When I lived in France, in a suburb just next to Paris, I often watched The Avengers on TV in French. It seemed different but fun in a way. There were many repeats with the Tara King episodes, they were my favourites. I really miss Paris.
A great show. In the USA in 1968-69, the Avengers was scheduled in the same time slot on Monday evening against Rowan & Martin's Laugh In. The Avengers should have been scheduled for another day (Tuesday/Thursday/Friday) at an hour later. Also, I was glad to see The New Avengers - which was a wonderful sequel. Too bad that series did not last longer.
Steed did carry a gun at times when convenient to the story. The main thing he didn't do was drive. His driving scenes were usually his stuntman or in studio back screenshots; when he did have to drive, he stayed in second gear. I don't think he even knew how to shift those old Bentleys. Dianna Rigg did seem to like driving fast and did wreck at least one of her Lotus Elans. She commented later that she had never seen so much fiberglass scattered everywhere after crashing one. Diana Rigg actually did the driving on that ice racing part of OHMSS. The stunt driving coordinator commented that she was a natural rally car driver. That huge 427 Cougar was probably the worst car possible to drive on ice. If one looks closely, Dianna Rigg puckers her lips when really concentrating, like during that race scene.
@@junheceta268 I think Jennifer Croxton would have been a disaster. An "Emma Peel" CLONE would not have pleased most fans I'm sure. A mediocre episode (Killer) didn't help either. I think it was very wise to go with a completely different character altogether.
Why no mention of Elizabeth Shepherd who was the first Emma Peel? I think she did about 3 episodes. Apparently the producers didn't like her, so she was let go, and then they brought in Diana Rigg. Cheers.

The one thing I completely disagreed with Brian Clemens was about Linda Thorson. He couldn't have been more wrong IMHO. Nor was there ever really a need for "mother".
I really liked Mother. I thought it added humour to the series. Patrick Newell was great, as was 'Rhonda'. I wish they had given Rhonda more to do, like some action scenes.
"Mother" was forced on Clemens by ABC in the states, and earlier than that, Clemens felt they couldn't offend their (now) principal financier by rejecting Linda Thorson, whom he felt was wrong for the role, too young, and "not good at comedy." Both the choice of Thorson and the backward turn toward less wacky storytelling were at the insistence of ABC in the US. And that doomed the show, independent of the competition from "Laugh In." The Thorson episodes are largely ordinary and dull...very sad.
@@eerievlad I found some of the best episodes of the series were with Linda Thorson and having seen Thorson on stage, I must say, she was actually quite a good comedienne. She was hilarious on One Life To Live circa 1990.

Starting with frame # 1:01 - this will always be remembered! R.I.P. Dame Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg, DBE - the world will never forget Mrs. Peel...
Best theme song EVER.
DAVE LEE : AC Soul Symphony - The Philly Avengers ........very good vibes !!!

Très interessant documentaire. Merci pour ce partage.
Mrs. Peel Is My Favorite! Best Stories!💙
This is so good. I adore the idea of Macnee's that Steed is like the Scarlett Pimpernel.
Merci pour ce documentaire très intéressant.

Super couple Britannique👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Well-done, indeed, BRILLIANT!
Honor Blackman-Mme Gale, tres belle.
Excellent documentaire a écouter avec la musique en fond de DAVE LEE : AC Soul Symphony - The Philly Avengers !!!!
There's only one John Steed.
Donald Monat played Steed on Springbok Radio in South Africa.
Un beau feuilleton 😊😊
I disagree with the criticism About Linda Thorson. She was Great!🌛
No she wasn't. She was the worst. I wish Lady Forbes-Blakeney had permanently replaced her.
@@junheceta268 she was great!
She was great in bed with the producer.
I agree with you ! It's just we were used to Emma Peel who was great but she did fine !!

All 3 of the females were fantastic..but Diana has to get the nod (of the bowler)..
Emma Peel was the best
and she was the most unique actress you can imagine

Do you paint over the patches the same day or how long do you wait until you paint over it?
Could you give me a clue?
