Remember that Daphne needed Simon to explain masturbation to her, and her maid to explain actual sex. This is what happens when mothers are too prudish to talk to their daughters candidly.

This is so funny, but I kind of sympathize with Eloise and Daphne. Fortunately I found out sooner, but I was also sheltered and my parents tried to keep me in the dark for as long as possible. I was shocked when I first learned that you could get pregnant outside of marriage at 11 from a novel, and was terrified when I first got my period at 12 because I knew I was then capable about getting pregnant but didn’t know *how*. Thank goodness for middle school biology class lol.
Damn… you must have felt so panicked…. Yes, this is why it is INCREDIBLY important that there be good and proper education on the subject. "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" should be standard reading material.
That wasn’t curiosity, that was fear. The poor girl doesn’t want a child and she has no idea how it even happens and nobody will tell her. You can’t really blame the mother here. This was a forbidden subject for young unmarried women in their period/ regency era: You have to consider the period this show is in. For me Collin and Benedict were the best. Their dialog with Eloise and Violet...it was really funny😂

It would be scary to believe you could get pregnant just on a whim, I'm sure it was pretty common for women to not know, and have that fear.
