I've had the Optigrill for a couple of weeks now and it was switching to manual as soon as I put the meat on sometimes, not all the time. I found out that if you don't wait till the unit is preheated and the bell rings and flashes it will go in to manual mode every time. If you want the program to work properly you must wait till it's preheated. I love it and it cooks everything just perfect when you do it right. I had the George Forman grill for years and the Optigrill is so much better.
I totally agree with you about the quality of the food, but my issue is with the quality of the product itself. When the unit is calibrated properly it will not go into manual mode by itself and you don't have to special things or wait any extra time for it to work properly. Again, my issue is with the reliability of the product and not with the quality of the food it cooks. Hope this helps you understand what I'm saying. Thanks for your statement.
I recently purched a 2020 model, and there's a sheet in the box saying that you can only put food under a certain thickness on the grill now. So maybe that was the issue causing it to go into manual mode?
No, I don't believe so because all I cooked on it was burgers and chicken breast and nothing was over sized. Just over time it got out of calibration. Plus, they gave it a calibration mode so that we could recalibrate it, so I'll go with that for know until you find the answer. Thanks for the info!
cynanne1 sorry to hear your not going to purchase the grill. I love my 3rd grill and would not no what to do if I did not have it. I don't have the issues anymore because I learned how to reset it. Once I learned how to reset it the grill was great. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem with the grill switching back to manual mode. It really is very annoying to say the least. I did try your method of leaving it open, and it worked for my first round of burgers. The issue came when I tried to cook the second round. I held the grill open again and when it was ready I added my bugers. As soon as I closed the lid it fliped back to manual mode.I honestly would not recommend this grill if it doesn't work properly.
I had the problem but I simply open the unit wide open and close two or 3 times. I then turn it on and it works as it should. If you’re going to do a second cooking, you have to go through the warm up procedure again. It has worked flawlessly ... love it
+philyfred sorry to hear, but just wanted you to know that I love my third unit and after recalibration of this unit I have not had any issues. Make sure you know what model you want and do research on that model because each model is different. I can only speak on my model and the issues that I am having with my model. Again my model I would not recommend because of my experience with it. Hope this helps.
I did cook a steak to medium was ok but Ill take your advice and spend the money on a good quality steak I did cook some burgers on medium it was ok...it cooks fast I'm impressed for an electric grill I'll hate to see when it has a computer brain fart it might burn all the time but for now i'll keep it.
Just order mine glad I found this video in case problems happen later. Thanks And btw about chicken breast do you think it taste like restaurant style chicken breast?
Malcolm Marzo, yes it is unreliable but I love it like a fat kid loves cake. Here is the problem for me. Do I tell people to purchase it when I now the issues with it. I am going to do another review, but it will focus on caring for the unit. Hope this helps.
Please try again and temp it. The tfal over cooks your food so it should never come out rare if your using the colors. Also, just fully cook it and see if you like it, also please temp it. I also temp any food I pull off any grill. Hope this helps??
I just purchase this grill decided to cook a steak which I haven't had in months and as soon as I hit the meat cycle it went into manual burnt the shit of of the steak not impressed thanks for the video ill try one more time with the steak.
If you have one or will soon purchase one. The first time the button goes to manual by itself and you burn your food. You will wish you had paid attention to me complaining.

Thank you so much for this review . It really helped .
Your Welcome!
Nice to hear your honesty. It's lower price on Amazon but I'm not risking it. Thanks for your input.

+Thembi Tirado try my recalibration video and it should get it working like new.
MrNORE14 thank you. I will certainly try the recalibration method tomorrow.

Thank you for an honest review, it helped a lot in deciding not to buy one.

Andrew Taylor better if your cooking with quality chicken breast.
MrNORE14 thanks appreciate it
It does
Unreliabilty seem to be the main issue with this. Thank you.

Boy, I wonder what would happen if you took the grill outside 😱😉
Took mine and a week or two later it stopped working. So, its up to you but the chicken was fire that I cooked outside. Mom loved it. Then it broke.
My to
I'm not happy with mine !
When I cook my steak i do it medium and it will come out rare !
NOT GOOD ENOUGH TEFAL !!!
IM TAKING MINE BACK !
Please try again and temp it. The tfal over cooks your food so it should never come out rare if your using the colors. Also, just fully cook it and see if you like it, also please temp it. I also temp any food I pull off any grill. Hope this helps??
@@MrNORE14 what's TEMP it mean ?
Is that doing it manually?
I appreciate your advice!!
@@philpowell9111 yes take a probe and manual temp it. You my thinks it's rare but its not because it over cooks your meat. But it still stays juicy.
@@MrNORE14 Thanks bro I will do that 😊
And much love from Australia!

Too long just cook after your telling whatever issues you had. Didn’t watch to hear you complain for more than half the video

So the guy is being honest, and YOU complain? Seriously?
