      +Taz Khalid it sure did look a little worn. maybe he should just strip the cable off and real on some para cord. lol. To be totally honest I have never viewed his channel. I was looking for a small block and tackle set for a boat baby cradle for my sister in law who is due next spring. figure it would be fun to do in the shop this winter when it's to cold to work on my rat rod. This is the cradle I want it to build. and want to use some real small hemp rope and couple small snatch blocks to make a little hoist.

    There are some really thin ropes/cordage made from dyneema fibres that have quite impressive break strengths. So it stands to reason that using a block and tackle that lifting large loads by hand is possible. Just be aware that tying knots in cordage could greatly reduce that breaking strength of the rope right at the knot.

    • @simeonandalex
      @simeonandalex  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, we calculated that before. The knot we used still had 64% strength which was plenty for what we did.

      bwillan I'm pretty sure this IS dyneema cord. sure looks like it but I might be wrong

    I didn't hear Simon say anything about buying one, just that someone sent it to him to evaluate it. He did and gave a very honest opinion based on his personal experience, give him credit he never said go buy one or that it is sooooooo good we should all go get one. I think he would have researched it the same as anyone/everyone else would/should have. If he didn't, or anyone else didn't, and paid for it then he got what he paid for. The guys a farmer, ever try to pry a penny out of a farmer's wallet....good luck!

    The cord looks like SK75 Dyneema, I use a larger diameter version, 12mm IIRC which I made into a whoopie sling to run snatch blocks for my Portable Winch Company PCW5000. I'm sure your brother is familiar with SK75 as it's often used to attach lowering bollards/Porta wraps to trees when dismantling.

    He has a winch, all he needs is anything like a pulley to hang above the bag. Really, you could rig up something for the cable to pivot on, if you didn't have a pulley. Someone else has to have thought that too. Unless I'm missing something.

THE STRESS ON THE ROPE BETWEEN THE PULLEY AND THE MAN OR THE DEVICE PULLING ON THE ROPE IS 4 TIMES LESS IF USING A DOUBLE PULLEY AS WAS SHOWN ON SWEDISH HOMESTEAD. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_and_tackle , ( DON'T BE SO FAST TO JUDGE )!!!!

    Silly piece of "gear", in my opinion. That block could be twice as big - and thusly more robust - while still being totally "compact" enough. And the cordage is too thin to work with comfortably. Also, if it's the best parachord, it's not nearly as good as Dyneema, so why not actually HAVE real Dyneema?

    • @TeeyoDoubleDee
      @TeeyoDoubleDee 6 лет назад

      Maybe it is silly to you, but this "silly" piece of gear could pull/lift a tree down on a trail, pull up game for skinning, etc. and stow in your pack.
