She can dance!!!! The quality of movement is gorgeous and choreography is age-appropriate. The articulation of her feet...the lovely connecting movements...and she is a lefty! She is light, exact, in control of her technique, charming, and simply dazzling. This is the art of ballet and not the same 4 circus tricks we see all the time now. David Howard coached her great talent well. Wow! And only 13 years old!
I'm a big Katherine Healy fan and I was so happy to find this video of her early works. Her movements are so effortless as if floating on air. No wonder she is the best in the world. I could watch these videos all day and night endlessly.
Beautiful as always. I don't think Katherine Healy even as a six year old ever 'lacked' maturity. She was a child prodigy. She had an exceptional understanding of movement, performance and the way she floats around the stage and uses her arms shows someone way more mature than 13. She was a principal dancer two years later at 15 years old! Thank you very much for uploading this!
Totally and absolutely perfect in every respect! There is nothing lacking in Katherine's performance here. Delightful, wonderfully entertaining and mesmerizing! My favorite even today.
OMG! I used to go to see American Ballet Theatre often in the mid-70s, and Katherine was just scarcely more than a tot them. She'd be in the audience with her parents and looked like the proper little ballerina even then. She was a student and apparently a favorite of the company members. I remember seeing her with some people waiting backstage. She was holding a Spanish fan. Someone asked her where she got it and she said in a teeny voice "Gelsey gave it to me!" That would be Gelsey Kirkland.
Thank you for this. I remember this competition as if it was yesterday. Considering it was over 30 yrs. ago, audio & visual is very good. Katherine Healy was just sublime - like a little Irish sprite. What a dream.
Just watched Six Weeks on Amazon. What a tremendous dancer she is. And this variation is beyond long, I mean, wow! Her strength, stamina, and artistry are phenomenal!
You have a good ear! It is indeed a medley of Too ra loo ra loo rall (aka Irish Lullaby), and it's actually not You Raise Me Up, because that song was made way after this, but interestingly enough You Raise Me Up borrows the main melody from Danny Boy (aka Londonderry Air) which is why it sounds o familiar. The allegro section at the end is called Fantasia on the Dargason. It's a really lovely arrangement.
I agree. It's like commenting on a 6 month old who is already walking and claiming they clearly lack the maturity and technical depth of an adult instead of pointing out the outstanding accomplishment. LOL I mean, wow, she was already a highly accomplished ballerina beyond her years. To be so young and so capable of competing against older dancers at that time is almost a once in a lifetime. You just don't see such discipline in dancers at that age. I certainly would not have called her 'baby' either. She was at that time a young, up and coming future principal dancer. That fact was clearly demonstrated in this video.
I have to disagree, respectfuly, with your description of this dancer as having "quite clearly lacking the maturity and technical depth of later years" She makes every movement seem effortless and enjoyable, especialy for a child that IS dancing a mature peice. Thankyou for posting this, though :-)

The last bit was Irish Washerwoman
I agree. Her movement quality is exceptional and I was moved by her performance. If she competed today, I believe she would still get top honours. 💐
This is Danny Boy as interpreted by Lynn Stanford with choreography by David Howard.

So graceful :)
Wow she was amazing incredible talented
Bravo! I usually dislike modern ballet, but this routine incorporated both classical and modern (and Irish!) into a delightful performance.
wonderful
really good!
amazing! so effortless! :)
amazing i hope someday my performance would come to this level

So pretty!! I wish I could do ballet right now but I have to wait...
Really great.
muito linda, parece uma borboleta! perfeita.
Did she do 3 double tours en l'air? This is a wonderful piece of ballet, I love it !!!
This is a version of Danny Boy...breathtaking!
@nuttymom1966
Yes, "high speed turns" including chainee turns of course! She's really exceptional!
Comment elle fait pour tenir toute cette variation =O Elle est magnifique !
DID SHE DO A SKATING JUMP AT THE END ???
@nuttymom1966
Wow, that makes sense!
Any high speed turns look so easy for her!
for her age she shows great maturity
she is beautiful. Its a shame the sound and video quality are low.
i wish the infor section focused more on her amazing talent than how "lacking" she is... I mean, jeez she was 13. shes fantastic.

See, there was a time when a great ballerina did not have to demonstrate the ability to tap her straight knee to her ear, usually in mid-air.
i agree

Wing Sum Wong Danny Boy

Louisa Kellogg I can send it to you
hello, i am looking forward to find this music too, ireally love it. Do you think can you send it to me, please? Thank you a lot.
Lacking maturity and technical depth? It's clear you don't know what you're watching when you watch Katherine dance.
Does she even have pointe shoes on !? It barely looks like it !
