I remember this crossing in the 1970s, had the old swing gates, and the signal box was where the Crossing sign is. The Signaller would come out the door and wave at us. Nice memories and long gone.
My local crossing! Must say a fair bit has changed since then (I was still in school for one, albeit the week prior I had actually finished as my GCSEs had finished lol. The alarm has been altered (it had been the same since I was a little lad, it changed during the pandemic), and the barrier on the far side (southeasternmost) is now half broken after the amount of times it has smashed into the road as it lowers. Two unique things I will say about this one. First, on both sides grey camera boxes can be found, this is because Sawbo crossing has among the highest rates for running the lights in the country (can't find the source I'm afraid), often the gates will be down for four or more trains, despite it being a two track line. Second, the county border is actually on the road itself, so a load of potholes surround the current road, as three parties now claim it is the others responisbility (Herts & Essex love to argue who should repair what road in this area, I'm sure many a local can second me there). Lovely video as ever, be sure to say hi if ever in town 😁
Thank you :) I've been to this crossing quite a few times since its a great filming spot. Quite a well-known crossing too with its recognizable design and alarm sounds. Never knew about the border situation. Counties arguing over repairs is nothing new lol.
Very nice crossing. Took ages for first train to come! got another train straight after that was cool. Fab catches. ❤😊👍
