I havenot tried any arpg games. Pls tell me , which one to try out first - the last epoch, path of exile, wolcen , grim dawn ? I heard people complaining about wolcen, bit buggy. My question is how is wolcen as of lets say april 2023. Since march is almost over.
@@lordgallo4213 I enjoy Grim Dawn and the Devs are still supporting it, which is cool. However, it shows its age and the map design is super annoying to me as they are all like mazes(very few open areas and lots of dead ends even outdoors) and that got old kind of fast. If you can grab it on sale you can get the base game and 2 DLCs pretty cheap though if you decide to give it a shot.
10:19 Want to mention that this is something the devs know about and do plan to address. From what they've said they've had to keep mob density low for performance reasons, but since they've optimised the game more they have mentioned that they will be increasing mob density and probably tweaking drops to keep drop rates about where they are now. It also doesn't ramp up as you get further into endgame, pushing corruption basically just makes the existing mobs stronger rather than adding more mobs. EDIT: Also, fun fact, _technically_ you get access to monoliths _long_ before the final boss: you can actually enter them the first time you enter the end of time when you go to select your mastery/subclass, by interacting with the monolith gate. The first monolith is level 58 so obviously you can't do it on a fresh level 20-25 character, but with some leveling, crafting and gear farming, some people have started monoliths in their 30-40's.
Good to know that they want to increase mob density when they can! And as for the access to monoliths, yeah, I know you "can" start them way sooner, but probably most people will wanna wait until they hit a wall in the story first. It does sound like a nice way to level for people that have already leveled other chars first!
To be fair to the story, it's actually pretty cool story if you take the time. The nature of hopping back and forth in time really has a big impact, and worth reading if you want to read it. you essentially start at the end of time, where humanity and their existence is literally on the verge of collapse. the remaining of humanity is holding up in a cavern system. you get to go back and forth in time, finding out who started the whole demise of humanity, going back further to stop it, etc. There are even quests that require you to go to a different time to unlock the quest or get the quest items and such. Finally you have events that put you back in really really early time, fighting magical dinosaurs and all. They really play into the time travel thing well, in a very interesting world design. It's sad if you skip it, but I totally get why people do it.
Most people who skip stories in game justify this by saying that it's not interesting...all the while skipping the dialogues and cutscenes. It might not be the most interesting part of the game, but it seems pretty half-assed to play a game and not be intrigued by what is going on.
I do wish there was a bit more character customization in this game. I get it ill usually be looking at the armor but I'm a sucker for it. At least let me pick Male or Female for each class
I think they said it currently was not a priority because they’d have to remodel a lot of armor in order to fit to the character. And as you may have noticed a lot of armor looks similar to each other. I’m guessing they’re putting armor/cosmetics to the side while they work on the mechanics
I’m going to echo a lot of the sentiment expressed in other comments here. This was a very thorough review keeping an eye out on how each type of player might experience the different aspects of the game. I particularly like how you’ve made mention of that last campaign boss difficulty spike. I ran into it and it was in such a stark contrast to all previous enemies/bosses that it forced me to stop playing out of frustration as my build that was fine up to that point, suddenly seemed null and void. And I also thought I had to finish the campaign before looking at the end game content (but from your review, it doesn’t seem to be the case). I also particularly appreciate you having a section on the music. For me the music definitely is essential to the atmosphere and immersion in a game (even if it’s only in the main menu like in Grim Dawn). It’s unfortunate that so many reviews nowadays don’t cover that aspect, even outside of the ARPG genre… Great job on the review.
Started playing PoE a week ago and stumbled across some of your vids and feels like I've found a real diamond in the rough. Your vids are so good and I look forward to watching your channel rise to become an ARPG RUclips POWERHOUSE.
this was a very useful review homie thanks, you're very thorough and really focused on the player experience side of things which is really useful! you also seem very fair about your own personal biases which is nice too! great content all in all. i'm gonna get this game i think, i'm sorta jonesing for something after the D4 beta!
Thanks homes, I tried not to forget anything important to me or that may be important to others, though I probably missed out on something.. Hope you enjoy the game if you do pick it up!
One of the most jarring issue I have is consistency and wording. A lot of passives just aren't working as worded and some interactions don't make sense at all. This makes build planning feels like a big waste of time because we wouldn't know if anything is supposed to work until we actually get an access to it. For example, "mana used gain as ward" doesn't work with trigger/proc skills even though they use mana. Or like how "Wandering Spirit" is a DoT spell but somehow it needs to collide with mob and has no duration.
I just started playing LE and it's a pretty decent ARPG. Simpler than PoE, more complex than Diablo. Needs some polishing, but for a beta, it's pretty good.
I love the game so far. Haven't been feeling ARPGs past 5 years or so but haven't been able to put this down since I bought it--even losing some weight haha. Great to play while watching something in second monitor. PoE is the best diablo-ARPG ever made imo, but I just don't care enough about ARPGs right now to deal with the intricacy and complication. (Diablo 3 is too bland for me, other than a fun casual playthrough when released.) Grim Dawn didn't click for me, I don't like just spamming one skill over and over. Last Epoch lets you put 20 points into 5 skills of your choosing, which you can synergize and have fun with. Don't need a build guide. And if you wanna try another build, just takes a few minutes to get 5 skills fully upgraded again. The loot, upgrading, crafting, etc. is pretty perfect for me at the moment. Definitely worth having this in your library.
Hi, I haven't tracked the evolution of the game but it might be cool to make a 6 months later review. If you consider it's worth it of course. Let us know. Take care.
I forgot. I care a lot about music. In fact, we should do a video about the games that scored the best when it comes to music. I'll start with an easy one: Diablo 1...
Great Video Man! I think the best thing about Last Epoch is the ease of play. Every night after work or doing normal life when I come home and want to play a game that's engaging but not stressful, I choose between PoE or Last Epoch. Last Epoch wins most nights because its so much easier to just jump in and feel like you are accomplishing something. Obviously this is because I am still learning PoE and I can't function in that game without 10 guides open in my browser and PoB guiding taking control of the left side of my brain. With Last Epoch things just feel a bit more attainable because I dont need to study in order to play. But like I said in my LE video last year. I think they are just very different experiences. Last Epoch is built to be an easier, more attainable game (For now) while PoE is built for the character builders and theory crafters and the satisfaction of seeing your hard work pay off. Once I hit 2000 hours in PoE and can finally kill an Uber Boss, then maybe I'll choose PoE over Last Epoch for a chill game ;}
It really is so easy to hop in just for a few minutes, bang out a couple monoliths and hop out if you've got other stuff to take care of. Really relaxing, while still allowing for build creativity and fun progression. I'm looking forward to trying out the other classes to see how they play, while also making use of some of the uniques I've found so far! It's a really fun experience. And yeah, as you say, both games are very different experiences, and that's okay. I'm just saying that I'm glad Last Epoch exists!
I want to do the same (come back home after work and just relax and play a game), but I can’t really settle on a game. I kinda like D4 and while waiting for the official release, I’m so torn right between a bunch of games: PoE, D3, D2R, Last Epoch, WoW, and New World.
i think this game is getting a lot of attention after the disappointingly shallow feel of d4 beta. i never really had this on my radar until people compared the skill trees of both games and this has me intrigued.
@@StealingWinter bought LE last night and so glad i did. still could use the polish that we're used to from blizz but obviously they have a huge budget.
I don't want to spoilt it, but it's not a bad story overall, although most sidecharacters just come and go, making little sense. But if you pay attention to the names in different timelines, you do meet the same main characters in different ways (good and evil). Sadly the end of the story doesn't really exist, and you don't really know how and when they became what they became, so it's mostly in your head (if you want to create the story yourself)
Needs polish and development but it's got a great foundation. The crafting system and itemization is one the best in the genre. Hopefully the devs build upon what they have over the coming months and years to make a truly great arpg. Multiplayer needs work.
This game and Diablo IV started development at the same time. This was a team of just a few redditors to start, blizz is a massive studio. This game has far better character development, skill trees, gear, and just overall love and attention that D4. I'll be playing both because I love all aRPG's but... damn. This is impressive.
purples can roll with t6 or t7 affixes - it's not t6 only and you can use purples with uniques to play slot machine at the end of a dungeon for a chance to move a random number of affixes equal to the value of legendary potential that the unique item has. can get some really funky items this way
I put about 220 hrs into this game in 2020. I absolutely loved it. It's been a while and so much has changed and been added. I think it's time to go back and start playing again, especially now that multiplayer has been implemented.
I've come back to it after I put in like 100 hours in last year.... I am having a lot of fun especially with multiplayer. There are a few bugs in multiplayer but its tolerable most of the time.
Can relate to a lot of what you've said here. I just picked up this game recently (only have a lvl 40 necro) and found myself skipping all the dialogue except for the main quest givers who are voice acted. The story is actually way more like Divinity Original Sin 2 with the end of time and the void etc. it actually almost seems like a mashup of that, Chrono Trigger and some Final Fantasy game with the crystals and the time travel etc.
Take into consideration that on Last Epoch you do not loose Experience on death like you do on POE... so it is perfectly acceptable that you have to restart the entire map/boss or whichever instance if you die.
Hi Schwingy! first of all, thank you for covering Last Epoch. It's really helpful for me to have someone as informative as you to explain what Last Epoch is all about. Definitely gonna try this later on.. Generally, I really love your videos about PoE. For me, PoE is super fun to play, but more fun for me to watch other people play it, especially you. The skill tree looks rather kinda intimidating and complicated for newbie like me. And recently I stumbled upon a retro ARPG called Titan Quest. It's an old one. I really want to hear your opinion about that game, and maybe some of your subscribers share the same interest as me. Tnank you Schwingy, and have a good day ahead!
Hi there Ramad, first of all, thanks for enjoying my vids! I'm gonna put titan quest on my list here since I've always been somewhat curious about it but never tried it out! Hopefully I will get around to it some day!
@@SchwingyGaming FWIW, a few of the people who worked on TQ went on to develop Grim Dawn, which is a fun game in its own right. If you played TQ at all, you'll instantly recognize the same skill tree mechanism in GD.
@@madDdog67 Yeah, I have played grim dawn before, and have since made a titan quest video with my thoughts that can check out if you wanna! The skill tree system was indeed identical. :P
Glad you liked it. The story has since been developed a bit more than it was at the time of making this video a year ago, but I think my opinion on it hasn't really changed. For what it's worth, there isn't THAT much dialogue and I was able to listen and pay attention to it in a recent playthrough, and it was a serviceable story. Does the trick.
What an excellent review. You really echoed that thoughts I had before even watching your video (with 45 hours of game time). I really resonate with your comment on it needing more "cooler, snappier animations with crisp booming sound effects". If they can get this tuned and perfected then it gets A+ in my book. I can't say much about multiplayer and it's bugs since I've only played in single player but I feel like this game has far exceeded my expectations and I'm very excited to see how the game develops till 1.0 and beyond
So couple questions. Stat allocation- do we get to put our own points into vitality, strength etc? The items- are there the same uniques but a higher level of the same thing? Smart loot- please god no, is there smart loot?
I believe the answer to all 3 questions is no, but there are nodes on the passive trees that are simple stat boosts if that's what you're looking for. It isn't like D2 for example where every level you get points to put specifically towards generic stats.
Despite it not being an ARPG, Lost Ark has a very good soundtrack! Kakul-Saydon, Freedom Isle, Brelshaza….and the Feiton Inn theme. That‘s insanely amazing! The video made me question if its worth giving Last Epoch a run until Diablo4 comes out. I‘ve looked into some end game builds for different classes and its weird that they all look the same. Lightning seems to be META? Dunno maybe I‘m not informed enough. Great video tho, I would‘ve subbed if POE was in my interest!
I appreciate this review. I was kinda almost all-in until I watched the boss part. I HATE bosses in games. ESPECIALLY beefy ones. So I will probably wait.
14:40 Very, very wrong. One dungeon is how you craft the strongest items in the game, legendaries (combining an exalted+unique item.) One dungeon is a gold sink with huge reward payouts and the other has a gambler NPC that trades dungeon specific items for boosted odds at really good gear. They aren't distractions, they're actually rather important to your end game progression.
Fantastic video! I've enjoyed my time with LE and I'll continue playing it as my secondary ARPG. If you want to check out another game, I'd recommend taking a look at Chronicon.
Chronicon is pretty cool, I may give it another go in the future. I've tried getting into it on a few occasions and so far I've never been able to stick around long enough to finish the campaign. Maybe I just need to find a build that feels right and then I'll finally get to endgame.
I put like 80 hrs into this game in the past 3 weeks. And I really like the game, it's not perfect but some part like skills progression, crafting and quality of life are imo the best in the genre (Sure that's not as deep as Poe, but I don't want to put 3k hours into a game). But there is some flaws, the maps have bad layouts, there is a lot of backtracking if you didn't go the right path at first. There should be as you say more mobs in end game maps. Having to manually clic on crafting material rather than just steping on them to collect annoy me a lot. Something I disagree with you is about the bosses, I find them really good, you have to be carrefull about their paterns more than in other arpgs. The length really depend on the build, with a bladencer with no unique I have destroy Lagon and Majasa within second during the campaign. Other builds were, yeah, slower, but not that much.
Awesome, yeah the backtracking is a bummer. I guess I haven't played a build yet where those bosses were easy. Lagon has been especially long in my experience, easily 10 minutes or more only for me to have to start over completely if I got one shot by something. That said, my builds have maybe just been not up to it by the time I reach them.
@@SchwingyGaming Yeah, the bosses shouldn't take you that long, a few minutes, maybe 5, are ok, but surely not 10. On my sorcerer any attack of lagon one shoted me, I manage to avoid all attacks after a few try. Another think I really like about the game is all the classes I have try yet (Swarmblade Druid, VoidKnight, Sorcerer and Bladedencer) have been fun and diverse to play.
great review. i just started to play this, and it's pretty good, except the music i encountered so far was not really fitting the themes in my opinion. I turned it off. That is something PoE has nailed. Love the music in there.
Good overview. I am not a typical ARPG player but wanted to get my teeth into something after the D4 beta, which left me feeling lukewarm. Buying D3 now feels a bit wrong, especially seeing how it's almost $30 so I thought I'd check it out as someone mentioned this game in another video. Sounds like LE is a pretty polished product at this point and there aren't too many bugs. You saying that loot and crafting just makes sense is encouraging so might actually get it instead of D3.
I would definitely recommend this over D3 personally, just the fact that the game isn't even finished yet and that more content is coming (eventually), and that the devs seem to really believe in their product while taking players' feedback into real consideration, is enough for me to place this over D3.
Oh man, all you need is diablo 2 resurrected. Just the perfect game of all the time! Btw last epoch looks very promising for me. I am diablo 2 player and this is the only arpg which is close to diablo 2.
@@ivanganchev8066 If you like Diablo 2 resurrected, you owe it to yourself to try Project Diablo 2. It blows D2R away, you can feel the passion and commitment from the dev team. The only thing D2R offers over it is the graphics, but PD2 is a wholly rebalanced and updated game, with new crafting, end game areas and bosses, charms inventory, trade site, and it's free if you have D2!
Literally same thing. Played D4 beta and wanted to dive into this genre as I wait for D4 to release. Bought Diablo 3 and altough it’s fun the graphics kill it for me. Found out about this game and been playing it for 2-3 days now and loving it!
I'm a huge fan of the Diablo franchise, I've played 100+ hours Diablo 4 but I don't know it just dont feel the same way than previous titles, is this game worth it?
I think it depends on what you're trying to get out of it. If it's a well structured and interesting story, then I believe you will be disappointed. If it's amazing visuals, same thing. If it's build customization and diversity, then I think it's got that in spades!
I don't think it was mentioned in this video but I was looking into buying the game and made aware of a character deletion bug. Does anyone here have any info on if that has been resolved yet? I want to give the game a shot but losing all progress due to character deletion is kind of unforgivable, even for a game in EA, for me and I am not not down to take that chance of losing all my progress.
I'm not sure about "deletion" I know they were having some rollback issues and that they've been making it a priority to fix those. Have they fixed all of them? That, I do not know :/ FWIW, I never had any of those issues, but I could have been lucky.
As far as I know there's two main issues going around for offline characters: corruption which can kinda be resolved with Steam cloud saves, and rollbacks which were introduced with the multiplayer patch and are on the dev's radar. I've sunk around 65 hours into the game so far and haven't experienced either issue, but I have seen reports on the subreddit, official Discord server and forums. Online characters don't seem to have any issues like this, but online _does_ have its own issues such as lag, instability and desync.
Seems like they are a small team of devs that love aarpgs. As long as the nail the important things it’ll be considered a good aarpg. I started playing last night and I like the combat feel. I feel when I hit and know when I’m about to get hit. If that’s off it’s a really big negative for me. After that build depth itemization and end game are what makes a game great. I just started but after watching this video I feel pretty good about it.
The devs are totally massive arpg players. They literally started on reddit talking about what theyd love about a new game and then were like fuck it we'll make it ourselves.
My first character in the campaign since multiplayer came out was a Beastmaster using swipe and wolves for a lot of spirit wolves damage. I made it so tanky by the time I got to Majasa I face-tanked her (first time I've ever had a character do that) on shit-tier gear. It didn't take that long either. There are some combinations of abilities that can just trivialize early content. It leveled out a lot in monoliths and became more on par with my older characters (from before multiplayer).
gr8 video, thx for the upload. Small tip, Maybe try and zoom out the camera that is on you, currently there too much face covering the screen when it shifts to you to the point one can see your pores. While on that note, mind mentioning the camera you are using, impressed nonetheless.
100% agree hahaha, I was just using my phone's camera, an LG. I'm gonna have to play around more with camera positioning, right now I'm pretty limited just because of literal space I have around my desk (next to none) and I don't have a tripod yet. I'm looking into it! Thanks for the feedback.
@@SchwingyGaming The clarity on your phone is amazing. Quite understandable, i mean u gotta make do with what u got for now and for what it's worth, u are making it work, to the point and honest, just how we like it, keep it up and your channel will only grow with time.
Thanks for this review, you rocked it. Nice vid, nice editing. As a french player, I just got into the ARPG genre and I must say I love it.. I was looking for Last Epoch, unfortunately it’s still in beta and no Fr version (yet). So my choice tends toward Wolcen or Path of Exile, which one would you recommend ? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
My written French is a little rusty..
@@SchwingyGaming Yes I understood everything don’t worry, thanks for making the effort to reply in french lol :) I’m playing Wolcen actually (even tho there are quite some bugs like rollbacks, items you can’t pick up, crash on menus & cinematics..) Looking forwards for your next videos
@@Wild-Instinct Awesome hahah, when I last played wolcen about a year ago, I didn't really run into any of those issues. It's disappointing to hear they're still around again now that the game was updated some more.
I only started today. So far it's really good. I do hope they improve the gfx fidelity, the game looks dated. Also some of the animations are janky. The story stuff needs voice acting. you get a bit of reading fatigue in this game. Then there's some character portraits thar don't match the npc. Eg a lady had a bald guys portrait. But gameplay is good. Crafting is great and fresh (to me).
I think most of the bugs related to multiplayer I experienced are fixed, but I would encourage others to chime in here with actual recent multiplayer experience, since I'm just going off what I've read in patch notes.
Always feel tempted to buy it. But Early Access always make me hesitate. I would prefer everything in place before paying a good full price for it. Especially after at least one DL or expac, whi h usually means one hefty QoL patch. Haha.
I'm now level 50 and put in 25 hours, but I feel so disconnected from the world, and it has killed my interest in the game. When I first started out, it seemed like the story would be interesting, but my god is it a mess! Everything feels desolate and void, like everything has always been on the brink of destruction and extinction. Where the F are the cities and civilizations? I don't know what I'm killing and why. Also the music feels like a placeholder, it is outright bad at times and I've had to put my own music. It is so weird to me, because I typically never care about the world building and story of ARPGs, but the lack of it here killed my interest in the game. I hope anyone who plays this get's their money's worth and has fun, but I'm passing on it and will transition to D4 100% when it comes out.
Last Epoch, Wolcen, and other promising early access ARPGs I think will only succeed if Diablo 4 fails or at least receives a polarizing reception like D3. I remember Diablo 3 being a disappointment, and then immediately after other ARPGs started booming, it was a god damn gold rush to capture that audience of millions who were heart broken by D3. But if D4 knocks it out of the park and is really as awesome as the beta promises, and doesn't screw up monetization... then I don't think a game like this will have a large market, and even GGG will probably be scared shitless about releasing PoE2. It'd be a different story if the game was complete and polished NOW, but most people don't want to jump into incomplete games.
I played this game in singleplayer a year ago and even back then it was amazing. Been looking forward to immerse myself in it again. Man... Thank you for honesr review of what I consider the best game ever. And yes, if you ask me, the story was well worth it. I just love the Primalist ❤
Yeaaah. It's crazy how long fancy editing takes for me to do, I decided to forego it this time, going for a more chill laid back approach. Hopefully it was still a good watch!
The amount of things this games offers in beta compared to most tripple launches 8s jyst amaxing i love this game. Be prepared to pay for this qol in d4 lol 😆.
Because i play arpgs for the story but still like taking my time exploring every thing during my campaign how long do you think it takes to beat the campaign?
I'd say around 10-ish hours if you're new and doing all the quests at a natural pace. The cool thing with Last Epoch is most of the campaign is actually skippable if you just wish to get to endgame (monoliths, aka LE's version of D3's rifts or PoE's maps), so players are able to get through the essential part of the campaign in around 2-3 hours (based on my count), spend maybe an extra hour or two getting the skill points and idol/charm slots unlocked, then you can jump straight into endgame. There's even an act skip that you can use to catapult yourself further into the campaign without needing to do any of the in-between quests, and the devs are looking to add more. Worth mentioning that the campaign is currently incomplete, though, as we're still missing a few acts.
Absolutely. Definitely worth giving a shot, has way more depth than D4 if that's what you're looking for. The story and visuals are not as well executed as D4 though, so if that's all you're interested in, then maybe skip.
Almost didn’t trust any negative criticism on this review when you said not one good soundtrack. Then you edited it to say the end of time area is a good track. Right on. That track is a banger. But yea other than that one, music isn’t the best. But it’s good they nailed that one because that’s where you spend most of your time in end game
Music in general being bad in this game is something I really can't agree with. Sure, they're not melody-heavy and often loop the same few notes, but I still think they're great and are very progressive-rock-oriented. A lot reminded me of songs from Pink Floyd, etc and they give the game a great atmosphere.
The amount of mobs are low because they dont want Poe gameplay constantly full screen with flashing effects. If i remember correctly. And i like it. Full screen chaos is boring af
Enemies scale with the zone of the levels which I guess is like Titan Quest? Never played that one yet. So to clarify, a certain area in the campaign is always going to be that exact level.
I can't say exactly, but I mostly rushed through the campaign (not trying to speedrun, but not paying attention to the text for example) and I was able to get through it in about a dozen hours or so. I think it's probably safe to expect a more relaxed playthrough while doing optional sidequests to take at least 15 hours or so. That's my best educated guess anyhow!
Nice video, but i am confused. Where s the "thanks to today's sponsor, NordVPN, without them this video would not be possible, because i could only afford this camera because of them. The quality of all my videos before is crap, thank you NordVPN!!!!" Story: in all ARPGs i played i really do not care at all about the story. Let me smash the bad guys and give me fine loot, and i am fine with the game.
Try Project Diablo 2, it's free if you already have D2 😀. Way better than Diablo 3, with much more itemization options. You may need to get over the graphics though.
they really are different beasts... for the best experience I'd suggest playing D3 first. Everyone says that LE crafting is simple, but you kinda have to know the basics and D3 will ease you into them. You will also probably end up liking both games by playing this way. If you play LE first you'd be disappointed by D3.
Well, if you can get Diablo 3 cheap (say, $10-15) with reaper of souls? Might be worth it. D3 has a nightmare inducing itemization problem that D4 is about to repeat. Last Epoch doesn't repeat that same design error and while it's crafting system takes a little bit of time to get to grips with, it's a solid system and you can use it or ignore it for the most part until endgame. I agree with armorvil that playing D3 first (and for your own sake do not play it without Reaper of Souls!) it will be a significant let down. To elaborate on D3-D4's item problem: Your build is determined by the legendary affixes (or set you finish) because those are so stupidly powerful and your skill options have so little depth. Last Epoch solved that by having a skill tree for your class, a choice of 3 subclasses for your class with their own trees (that you can half go down) AND every single skill having it's own skill tree that is full of effect changing/enhancing nodes. Respecing between skills is pretty close to painless so you can try builds relatively freely. (But it's not without a minor loss in power while you work up the new skill.) In example: D3-D4: I want to do a Wolves build. So I slot the Wolf summon skill in... now I better get lucky and find items that provide legendary effects tied into wolves, or I will be unplayably weak. Since there's nothing other than items, most specifically Legendary/Unique and/or Set items that make that build work. Last Epoch: I want to do a Wolves build, so I slot the Wolf summon skill into my mastery slot, and maybe take things on my class trees that buff summons or wolves in specific. If I get items that buff Wolves, that's a bonus. Because skills get more points for their tree as I use them, I might swap around support skills (like other summons, or buffs or a leap attack) until I find some I want to stick with and keep ranking them up.
Action arpg are not known for the music. Im not an avid Poe fan, played and finished only the campaign. But the music in that game its purely unbeatable:) Totally agree on LE music, its awfull, has to play poe music in the background
i played last epoch before i started path of exile, i wish poe hat sort inventory to fit anything, transfer all to alignet stashs, and the bigger inventory and a clear instrution to system that when i fail i can repeat until i understand what iam doing, what the fuck are the temples anyway who i progress in that whats even the goal of the damn thing... and what are my potential rewards that makes me care doing them
I believe the overuse of the word beta is a crutch at this point for LE, its been in early access for 5 freaking years at this point I dont believe this game will ever get a full release and the excuse its in beta is like when someone trolls on twitter but then claims "I was hacked". I tried this game with another Wolcen around the same time 2020'ish but were trash and both are still trash but only one still claims to be in beta, I wonder why?
Hmm that's weird, a friend of mine had a similar issue about a month ago (when the convergeance update dropped) and was able to get it resolved within a day. I guess try contacting them again if you haven't already?
yeah they are actively updating sound affects, moves to look better, and much more. i do also really hope they change the characters cause those look soooo dated lol
Seen some reviews about the game and they all been pretty positive but it stil doesnt draws me in when i look at the photage of the game, dont know what it is but something is off, maybe the monster design or the UI, its not asthaticly pleasing like diablo 4 for example
I get that. I honestly felt the same way for a year or two before I finally bought it last summer. I got used to the visuals after playing it for a bit.
Game feels solid but stuff just seems really off most of the time. The abilities are very bland and boring and don't offer too much 'life' to them if that makes sense.
LE is a top arpg even now. I have little doubt it will be the best, considering poe is not even an arpg - it is an annpoying ebay simulator where u have to pay other people to trade for you.... so yea - that game is garbage. LE is amazing.
I KNOW! I have both going but it still comes through, I dunno what to do at this point. Trust me it bothers the hell out of me too. I'll keep playing with different settings until I find something that works.. Have any recommendations?
@@SchwingyGaming Hmmm could be the type of mic you have but that seems good and has a good mic filter too so I'm not too sure 😂 maybe play around with the dynamic range, compress the audio abit and try out another EQ plugin
@@retractionmusic4972 thanks, I'll play around with it! Mic shouldn't be the problem. I'm wondering if maybe my compression is going on before the EQ and De-esser which maybe emphasizes the issue. I'm not sure if I can change the order of operations in the program I use but I'll definitely look into it.
Not to the same extent as PoE in my experience! It depends on the build I suppose but you'll have several skills that you'll actively use when appropriate which I find to be more engaging.
I just don't like the earlier bosses. The mechanics and themes are repetitive/boring. Otherwise, it's one of the best ARPGs out there...and it's not done.
FYI > Last Epoch was patched today, addressing several of the bugs while enhancing some of the look and feel. Despite being in beta, I'm absolutely enjoying LE! Thanks for making this great video!
HAHA this made me laugh. Well he said set in "early access". I just watched a video but then noticed that video was 4 years old. Today the game version is ONLY 0.91. Yeah still sucking in the money saying "early access".
logged in, 4 minutes in game, it looks HORRIBLE - they should have made the starting region something darker - but starting in that bringt area you see how everything looks like plastic. this is worse than GrimDawn, id even say that d2remaster is visually more appealing.
Wow! 15k views in two days. That's insane as far as my stuff usually goes. You guys are awesome! Thank you!
Food wars poster! What a legend!
all the guys that dont know what to do till d4 release :D
I havenot tried any arpg games. Pls tell me , which one to try out first - the last epoch, path of exile, wolcen , grim dawn ?
I heard people complaining about wolcen, bit buggy. My question is how is wolcen as of lets say april 2023. Since march is almost over.
@@lordgallo4213 I can't comment on the current state of Wolcen or Grim Dawn but I would probably recommend Last Epoch if you're new to the genre!
It’s unfortunate that so many reviews nowadays don’t cover that aspect, even outside of the ARPG genre…
Great job on the review.
Started playing PoE a week ago and stumbled across some of your vids and feels like I've found a real diamond in the rough. Your vids are so good and I look forward to watching your channel rise to become an ARPG RUclips POWERHOUSE.
Haha thank you! The DREAM! ;P
this was a very useful review homie thanks, you're very thorough and really focused on the player experience side of things which is really useful! you also seem very fair about your own personal biases which is nice too! great content all in all. i'm gonna get this game i think, i'm sorta jonesing for something after the D4 beta!
Thanks homes, I tried not to forget anything important to me or that may be important to others, though I probably missed out on something.. Hope you enjoy the game if you do pick it up!
Haha I bought it before watching a review. Glad it looks alright.
Oh LE definitely fits what you're looking for. I'm feeling the same way about it and just like you, Grim Dawn didn't do it for me.
Have you tried Project Diablo 2? You might like it! It's still going strong and is so much better than D3, I personally like it more than PoE.
Great Video Man! I think the best thing about Last Epoch is the ease of play. Every night after work or doing normal life when I come home and want to play a game that's engaging but not stressful, I choose between PoE or Last Epoch. Last Epoch wins most nights because its so much easier to just jump in and feel like you are accomplishing something. Obviously this is because I am still learning PoE and I can't function in that game without 10 guides open in my browser and PoB guiding taking control of the left side of my brain. With Last Epoch things just feel a bit more attainable because I dont need to study in order to play.
But like I said in my LE video last year. I think they are just very different experiences. Last Epoch is built to be an easier, more attainable game (For now) while PoE is built for the character builders and theory crafters and the satisfaction of seeing your hard work pay off. Once I hit 2000 hours in PoE and can finally kill an Uber Boss, then maybe I'll choose PoE over Last Epoch for a chill game ;}
@@SchwingyGaming 100%. One of my favorite masteries is the void knight. So much fun with HUGE cleave and fun buttons to press.
I'll give it a go!
I want to do the same (come back home after work and just relax and play a game), but I can’t really settle on a game. I kinda like D4 and while waiting for the official release, I’m so torn right between a bunch of games: PoE, D3, D2R, Last Epoch, WoW, and New World.
@@plankton383 D2R of course :)
i think this game is getting a lot of attention after the disappointingly shallow feel of d4 beta. i never really had this on my radar until people compared the skill trees of both games and this has me intrigued.
Dissapointly shallow is exactly how I felt. Hopefully end game will be better.
@@StealingWinter bought LE last night and so glad i did. still could use the polish that we're used to from blizz but obviously they have a huge budget.
I’ve completed the main campaign for last epoch 9 times now, I still don’t know what it’s about. The game is so fun it distracts me from the story.
Multiplayer needs work.
but better than grim dawn
Beware, some games never really stop t be a beta. There is some space sim games as an example, to not name it...
@@guillaumepare9651 first and foremost, study English grammar cuz cant understand your words arrangement 😂
The Sentinel stands out like a sore thumb. Dude looks like a struck match. ROFL 😆
Thanks for the review. I just picked this up this morning and I'm gonna get into it when I get home from work. For 35$ it seems like a deal
@@SchwingyGaming Looking forward for it Schwingy! Anyway, keep up your awesome work!
@@ramadhansurjoharso5981 Thank you
@@SchwingyGaming FWIW, a few of the people who worked on TQ went on to develop Grim Dawn, which is a fun game in its own right. If you played TQ at all, you'll instantly recognize the same skill tree mechanism in GD.
@@madDdog67 Yeah, I have played grim dawn before, and have since made a titan quest video with my thoughts that can check out if you wanna!
The skill tree system was indeed identical. :P
Thanks. Nobody is talking about the campaign story so I appreciate your opinion.
I love honest reviews.
Best early access most complete a RPG in the history of gaming
I appreciate your bacon collars perspective. Good video.
You deserve more subscribers! Great content. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
5:53 as someone with 2.5k hours in Grim Dawn... I hear you lol
Fair criticism, thanks for bringing it up!
Thanks for putting this together
I love the aesthetics of the characters...
Really well reviewed. Learned a lot.
The characters look incredibly goofy in the 3D view.
Fortunately, in the in-game view they actually looks quite nice!
That, I do not know :/
FWIW, I never had any of those issues, but I could have been lucky.
Great review! I’ll be sure to check it out.
Thanks Crazywizza! Cool to see you're still around watching my stuff whenever I upload! Really appreciate it!
Beast Master and Druid are also some of the tankiest masteries.
gr8 video, thx for the upload.

@@SchwingyGaming Yes I understood everything don’t worry, thanks for making the effort to reply in french lol :) I’m playing Wolcen actually (even tho there are quite some bugs like rollbacks, items you can’t pick up, crash on menus & cinematics..)
Looking forwards for your next videos
@@Wild-Instinct Awesome hahah, when I last played wolcen about a year ago, I didn't really run into any of those issues. It's disappointing to hear they're still around again now that the game was updated some more.
I only started today. So far it's really good.
I do hope they improve the gfx fidelity, the game looks dated. Also some of the animations are janky. The story stuff needs voice acting. you get a bit of reading fatigue in this game. Then there's some character portraits thar don't match the npc. Eg a lady had a bald guys portrait.
But gameplay is good. Crafting is great and fresh (to me).
well, Its been 2 months since your video. have the multiplayer issues been fixed since then? Thanks for the review.
Hi I am wondering if there's any further monetization systems in the game after purchase? Thanks,
None right now, but they do plan on selling cosmetics either after the full release or around then, as far as I know.

Great review, well explained and good feedback
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
I played this game in singleplayer a year ago and even back then it was amazing. Been looking forward to immerse myself in it again. Man...
Thank you for honesr review of what I consider the best game ever. And yes, if you ask me, the story was well worth it. I just love the Primalist ❤
Finally another Schwingy video! 🤪
Edit: No fancy editing this time 😔
@@jcm2606 wow, cool thanks for the long reply, the more input i get the better
so given the state of D4, would you still recommend it?
A lot reminded me of songs from Pink Floyd, etc and they give the game a great atmosphere.
as someone who doesn't play, if you would've told me this was POE I would've believed you
Yeah I mean, the similarities and influences are definitely there!
been waiting for this one
The amount of mobs are low because they dont want Poe gameplay constantly full screen with flashing effects. If i remember correctly. And i like it. Full screen chaos is boring af
Oh ya and do enemies scale with leveling like diablo or does each zone have the enemies at the same level like titan quest for example
@@SchwingyGaming cool thanks i can get more sense if I should buy it now
The first thing I do in any game is turn off the music
Nice video, but i am confused. Where s the "thanks to today's sponsor, NordVPN, without them this video would not be possible, because i could only afford this camera because of them. The quality of all my videos before is crap, thank you NordVPN!!!!"
Story: in all ARPGs i played i really do not care at all about the story. Let me smash the bad guys and give me fine loot, and i am fine with the game.
If you think the boss-fights are long, that means your build sucks. You need to build more damage.
I’m thinking if to trying Diablo 3, but then I saw there Last epoch. Does anyone have a suggestion on which one i should try?
Try Project Diablo 2, it's free if you already have D2 😀. Way better than Diablo 3, with much more itemization options. You may need to get over the graphics though.
they really are different beasts... for the best experience I'd suggest playing D3 first. Everyone says that LE crafting is simple, but you kinda have to know the basics and D3 will ease you into them. You will also probably end up liking both games by playing this way. If you play LE first you'd be disappointed by D3.
get this till diablo 4 comes out
Well, if you can get Diablo 3 cheap (say, $10-15) with reaper of souls?
(But it's not without a minor loss in power while you work up the new skill.)
In example:
D3-D4: I want to do a Wolves build.
@@Sorain1 thank you so much!!!!
Went to the game's Steam page after watching the video and noticed they added a cash shop, so my interest is gone instantaneously.
Action arpg are not known for the music.
Im not an avid Poe fan, played and finished only the campaign. But the music in that game its purely unbeatable:)
Totally agree on LE music, its awfull, has to play poe music in the background
i played last epoch before i started path of exile, i wish poe hat sort inventory to fit anything, transfer all to alignet stashs, and the bigger inventory
and a clear instrution to system that when i fail i can repeat until i understand what iam doing, what the fuck are the temples anyway who i progress in that whats even the goal of the damn thing... and what are my potential rewards that makes me care doing them
I believe the overuse of the word beta is a crutch at this point for LE, its been in early access for 5 freaking years at this point I dont believe this game will ever get a full release and the excuse its in beta is like when someone trolls on twitter but then claims "I was hacked". I tried this game with another Wolcen around the same time 2020'ish but were trash and both are still trash but only one still claims to be in beta, I wonder why?
i really wana play, still waiting for my kickstarter key ( i backed in 2018 ) been 2 weeks now ... no reply from the support
Hmm that's weird, a friend of mine had a similar issue about a month ago (when the convergeance update dropped) and was able to get it resolved within a day. I guess try contacting them again if you haven't already?
will def check back in on this game in another 3 years after it leaves EA and has more content.
yeah they are actively updating sound affects, moves to look better, and much more. i do also really hope they change the characters cause those look soooo dated lol
Thank you! Nice honest review. One suggestion: Try Grim Dawn, i think you will enjoy it very much. If you do, looking forward to your review :)
Thank you for the vid, I'm sold on this game after playing D4 and disappointed by it
Hope you enjoy it!
Forgot to mention that this game eats RAM for breakfest, lunch and dinner
I really like what EHG is doing with the faction system.
You need either low pass filter or a de esser on your vocals can hear your tongue spit formations sounds coming through so much lol
@@SchwingyGaming yeah order can change a lot or even plugins too but great video :)
@@retractionmusic4972 thanks a bunch!
I really wish it comes to PSN...
This is the only arpg besides d2 where i can play lightning fury
Is it normal for easly access to be this long
Every game has lacking music compared with Diablo1, 2 and Grim Dawn ahahaha
Tristram music
Food Wars and Demon Slayer.
a Man of Culture I see.
What else should I put up there?
I like the plastic look. It looks like moving miniatures.
Is combat spammy and boring like POE where you just dash and click constantly?
Not to the same extent as PoE in my experience! It depends on the build I suppose but you'll have several skills that you'll actively use when appropriate which I find to be more engaging.
I played this,... 3, 69 chars... and on 68.... Nah... just play poe.
no thx
I just don't like the earlier bosses. The mechanics and themes are repetitive/boring. Otherwise, it's one of the best ARPGs out there...and it's not done.
FYI > Last Epoch was patched today, addressing several of the bugs while enhancing some of the look and feel. Despite being in beta, I'm absolutely enjoying LE! Thanks for making this great video!
Oh cool, I read about the bugs, didn't know about the visual improvements and feel, I'll be checking it out again in my spare time!
HAHA this made me laugh. Well he said set in "early access". I just watched a video but then noticed that video was 4 years old. Today the game version is ONLY 0.91. Yeah still sucking in the money saying "early access".
its a solid game but theres not enough content
logged in, 4 minutes in game, it looks HORRIBLE - they should have made the starting region something darker - but starting in that bringt area you see how everything looks like plastic.
this is worse than GrimDawn, id even say that d2remaster is visually more appealing.
Yeah.. it is pretty bright. The start wasn't like that until an update they did last fall.
물리엔진이 독특하다...흠!
3년전쯤에 잠깐 본기억이있는데 아직도 개발중이었구나. 디아블로4에 너무실망해서 다른거 찾고있었는데
다음세일기간때 사야겠다
좋은 생각!
