We both blame ourselves for the things that we fall short of, we put ourselves under pressure. He tried to capture that sentiment of self-doubt and guilt into this song."
What the song is about. There are 2 interpretations: 1) It's about Jimins struggels with self doubt as an artist 2) It's related to Wings concept and book "Demian" that was an inspiration for it. In the first chapters we meet main character Emil Sinclair young boy. He told a lie about stealing apples (we see Jimin with apples in short movie and concept photos for Wings) to impress his friends but in consequence he've got blackmailed by one of them. He had to tell more lies, steal etc. The lie became bigger and bigger to the point the "weight" of it made him physically sick. That's why Jimin sings that the lie will swallow him up and begs to be brought back to innocence. I personally like second explanation. I recomend you read "Demian" by H. Hesse. It's not long and it helps immensely with understanding Wings era.
This era of solos were personal songs, they just all kinda related to their characters as well. Example of Jungkook's song "Begin" was about the members and RM and JK said that's what it was about when they were writing it, V's song "Singularity" was to his younger siblings. It goes to their way of double meaning in many of their songs.

You said that Lie was a bit darker, and that is correct. Lie is from BTS' Wings album which has a darker and more ominous theme. As to what the song itself means, you'd have to do some research on the various theories, but most of BTS' songs and MVs are connected making a very intricate storyline so it may be a bit difficult to perfectly understand the song just by itself.

This song has two meanings to me. According to the mv he is in a mental hospital. Which the lyrics are so relatable when you have these dark feelings of depression. You want to "snap out of it" but you just can't. You know it's not the "real" you and you fight to get back to who you really are. This whole album (Wings) is a bit darker. In both sound and lyrics. There's still a couple happy songs but just a super epic and dark album. Also the first album they all had solos. Ironically it's even darker than their album "Dark and Wild" 😜😜
