This two part episode is the closest The Green Hornet Series came to resembling a Batman episode. It is very colorful. Billy May did a great job on the incidental music! Very Jazz oriented and moody. I recently bought a Al Hirt album called "The Horn Meets The Hornet." I was fortunate to find a sealed stereo copy for $35:00. On the album's cover is a very cool picture of Al Hirt holding his Trumpet with Van Williams/The Green Hornet holding his Hornet Stinger both men smiling. I was 9 years old when the show premiered and would collect Green Hornet gum cards and stickers. Those were the days!
It was often found during editing that Bruce Lee was making moves faster than the camera could film them. He was constantly being reminded to slow down so his moves could be seen by the viewers. Something he tried to do, but always had trouble in doing.Ever had something accidently knocked off a table or desk top, and then you caught it when it was falling, without even having to think about doing so? That's how fast he could move.Simple the best ever!
If you watch a lot of the fight scenes you'll notice Lee's martial arts skills were still developing, he often fights to regain balance after a kick. And in several episodes his skill with weapons leave a lot of room for improvement specifically the episodes "The hunters and the hunted" and "Preying mantis"
Bruce's speed was faster than a Camera's shutter speed, it's shown in the long beach footage where he's showing the striking power, and you see the flash going off later than his reflexes
Even as a kid when the show originally aired I recognized that Van Williams was hunk material, he and Wende were a "super " couple waiting to happen and the one and only Bruce Lee, too bad ABC decided not to stick with it awhile longer, loved it and Batman, forever a piece of my 60s childhood..
Loved these as a kid, in '66, and they hold up very well indeed. Some viewers have wondered what city they were supposed to be in. Well, looks like it must be ... Chryslerville!
lee's speed is amazing, i read that he said he had to slow it down for the cameras to catch the motion. love that knock out at 12:35 wow..... wish i has 1/64th that good
That was the coolest punch i think i've ever seen Bruce Lee use at 12:23.Beat that Chuck Norris! It's so funny that rock music gets hammered for subliminal messages yet classical is the culprit in this episode.Play some Paganini and people will do stuff like fucking everything that moves and punch out their bosses at work.oh the horror of it all.
Thanks so much for presenting this series. I haven't seen it since 1966. It came on Friday nights at 8pm. Unfortunately for me, the Wild Wild West came on at the same time. I would watch Green Hornet, then turn on Wild Wild West and catch the last 30 minutes.
Though I don't wanna take anything away from Bruce Lee cause he was pretty cool and he made the show popular, not enough credit goes to Van Williams after all he was the star of the Green Hornet Mr.Williams you were a much better Green Hornet then Seth Rogan you will be missed.
Curious production style. The outside scenes were filmed during the day, but with filters to make it look like night time. This dark style was intentional, also allowed the great Black Beauty car to have those green lights. Still, it's all very dark and sometimes we could just see more detail.
So far this is my favorite episode, and another example of how The Green Hornet and Kato are totally badass! After they blow up the armored truck driven by heartless killers, the Hornet and Kato run up to the truck which is in flames: GH: "Nothing we can do here." Kato: "Yep." And they get back in the Black Beauty (the rolling arsenal) and take off. AWESOME!!
Even though Bruce had to ( Severley) HOLD BACK in everything he did as 'Kato,' he none the less STILL looked Great in his movements! Later in life I came to know that Many dudes out there desired to train in Kung Fu. The series with David Carradine also inspired young people like myself.
bogiewheelman71 The ratings just weren't big enough to sustain it on the air, BoogieWheelMan. ABC wanted another Batman on their hands, but because the show was done in a straight forward style, while Batman was done for laughs, ratings for The Green Hornet dipped after the 5th episode and never recovered.
@@dariowiter3078 Time proven that this show was far and away ahead of it's time and between this show and Batman this by far was the better show and it's lasted the test of time
In the chase scene after the armored car the Batmobile's Bat Ray would have proven to be extremely effective. Batman would fire a continuous beam that would move left to right faster than the armored car could move to avoid it. And the beam could blow out its rears tires and burn through the car's armor like a red hot knife cutting through a stick of butter!!!!! Kato has to add this weapon to Black Beauty's arsenal!!!!!
...my fathers name was bruce and i will remain "appropriate".,... (From the years when one could say, "just because its new. Dosent mean its shinier...,.")
why in the hell did the guys in the armoured truck go the opposite way instead of facing the front of the blackbeauty. it seems to me they were setting themseves up to be blown up'
Why did it have to be Nitroglycerin? Why cant it have been any other explosive? Shaking the stuff could explode it prematurely ... and transforming it into dynamite is easy.
You all seem to forget about the way Hollywood treated Bruce Lee. The raceism and other bullshite he was facing was why he went back to Hong Kong to make movies his way. And Van was a part of it 👏
Bruce wasn't getting offered that many roles. At the time Asian were rarely seen on tv or films. It was Bruce's idea to do the Kung Fu tv series, but they felt he was too Asian to be lead on tv. The role was given to David Carradine. He went back to Hong Kong and at the time he didn't realize The Green Hornet became a big hit on Hong Kong. they called it the Kato show. That's when he was offered to make films in Hong Kong and became international star.
This two part episode is the best in the series thus far, and pretty much proves that the show needed an hour of run time to let the stories breathe.

Watching TONY ROME with Frank Sinatra and Billy Mays scored that movie I thought I was watching the GREEN HORNET.
It great how he used on him for a confession
A reboot would need this to be an hour
I love the patent jealousy Casey is showing there at the end of the episode.

yes , yes Bruce was fast but all action has to be slowed down so the audience can see it.

Al makes that trumpet Hirt!
Chicago needs the Green Hornet and Kato now more than ever.

Imperial-land would be nicer...
Seth Tyrssen ....Only 28 episodes.
Van Williams will ALWAYS be known to me as the Green Hornet
My Grandmother had a '66 Dodge Polara.
It was the city of Desilu, where most of the outdoor scenes were shot

I love the way this episode just opens with a straight action scene, and Billy May's music is just top-notch.

SO COOL

Britt: "Nothing we can do here." Kato: "Yup."
Guess now they really are criminals
Nope that would be self defense. An armored truck trying to run through you and you stop it. With rockets yes, but you stop it!
They should have packed marshmallows...
Smoked them out
Impactful punch by Kato.
Peace
Beaufuil dreamer green hornet Bret reed it's my favorite handsome guy lots of goosebumps
One for the record book,Bruce Lee in a car chase, cooool😉

I said it before & I'll say it again Casey and Britt had some chemistry. Had there been a S2 ......hmmmmmm maybe. :)
nope, it was a show aimed at kids in 1966. No love interest for Britt.

I'm starting to get the impression Kato likes to knock out bad guys.

Driving that Kato does is excellent especially race track So Good
They could have got more than one season easy out of this show

Green Hornet: Episode 8.
Season 1. Episode 8. "Beautiful Dreamer" (Part 2).
Tuesday, January 31 - 2013.
I like this one manly it's the Black beauty vs the armored truck
At the 0:09 mark I have the same type photo of myself looking like Brent Reed.
If you listen carefully you can hear what eventually becomes the Batgirl theme..
12:20 Kato demonstrates his efficiency.
Gary Owens FTW!
William Cox When a newscaster or reporter was needed for the show, Gary Owens usually filled the role.
From beautiful downtown Burbank, nern and finork!
he playing voice real space ghost
Now this show starting to be like batman.
Both episodes should have been a movie.
The Green hornet so damn good better then Batman he he he he 🤣
They had a 1 car garage 😂
People were expecting this show to be as campy and goofy as Batman and when it wasn't ....

How couldn't anyone know that Brent Reed wasn't the Green Hornet? Like Chief O'Hara not knowing Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson weren't Batman & Robin.
Wait a minute. Are you saying that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson were Batman and Robin? How did I miss that.
It's a fantasy. Suspend your disbelief.
One of these days the bad guys will get a punch in.

Too bad superhero tv series didn't catch on in the 60s would be interesting what other characters they could've done back then.

They fried the guys in the car.
They had it coming. They were bad guys after all.
13:50 Three quarters of a million in one night? What a scam!
I wonder if Bruce Lee fight moves were as good or less than his Karate movies?
Why did it have to be Nitroglycerin? Why cant it have been any other explosive? Shaking the stuff could explode it prematurely ... and transforming it into dynamite is easy.
He watches a few people and 3/4 million in cash burn, shrugs, and says, "Nothing we can do here."
Did they at least arrest/capture Peter Eden?
yes and if you listened to the reporter he confessed to it all...
I wonder if the money in the truck was burned?
