Slow the Rate of Charge on the 14500 to .200ma and make sure stop voltage is at 4.2V Getting reports that is overcharging the included battery, and charging it too fast.
yeah make a 10kHz version for the regions that use it. xhdata does this wit one of their really small portables so the feature appeals to people from all over that world
Hej Todderbert thanks for the review the Prunus J-167 pocket radio looks very nice and i have ordered this radio like that is have shortwave and also very nice that this pocket radio have a rechargeable battery. So yes it seams to be a very nice radio take care Todderbert and have a nice day.
DSP chips are amazing. Back in true analog days, there is no way that radio would have any kind of SW selectivity along with drift, but today, it's workable. It's no DX machine but if you are into American domestics on SW or the Cubans, this will work.
If this were 10k, it would be an instant buy for me. As it stands, i do like the battery, buti have others on my wish list ahead of this that are 10k for the USA.
Howdy Todd, Another neat Prunus radio. The speaker didn't sound too bad to me but then again I heard it through my TV speakers, so not the best fidelity. Too bad about the 9k stepping, must be a radio for folks on the other side of the world. It's nice that it has that removable 14500 battery and shortwave too. The only thing I listen to on shortwave is "The Report of the Week." I wish there was better programing on shortwave but I guess it's a sign of the times. Take care, Steve.
Yes in like flynn. Wow. You do make me laughPrunus . Cheap radios that work.I have several now and they all work well for the money. Thank you Ron Z.WA 3090SWL.
Hi todderbert - is there a cheap but cheerful equivalent that uses 18650's? I have tons of good quality high mah 18650 cells and am looking for a no frills radio for personal use.
XHDATA D328 or D901 are good cheap 18650s, though the D109 is great if you do want some frills. Oh, and the Semier SM-818. AM is bad on that, SW is bad on the 328, dunno about the 901. FM is fine on all.
Todderbert, is this a new radio by Prunus since it is labelled the J-167 as Prunus has a previous J-166? Nice radio with a battery (14500) type that you like! P.S. A better speaker & 10 step tuning are 2 upgrades that would be nice as you stated...
The Sihuadon R-108 would be my top choice. If you need to get one super cheap, you may find classic Jetstream Radios on eBay, but they are not as good as the digital R-108.
In addition to the 10k stepping... having a battery door that wasn't screwed in would be better. I understand that the idea is that it is rechargeable and there isn't a huge need to continually open the battery compartment. On the other hand, it's a hassle to get out the screwdriver to change the battery. Just a thought...
You may want to take the 14500 out to charge separately. The USB charger in this radio is a diode and resistor set to 4.3V (too high). If you do use it, don’t leave it plugged in for a long time. Some units were mistakenly built for 4.7V. If you measure more than 4.3 on the battery, just don’t use the USB port at all.
I found with playing with the Jazmin clone of this radio that the d-220 is a much better receiver of AM and SW signals. I get about the same results with FM.
AGAIN --- You're really going to enjoy this: "The Choyong LC90 AM/FM/SW/IN Radio. THE PERFECT RADIO DOES EXIST!" NOTE: SORRY, Todd - I was _really_ tired that day ~ THIS is what I was referring to! P.S.: I refrained from posting the direct YT link because I don't want to 'spam' your profile.
@@todderbert Well for the price, I'll get one of these and have a look inside. Looks like it should come apart pretty easily. I'll let ya know if it's moddable.
How much is this radio 📻. It looks like 👍 one of your best. Can it be bought at any electronics store 🏬? This radio is very well worth the red curtain show. Does this radio only receive local stations 🚉, or is it a station magnet 🧲? Your friend, Jeff.
This is really interesting, while 9khz tuning doesn’t impact USA users as much, a radio with 10k stepping misses A LOT of 9k stations everywhere else in the world 🌎

The Prunus people are really making a name for themselves, bringing us low-cost radios at relatively high quality.
Prunus [ and Retekess] do quite well with quality.
📻🙂
Agreed, loving my Prunus radios!!

Interestingly I have just received here in UK a Primus J-167 with 520 to 1730 coverage on AM

The Clooblut Rd207 is a good one. One 18650 battery. Todderbert has a review of it.

I have what appears to be the same radio under the Baijiali name. I love it.

thank you for your honest review, which radio would you recommend that would also have an airband?

Thank you for the info, going to test mine out.
9 Khz and 10 khz indicates band coverage on mw (522-1611 khz or 520-1710 khz respectively).
How is it compared to Sangean SR-35?
Can you please compare this with the XHDATA D-220..?
I found with playing with the Jazmin clone of this radio that the d-220 is a much better receiver of AM and SW signals. I get about the same results with FM.

I've been trying to get one for review.
The sound is not bad at all.
I wonder if it’s amenable to a resistor change. That would have been a huge headache on the 219, but this only has 3 band selector positions
I always ask, but I think they brand their name on it, and resell. XHDATA seems to do everything in house.

the chip has a “universal “ mode that hits both. 9kHz is 3-5kHz off on a lot of USA stations
I’d get in a heartbeat except for the 9kHz.

Have you ever opened the Iron Man deck of cards? It looks pristine new to me. :)
Not yet :)
Please try the new Iron Man pack of Self-Shuffling cards, for April 1 st 👍
will a alkaline aa work?
No. Alkaline batteries are 1.5v, the lithium-ion cell is 3.7v
