I have been informed that “stumpfer” is too literal and I actually mean “direkt” ! Sorry about that! :)

That's very funny that the people in Baden-Würtemberg wanting you to speak german. Most of them aren't able to speak German without a very strong dialect, so the rest of the country is struggling to understand them :-).

The people in BW are very special, they are not so typical fo the rest of Germany. Have you ever been to the Rhineland? I guess not. Don’t judge a book by the cover. I doubt that all Americans are the same. But in one point you are absolutely right: People in Baden Württemberg are Not known as being too friendly, eloquent. So travel around Germany to see all the various aspects of living here. We even hug and kiss and smile when meet people. 😘

Dein deutsch ist berständlich :-) Yes, blunt means direkt in that case :-) or unverblümt if you prefer that word or tacheles. That one, they understand here as well. Great video!

I'm sorry to hear that it has been hard for you to not see your family. I know nothing can replace having a family close by, but, maybe you can just check if there are some activity clubs you can get into.

Yeah! Very eloquent. "Stumpf(er)" is not the word that fits. I suggest "direkt".

Wow, there are a lot of aspects of your situation that are a lot more challenging than I realized.
I wasn’t aware that higher education in Baden Württemberg is no longer free for foreigners. I don’t think that is the case here in Bavaria, but I’m not a reliable source of information on that front. It’s doubly unfortunate for you because not only is that an impediment to your education, but it is also depriving you an opportunity to socialize and develop your language skills. The Corona year has made it even more difficult still to interact and integrate.
Kudos for having the guts to take on a job like bar tending without language skills. With the pandemic, I can’t imagine a more challenging time to find and keep a job.
Considering everything life has thrown at you this past year, you can really be proud of how much progress you have made in developing your language skills. I find your perspective interesting about how important language is for integrating and how much you perceive that those around you expect that of you. While I absolutely agree that you should make every effort to learn the language, I think that the expectations of the local community vary greatly from place to place throughout Germany. It sounds like you are in a comparatively small community. Here in Nürnberg, people come from all over the world to study - in English - and the common language among the international students is typically English. It is even more extreme in Berlin, where I’ve heard about people having to speak English with the wait staff at pubs and restaurants.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that new opportunities will materialize for you as we - hopefully - start to finally put the pandemic behind us.

There are some exeptions for the study fees. Have you checked, if you are exempt from the fee as the wife of a German?
