll be picking one up when I get to the USA. Thanks for finding it, and Best Wishes from Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️
It’s a neat radio. I think the water alarm works exactly as intended. You don’t want the alarm to go off when it’s raining or so. I’m thinking you can use this radio as a bilge alarm too, lol.
You do a very fine job with your reviews Clark. My first question was does it float and right at the beginning you said you would be throw it in the lake at the end. So I did not need to put that question in comments. However that also cost you all those comments, which I think fewer comments hurt the algorithm. : D, I may have missed it but did you say in what country the radio was made?
Well thanks for commenting anyway. When I film I'm thinking about communicating with the viewer and generally flowing. I'm not very good at also scheming the algorithm when I'm in front of the camera. But you are right Number one is shares, not for reviews but in general people share links to my videos with friends a LOT. Then comes comments and likes. But I guess the most important number is subscribers but you can only do that once.
@@Clarks-Adventure I just asked the Amazon AI wanting to know the frequency range of that radio since there seems to be a variance of ranges. But, the AI just said to refer to the manual. lol.
Clark, I'm sure there are folks that need/want a VHF radio that are complete idiots. That's who they write the manual for, but then along comes the new and improved model of idiot and they have to rewrite the manual. Sad but true. Looks like a nice VHF. I don't have a lot of use for one but I do have a 14 ft fishing boat I take into navigable water now and again so it might be something I'll look at. Keep the good stuff coming.
Hi Clark. I'm really taken with this small Handset VHF, and just had a thought, is it by any chance able to have its Lithim Battery charged via a Smart USB Charger, as there is a brilliant gentle charger made by Samsung you can get that has an output of only 15 Watts. it may need to have 2 batteries, and a different way of Charging them, but should give a reliable service life of up to 5 years - but before 5 years is up, replace with new batteries, as they start dissolving internally from about 5 years ? I have Samsung Smart Chargers with USB A and C Sockets and herein the UK, they are available from under £7 each, which is a pretty good deal. larger output ones are available, but defeat the Object as really fast charging damages the Lithium batteries, as do WiFi Chargers. . 🤔 Best Wishes. Bob. 👍
If you want to charge one outside the radio I'm sure you could use most any li-ion cell charging circuit. But I bet that is what you are referring to. Yes keep the charge rate slow because these don't track temperature and I'd only charge when I was on the boat and awake. Something like this maybe www.ebay.com/itm/334771525071?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2ydVR4eJRgm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=3Zp5jgUhScS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY With the right contacts it could charge any single cell you have like as battery size
@@Clarks-Adventure . Yes charging Outside the radio would be fine, and the beauty of these Samsung Smart Chargers is they monitor literally everything necessary and do make nasty Lithium ion Batteries last their full service lives with no problems, and people just need to get the batteries changed close to the end of the 5 year limit, to play safe, and avoid anything with truly rapid charging. Possibly device ma ufacturers will pick up on this, and make life easier for themselves by shifting towards providing USB C charging sockets and including a Samsung 15 watt Smart Charger in the box, with a warning Not to use high wattage Fast Chargers. Fingers crossed and things like Mobile Phones need to return to having easy access Battery Changing compartments which will make life a lot easier for udtomers. The last phone I had that had easy Battery access was a BlackBerry Z 10 if I remember right, and it was easy to carry a fully charged spare battery. Still, Brilliant Review Clark, and I'm getting one of these as soon as I'm back in the USA. Bob. 👍
I would like one for free too, but at $90 the value is relatively poor. For another $17 one can get a Standard Horizon HX210. But honestly, $16 Baofengs are hard to beat. $90/$16 = 5.6!! Yea, 5 BFs cost less than one RT rm22. Like most Hams I own a few HTs including BFs, Retivis RT3S, ... I have used a Baofeng in the rain. You would be surprised at how weather resistant they are. Yes, I have not dropped one in the water, but at $16 who cares if it dies, grab another. I am not bashing Retevis (who are rebrands). I own two: RT96 VHF/UHF mobile (my car) and the RT3S HT. The RT3S which I flashed with the open source GD77 is bas ass! It has a built in GPS, does true APRS, Satellite mode, VHF/UHF analog and DMR, all for $85. Again the Standard Horizon (aka, Yaesu) is hands down the better value.
Correction: I own the RT95 VHF/UHF 25W mobile rig (opened up to the marine band though I do not use it for Marine operation). Also, using a Ham HT with the free CHIRP programming software easily programs all needed channels making it a more useful/suitable Marine VHF clone useful for "emergencies".
@@dreupen Hi there. 👍 I have a brand new Standard Horizon that I picked up cheap about a year ? ago on Amazon Black Friday Sale . Great radio I concur, plus I have a number of different Boefang Radios I have reprogrammed to VHF Marine Frequencies. tbh, I'm going to grab one of these rebrands, as the Standard Horizon is for use in the Cockpit of the Sailboat, and to me, this little Rebrand is perfect for use going to shore, and back from shore dedicated for the Tender. With a spare battery, if I can sort out Smart USB Charging for them, frankly I'll be delighted, as handheld VHF to Handheld VHF comms is sorted out at very reasonable overall cost ? Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔

@NatTate-f7e if you want to do the beofeng trick download some software called CHIRP
@@Clarks-Adventure the Chirp website I just looked at said the Revetis RM40 was not a product supported. It showed no RM radios.
That's for the opened ham unit. This is a proper marine vhf. Just turn it on and use it

You should review the Icom radios. We have been very impressed with ours. We hate the standard horizons at one point we was changing them every year.
Would it be possible, maybe, to make an even broader review of several brands in one episode?
I'd have to borrow some from other boaters but that's an interesting idea.
PS. I'm not doing Sweden this trip
Just Greece
