No, Mark, you're from an age that had the best of everything. I'm 45 years old.
I find it so telling, The Incredible Hulk series, is nearly 50 years old and yet. has an emotionally connection and realism, today's modern MCU has only rarely come close to.
Jack Colvin is often overlooked but, a lead actor or actress, is ONLY as good as their co stars. And he had the same untouchable class Bixby had which is irreplacable.
If Bixby and Lou represented the duality of Banner and the Hulk.
McGee represented the every day person.
I believe this show would work even now. McGee's character could be updated to be a Coast to Coast presenter or a journalist for alternative media outlet?
It would be the same idea of McGee chasing the Hulk/Banner, just the technology used to report it, would be changed. A part from that - it would be much the same.
And, yes Lou would be the Hulk except shown with CGI. Or a mixture of old fashioned effects and CGI.
But, nothing can or will replace this masterclass.
      David

Jack Colvin was a great actor... Mcgee wasn't an easy part to play, but he played it really well and almost caught Banner/ the Hulk on a few occasions. Colvin was a strong actor who gave depth to the part of mcgee. But It would have been great if there had been a final confrontation between Banner and MCGee where McGee finds out Banner is the Hulk. 😮

@elizabethgalligan1805 - I agree with you and I also felt the same way about a lack of resolution involving the final moment(s) between "Jack McGee" and "David Banner/The Hulk" in the final TV movie of "The Death of The Incredible Hulk" as well. After all, I believe that actor Jack Colvin was on the verge of dying and was unavailable, unfortunately, for the final TV movie anyway. IF you need to know about what happened to Jack Colvin, among other things, try looking him up on Wikipedia at some point.

It was interesting to see the way McGee's character had changed throughout the series. At first McGee seemed like an over eager zealot (almost evil in hunting for Banner and the Hulk) then he starts to become more sympathetic and understanding of both Banner and the Hulk. Of course, he still remained obsessed with finding them.

    • @MarkJohnson-xm6hy

    • @John-ct9zs
      @John-ct9zs 4 месяца назад +1

He seemed to grow a little more sympathetic, he saved the Hulk/Banner once from the mercenary that wanted to kill him, though I wonder if that bazooka would have killed the Hulk, even the TV Hulk of 1981. But ultimately, even during the last year of the series, McGee made it very clear he wanted to capture John/the Hulk to get out of the National Register, get a more respectable column back, and he really didn't care what happened to John/Hulk after that. So even the last year, McGee was still a douchebag, just a douchebag with an occasional conscious/heart.

He may have been a thorn in David's side but he was a good antagonist, a bit more interesting than General Ross imo.
I really wish Jack got to find out who the Hulk was in Death of the Incredible Hulk, it would've been a great way for Jack to get closure. apparently Jack Colvin had a stroke sometime after the Hulk Returns and taught acting classes until his death in 2005.

Years ago, there was an apparent final script floating around on the internet purporting to be from the final hulk episode that never got filmed. Kenneth Johnson said he wanted to do a grand finale where McGee catches Banner and Banner finds peace from that giant green yak wig. Unfortunately the studio nitwits pulled the show of the air before it could happen (even though ratings were still good). Jack Colvin had health issues I think after "The Return of the Hulk" and of course Bill Bixby passed before anything more could be done. There is only Ferrigno left now. The apparent script floating around, if real, mentioned about David getting caught up in a Mafia issue with McGee, once McGee finds out its Banner, he realises how he has ruined Banners life and helps him. Theres was even a complete reveal in Court - with David Banner finally being cured at the end. Maybe once AI gets better, Elon Musk can create the final using his Richard Pryors Superman III Super AI Computer.

McGee had spent about a week with John Doe, he could tell John was man in his 30s or 40s with brown hair and a youthful voice, not a much older man in his 70s, 80s or whatever. Dell was at least late 60s at the youngest. Plus look at Dell's flimsy creature, he has height and that's it. McGee could easily recognize this wasn't HIS well built Hulk.

It's sad that the show didn't have a proper finale to the Jack vs. David storyline, either in the series or the later TV movies; unfortunately Jack Colvin's health forced him to retire after the second TV movie. Each episode inevitably ends with Banner back on the road, fearful that the Hulk's appearances will bring unwanted scrutiny from the authorities and the ever-persistent Jack McGee (Jack Colvin), who became obsessively pursuing the mysterious creature across the country, both to prevent further violence and to bring legitimacy to his story.

This is absolutely my favorite TV Show. I still enjoy these clips today, thanks to RUclips and Facebook.
    I just realized something though--
McGee always claims the Hulk killed two people, despite all the good things he's witnessed the Hulk do. He later learned the Hulk is actually a man who transforms, but doesn't know who. I understand why Banner's instinct is avoid McGee and the police until he had cure/control the Hulk, BUT...
McGee and Banner are outside the lab when Banner says the classic "Don't Make Me Angry!" Then the lab explodes with Elaina Marks trapped inside. So if Banner simply confesses he's the Hulk, if would establish he was OUTSIDE the lab and NOT the Hulk when the explosion hit. The Hulk certainly didn't kill Banner, and the Hulk didn't cause the explosion. So even if they took Banner to Court, those two facts would protect him!

Even though this show had some corny moments. The actors really played these characters spot on. You felt for Mr McGee because all he wanted to do is prove he wasn't crazy.
He had a desperation to expose the Hulk because he was so tired of being looked at as a loser. I dont think they will ever make a Hulk movie with this type of depth.

I love how everyone in this series called the Hulk a "creature" while he just looked like a very tall, muscular male bodybuilder albeit with green skin. Of course this was back in the late 70s, early 80s when very muscular male bodybuilders were not very common.

Did reporters in the 1970s always do field work in a suit and tie? Yes modern TV reporters still do anchor desk work for TV in a suit and tie, but actual field work? Plus, McGee worked for a tabloid newspaper, not even a legit respectable paper. Banner actually dresses like a normal person for the 1970s here when he's still "Dr. Banner" at the Culver Institute and not a homeless wanderer. So does Dr. Elaina Marks, they both dress casual. He's in a denim shirt, jeans and sneakers, not in a funny lab coat all the time. If this was made in the 1950s, you can bet Banner would be in a suit, tie, fedora hat, or a lab coat. But McGee is always, always in a suit and tie. This is one area where I felt the show could have tried to be more realistic, but I don't know. Maybe even junk tabloid reporters in the 1970s always did field work in a suit, tie and dress shoes? When I see archival TV footage of reporters "on the scene" from the 70s, they are usually dressed quite proper, today that's usually only reserved for anchor desk work, not field reporters. I know it gave McGee an air of credibility and seriousness, but who the hell wants to walk around in a suit and tie all day chasing the Hulk?
