I know this may sound crazy but in my opinion this is the greatest vocal performance by a 9 year old child in the history of music. I will continue to hold that opinion until someone shows me a better one. I am not just talking about the technical aspects of singing. When you consider the style she used, the depth of her voice at times, the various vocal techniques she used, her involvement in the arrangement, the soul and emotion she conveyed, etc, I don’t think anyone at 9 years old has ever come close to this.

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind the world that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

I agree with the other commentators… Angelina Jordan is a musical genius the likes of which our world has never seen. She is the ONLY person that moves me to tears virtually every time I hear her sing. She is a phenomenal talent, well beyond her years. I have to listen to this song at least once everyday. When I say, “Alexa,” she responds by saying… “Hello Tim, let my guess… Angelina Jordan again?”
Angelina is 9, Screamin' Jay Hawkins passed away at the age of 70 in 2000, just outside of Paris. He sang this song in 1956 at the age of 44.

Ok..she was 9, the candle was 'Screaming Jay Hawkins" the original singer (so extremely relevant to her performance,) and she's reading the lyrics..not in her native language☺️.. everything she ever does shouldn't be but it is..it's freakin' awesome...

I have known Angelina since she was two years old. Yes, Norwegian (Bokmal) is her native language but so essentially is English. She has spoken both literally from the time she could speak. There was no learning curve for her in speaking English. She learned English and her native Norwegian at the same time. This is why she has no dialect when speaking English. When she was a tiny girl everyone spoke both languages with her. When I was visiting even when she was four and five years old we would talk together in English and Norwegian. People assume she had to learn English later on. This is not true. So, when she was tiny singing in English she knew what she was singing in any song. I will also tell you something most of you fans probably do not know. I have sat with her listening to jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington when she was very young (4, 5, and 6 years of age) and we would listen to a song together three or four times and after that she knew the song completely having memorized all the lyrics, all the tune after just those few times we listened to it. Then she would sing the song back to me word for word, note for note, perfectly. Another thing is that voice she has now at 15 was already there when she was very young. Of course over the years she has matured, is still maturing, vocally but the range, vibrato, the Jazz inflections, everything was already there just waiting for time and good vocal coaching to bring it out as she grew. Further you must know she is the most kind hearted, loving, and empathetic human being I have ever known. Her family protect her to the utmost. She goes nowhere without they are with her. She enters no room without one of them along watching out for her. She will not be one of those young people who are ruined by the bad elements in the music industry. I know there is no ceiling to her talent. She will go down in the history of music as one of the finest singers who ever lived. I consider myself so lucky and blessed to know her. There is not a sweeter, dearer soul in this world. Lastly I will tell you that i remember sitting in a living room as she sang one jazz song or another when she was about six years old and even then her voice could go from the most breathy, delicate whisper to perfectly controlled volume so that the windows behind the sofa I was sitting on vibrated in their frames. Thank you for being a fan. She truly loves her fan base. There is so much more she will show you in the years to come. Plans are already underway to launch her career to the highest heights while her family sees to it that she lives as normal a life as possible along the way. I don’t get to see her as much as I used to but we talk regularly as she checks up on me to see how I am doing and to let me know what’s coming up next. This is one of the best reactions to her doing this song that I've seen. You actually paid enough attention to it to know you had to see it again to more fully absorb the performance to make sense of it. It is an iconic visual, musical, and vocal experience she has left us for history. Unbelievable.
My Man, you are about 150 covers behind Her Fans, you need catch up! Your reaction of disbelief of Angelina Jordan vocal range is not unusual . Just about every reactor could not believe this mature sound is coming out of this little 9 yrs old girl ? I recommend you go back went she was 7 yrs old, the first time the world was introduce to her on "Norway Has Talent" Show back in 2014. Her stage performance was unbelievable singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of "Billie Holiday". She won the hearts of the Judges along with the world and she also won contest !

To really understand the genius of this performance, you have to see the original that she's honouring. Screamin' Jay was a blues madman (that's him on the candle with the bone through his nose). Somehow, this little 9-year old girl found this song, found the music in it, and then spat it out and said "There, I fixed it for you." This isn't just a vocal tour-de-force (which it is) it is a work of near-genius.. This is one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard - and I've heard plenty. 😎

Yep Angelina is a virtuoso child prodigy without question. Believe she was @ 9 yo at the time of this recording and I think 15 yo now. She was @ 7 yo when she won the Voice of Norway contest (Forgive me...Norway's Got Talent.) She makes me give strong consideration to the validity of reincarnation as she must be an old soul. How does someone so young connect and perform an old jazz song like this? Unbelievable. I know u are currently exploring Dimash and Angelina but let me know when u are ready for additional crazy good artists to look at. This is her total rearrangement of this this classic song with a next-level performance by a 9 yo girl. You have to hear the 1956 original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, to see how she improved this song. She does all her own arrangements back to when she was 7 or 8 & that is one of her most amazing genius skills. Even if she didn't sing at all, she would be highly sought after by many superstar vocalists to help arrange their songs. Now she just does covers of their songs & is known as the" Song-Righter."

Gee G, when there are no words to describe a performance like this - well, it is literally beyond words. Normally, she does her recordings in 1 take - sometimes 2 but if you'll notice, this was filmed in 2 locations and she is using 2 different mikes to do it; In the beginning you'll notice the band director going over some changes and sort of gives a small smile when he reads those changes. Angelina made those changes herself and she is known to create all of the arrangements herself or at the very least has direct and substantial collaboration in the process. IMO, we will probably not see one such as her again in our lifetime. She says that she taught herself to sing from listening to albums of her favorite artists. Well, say what you want but no one could do what she does without some strong connections with a higher power. She alludes to this in a couple of interviews where she makes reference to an alternate states of mind when she performs. She is a gift and I appreciate that the Universe/God saw fit to bless us with her presence.

I consider her a songrighter. Most versions of this song by the songwriter Jay Hawkins are a few decades after his 1956 recording, and he resorted to cartoonish lampoon as his 'one hit wonder' version. Angelina's HAS to be much more like he wrote it, on piano, back then. His original recording is infamously pegged as "at the end of a long, drunken day" and isn't very smooth or clear. Angelina's has that smooth, almost rapier-like quality piercing thru everything with precise cuts and parries. By the way, this is easily my favorite vocal performance. Ever. I found a hundred other examples where she's delivering such grand performances, too, as if she's channeling so many other artists so appropriately.
She has, I believe, 6 of her own songs, the latest being 'Million Miles'.
You need to go back 3 years to when she was 6, and her first time in a studio, and listen to her version of "I Who Have Nothing" originally sang by Shirley Bassey and later by by Tom Jones. I am going to leave you 2 links. The first is an enhanced version that has the exchange at the end translated and on screen. (She is Norwegian) If you decide to listen to the original posting, be sure to turn on the closed caption so you can understand what is being said. She is a true prodigy. She chooses and arranges all her songs, she speaks 4 languages, plays 4 instruments, won Norway's Got Talent at 8, wrote a book at 9 about why she always sings barefoot in public, becoming Norway's youngest published author, sang for the Nobel Peace Prize recipients at 10, personally invited to sing for Quincy Jones's 85 birthday at 12 (he said she was the best child singer he'd heard since Michael Jackson). You were right in comparing her voice and delivery to some of the great singers. But since you’re new to Angelina, what you don’t know is that she will give you this same degree of authenticity and originality across many genres. To give you an idea of how perfectly Angelina can match her voice and performance to a genre, watch her at 11 (she’s 9 here, by the way) singing Cole Porter’s “Every Time We Say Goodbye”. It’s a complete opposite of what you just heard, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Then maybe her recent cover of Billie Jean to see her musicality and fearlessness in stepping outside the lines.

A lot of people always say that shouldn't be coming from someone so young. But I'm going to say what most people won't say that is a GOD given gift that she sangs with.

She covered Shirley Bassey "DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER"Proysenfestivalen 21.07.2017 at 11 years old. She was 13 when she performed "Bohemian Rhapsody". Will turn 16 on January 10, 2022. I believe her first live on stage performance after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old is "WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES" with a great band and back up singers to a large outdoor audience. Angelina is very thoughtful and very humbled. The reason of no socks or shoes is she vowed to a poor homeless girl she met during a holiday in the Middle East. Angelina gave her the shoes rt from her feet and gave them to the girl. Angelina has done many charity events to give Children Shoes
She vowed to do this until All The Children in the World has Shoes. She pays Homage to so many of Long Past and once you fall into her trance you've fallen into the Rabbit Hole. what you were watching... screamin' jay hawkins wrote and first performed that song in 1955. the black and white with the sound of an 8mm projector running in the background represents the time period and in the beginning, she displays a picture of screamin' jay. as i'm sure you know by now angelina way 9 yrs and 2 months old when she did this performance and every detail from start to finish was her. angelina has done many covers, my advice to her would be to stop with all of the covers, they dilute her uniqueness in the marketplace so make the fans wait with excitement for her next release to keep it fresh.

Take a look at her Norways Got Talent sequence. There are 4 covers during this event. These songs are short enough to play through due to the time restraints for the show (just as Bohemian Rhapsody was for American Got Talent).
Her audition song is Billie Holiday cover of Gloomy Sunday, age 7. The second song is another Holiday cover called I'm A Fool To Want You, age 7. I am so happy I subscribe to you. You really DO get it. This girls singing, on video at 1 1/2 years old, is an anomaly! Many believe she is going to be one of the greatest vocalist in history. This was performed at 9 years old. 🌺

I would say that this is without a doubt the most epic jazz performance by a nine-year-old ever, bar none, and I might go so far to call it one of the greatest jazz performances by a female vocalist of any age. When you said you don't want to bother with the original, I get that. Angelina's covers are almost always better than the original, and that includes Adele, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, or Billie Holiday.
Yes, it is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Yeah listen to that lil doll, just nine years old. Its her homage to the 1950ies Jazz classic by Screaming Jay Hawkins (that guy on the candle she showed at the beginning). Yes, you'll be hardpressed to find anything remotely similar by any other 9 year old.
It's her last performance that still let you hear a bit of the kid. Everything after that quickly got to a level many known names never reach in their life time.
She will turn 16 next january.

... and as you cannot react on Angelina exclusively (why not?), here another really outstanding (not just "good", but really outstanding as this one...) performance and artist I discovered recently: MISIA sings "Ashitae" on THE FIRST TAKE - insane! Never seen such an emotional and powerful performance, she sings her heart and soul out, and at the highest possible level of vocal artistry! Misia wrote this song in 2011 to support people and give hope after the terrible east Japan eartquake, now she rerecorded it in a one take live performance in regard of Covid... never have heard that much despair and at the same time strong will to carry on and help others who are affected even worse... in the end she gives us a 25 sec. belt which is a cry and a prayer and the most heartbreaking thing I've ever witnessed in music! Don't miss this! (Ashitae means "To Tomorrow"...) ((only thing I could compare this to emotionally is Lara Fabian singing "Je suis malade", in case you know that one...))

Hah, love watching reactors trying to guess her age in this one. You weren't close but she is 9 years old...just turned 9 BTW. And yes, this is totally real, raw vocals and this little 9 year old arranged this too. If you continue on you shall soon find out she is a music genius/prodigy who won Norway Got Talent at the age of 7-8 over all the adults in the competition.
