I had the great privilege of seeing them in the seventys what a fantastic band still listening to them today and they still sound great thanks so much lads for the great memories 😊god bless you all from limerick ❤
I saw them in Ballycastle, County Mayo in 1979 - we organised a bus from school to go and see them. I knew my father wouldn't let me go so I lied to him. Turns out that the boys from the convent of mercy secondary school, Belmullet, were pretty much the only people who turned up. We had a great night but they deserved so much better. Talking to them afterwards - what nice guys - we were fan struck obviously.
Nice to see all the five of them still around, so close and talking about their band life with so much humor! They don't take themselves overly serious like many other musicians, and I guess they don't regard themselves as any "bigger than..." any other musician. They appear quite humble and honest to me. I'm a fan since I bought my first HORSLIPS vinyl "Dancehall Sweethearts" in Berlin, back in 1977 (when so many others stared at the "punk bands"). And with this interview, I now know at long last, what the name HORSLIPS came from - thanks for this video, longfordman !
Always a big fan from the early days but sad to say I missed seeing them when they were around. I actually think that this acoustic arrangement sounds better than the original album version.
Brilliant interview. All trying different things, not dead yet, on speaking terms, having the craic, nothing to prove. I was too young when they peaked, but I've relished their music over the last 16 years. Good to know they have a sense of humour and a life.
saw them early in toronto. they were maybe the best band live i ever saw... and i did see the beatles... but you couldn't hear a note for the screaming beatlemaniacs... but horslips were better live than you could imagine. MAGIC.
Managed to see them this last weekend at Cropredy.....don't let this clip fool you....they were stunning, at the top of their game, rocked the field and made many new converts. If you get the chance to see them live, take it with both hands. You can thank me later.....
Like a previous poster stated I also saw them supporting Nazareth in the late 70's and thought them to be a pleasant surprise. I can't get over how much Barry resembles the late William F. Buckley.
I worked in a pub in soho london around 1977. It was called *The intrepid Fox* on wardour street!. I was doing me usual sercing drinks when who walks in but horslips
@enyrb yeah your wrong thats not where they got their name from they got it from the beano there was a strip caled tin lizzie about a robot eric bell came up withthe name ... i dont know where u got ur facts from but i read the rocker wich is phil lynotts bio :)
cont. Ya could smacked me in the gob with a mackerel, Anyways I got chattin with them and took me break for an hour and had a few pints, Had a feckin great time. Funny nuff tho I think I paid for all the drinks?????
Got to admit - didn't like it either on first listening but then again these lads aren't angry young men anymore. Like how Clapton reworked an acoustic version of Layla I think this is more appropriate to who they are now. Anyway - who are we to second guess these guys musically ? That said, I'd love to see... anyone... say Fall Out Boy put this at No.1 in the US for 6 weeks and let Horslips rake in a few bob.
This band rocks this is a bad representation of them. They influenced a lot of us older guys in Scotland. By the way RTE I know a good sound engineer if you need one!
Pat Kenny needs a new researcher who knows what their talking about. Horselips bigger than Rory Gallagher!!!! catch yerself on. By the sound of the reformed Horselips they need a bit more practise and I'm so glad I gave their recent gig in the Waterfront, Belfast a miss. Money well saved. But I'll still listen to the vinyl.
Gawd the sound was atrocious! The lads were big in the folk rock genre only - should never be mentioned against the names of pop / progressive rock types like Rory or Thin Lizzy
They came to Canada years and years ago. They played the St' Lawrence Market. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
Great band, so nice to see them here, all brilliant lads
I saw them live in Belfast Odyssey Arena last night (Thurs 3rd Dec '09) & they were superb. Better than before.
i loved this album and this song is one of the greatest unknowns ever recorded.
I had the great privilege of seeing them in the seventys what a fantastic band still listening to them today and they still sound great thanks so much lads for the great memories 😊god bless you all from limerick ❤
Brilliant love johnny singing

I'm fairly certain not even my parents were old enough to see them at their peak in the 70's. Wish I was there.

pure casual pure class

I saw them in the late 70’s in Sligo and they were on the same bill with The Wolfetones. Great concert been a fan of both since.
And me. One and only time. Book of Invasions is brilliant.

Brilliant. Loved them.
I like this rendition of this song
Brilliant, saw them twice live. But let's not get carried away. They were NEVER bigger than Rory Gallagher.
Pat's introduction was a bit O.T.T.
Proud to be Irish ;)

i remember seeing this live on tv when it was on, blew me away. just how come the sound balances are so off here on youtube? i don't understand
RIP Johnny Fean.
RIP johnny fean
1st concert i ever went to in belfast
Like a previous poster stated I also saw them supporting Nazareth in the late 70's and thought them to be a pleasant surprise. I can't get over how much Barry resembles the late William F. Buckley.
RTE can never get sound right. Horselips ROCK
Good tune
I worked in a pub in soho london around 1977. It was called *The intrepid Fox* on wardour street!. I was doing me usual sercing drinks when who walks in but horslips
Horslips are the best
rockfast-perfect comment ..go on Rory:))
Absolutely dire sound
Rory was the best man!
It sounds a little odd to hear this song done this way instead of the industrial stomp of the original. Terrific anyway!
@enyrb yeah your wrong thats not where they got their name from they got it from the beano there was a strip caled tin lizzie about a robot eric bell came up withthe name ... i dont know where u got ur facts from but i read the rocker wich is phil lynotts bio :)
Shit sound . Fold back sound . That's how you much you respect them
keyboard is a bit loud
Wonder if they'll do Oprah...
And why is Johnny singing it? I thought Barry did it originally?
cont. Ya could smacked me in the gob with a mackerel, Anyways I got chattin with them and took me break for an hour and had a few pints, Had a feckin great time. Funny nuff tho I think I paid for all the drinks?????
This is the kind of Irish I wish I was.
Yip, none of this irish american crap....
to my shame whats this song about ???
@enyrb dandy and beano are the same thing arent they?? i was not incorrect about anything??

The sound was awful, but the performance wasn't non-commital... It was from the album Roll Back, they re-recorded all their stuff...
We do this all the time, lets just let bands be, and not keep painting them with the Irish thing, its not fair.
This band rocks this is a bad representation of them. They influenced a lot of us older guys in Scotland. By the way RTE I know a good sound engineer if you need one!
Sorry - but Horslips were never bigger than Rory Gallagher. Ever.
Irish>>>>Neither were bigger then Van the Man!!!!!!
Or Lizzy
fANTASTIC FIDDLE PLAYER!! GIVE HIM MORE AIR TIME! yOU'D BE CRAP WITHOUT HIM!!!
But I'll still listen to the vinyl.
yeah. crap sound. probably asking for it tho...
Don't agree they were bigger than Rory - as the presenter says.
Brilliant yes, but NOT bigger than Rory Gallagher!!!
Yes, that's debatable statement
Bigger than Rory? Putz
Yow! As some rockers grow old they turn into boring old farts, Horslips being an example.
Gawd the sound was atrocious! The lads were big in the folk rock genre only - should never be mentioned against the names of pop / progressive rock types like Rory or Thin Lizzy
Don’t be such a genre snob. They defied genre.
Horslips are pure Bollix! full stop!
Pat they were never bigger that Rory Gallagher, you need to get you facts right, Rory Gallagher, the greatest guitarist ever, enough from rubbish talk
I remember many people talking about the Horslips in Ballyliffin, never a mention of Rory.
snipper1ie Where the fuck is Ballyliffin? When Horslips have two roads in Paris named after them, let's talk.
