Some players act as the bridge crew, with the captain controlling the overall battle strategy, and other players acting as infantry doing boarding actions or landing on planet surfaces and others piloting fighters and bombers. I imagined that all the units would be AI controlled, but players could queue up basically to play a fighter or a soldier and would then drop in to control one in an active game as they were available. So sometimes your units would be player controlled, and if they died, they'd take control of another unit nearby. I always thought it would be cool. @@Bajtjr Yeah, NS2 is easily the best example of this game idea... but it's really hard to get right, since skill/experience makes an INSANE difference in how strong a team is... you could have a team of cracked troops, but a horrible commander can throw that away. And vise versa as well...
Ita about damn time genre gets some much needed attention and a revival! This looks like it'd be a blast to play! We need more Starship Troopersesqe type games too 😂
Reminds me of "Savage: The Battle for Newerth" which was basically a mix of RTS and First Person "Shooter" (it was mostly melee). But that concept with a SciFi Shooter theme ala Starship Troopers sounds like an absolute blast and looked great!
Savage was a great game and took the fight&command aspect of Battlezone to its perfection. Still remember the time i spent on Savage with friends, we had a couple of guys who were great commanders and the whole teching up to get better weapons before the beast faction players demolished us in melee was a rush
The game looks really fun with replayability. This is the combination I was hoping for with a new Halo Wars. Being able to control ground and air units while being able to switch to commander or having a buddy play the role
if halo wars 3 becomes this, i would be in love forever... they have anounced they want to make halo wars 3 but have nothing more done about the whole ordeal so maybe they could take inspiration and make this type of game, who knows

Very cool RTS cross FPS Mech shooter vs aliens! It's looking like it's going to be reaaal cool!! The whole genre just brings back Battlezone vibes!
Ive said this for years, why cant a developer make a RTS and have real people on the ground. Such a cool idea and literally only a few games have ever attempted it. Thanks for showing this Jack
FPS+RTS is such an amazing mix. Natural Selection is one of the best games I have ever played. I miss it every day. Really glad to learn about this game, it's definitely looking unique. I hope the development advances well and it gets popular!
This would be a very cool team-building game to simulate the importance of logistics. You have the frontliners playing as their own characters and protecting the bases and extraction of resources. Then you have the guys on RTS-mode providing everything the frontliners need. The RTS players need the frontliners and vice versa to properly fight.
The most impressive thing about this title is that for the first time first persone and commander are actually made both really well instead of just picking one of the two to focus on and going along
I used to play Savage for a bit back in the late 00s and I remember thinking the FPS RTS concept was pretty cool. Nice to see something new coming out.
The only issue I think there is with this genre is a lot of people will want to be a commander and not many will want to be boots on the ground. Otherwise, I think it is an amazing-looking game! I wish there were more games like this as I do think it is a golden opportunity for a big dev to make huge.
BF2142 had the same problem. Or worse, you join a game with a crap commander. It’s going to be even worse here where the commander really needs some rts creds to do a good job
This looks AWESOME! - I used to play a bit of Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars and Halo Wars back in the day... but allowing players to join and play in first person takes it to another level. I didn't even know about C&C Renegade or Natural Selection. I'd definitely play this game. I'm sure with a bit of polish like a more interesting and varied terrain and better looking building destruction, this game would really do well.
@Arais_Demlant bro I'm glad you mentioned battlezone, can't believe he left that one out. Glad I'm not the only one that noticed the battlezone similarities
Dude, Jack. This game looks phenomenal. Very impressed with the developer, the ideas he/they have for a game like this. I'm just a bit older than you and I was a huge fan and still am of command and conquer national selection and if you ever played Dystopia on steam that's another one that really gained my attention around the same time of natural selection. Thank You so much for finding such great titles of up and coming games.
I put hundreds of hours into both. Dystopia was great, a 'Tron' like feel to it. FPS while two were in a 'matrix' jacked in per say hacking to help. Fun times 👌
A game like this can be an interesting comepetitive game if theres more meat to it. Think of it like Starcraft where you have to get resources to build up your base and army. The commander can build up the base while the other players are the army guys. The army guys go out to find resources to build up the base from scratch like blueprints for weapons, tanks, new buildings, etc. While at the same time finding resources along the way and killing enemies. The opposing team can do the same thing, but they're the crabs and building up a hive cluster base. The game can end with either team destroy each other's base and then switch sides after the match ends.
FINALLY I used to play a game that was FPS and RTS tower defense but I havnt been able to find it in forever. This fills the gap, and it looks SO good.
OK this definitely brings me back to the Battlezone 2 days, CnC Renegade etc. Still some underground scenes modding Battlezone 2 alongside the Renegade X project today. I hope this gains traction. It would be immense to see some more physics based destruction in something like this. This genre is underrated for the possibilities.
Yes, many years ago I played some strategy game made by Microsoft where you could also control units. I already found Steam and bought Silica thanks to you..
Reminds of a game called Battlezone 2 (came out in 1999 I think I remember correctly and I just about got it running on my Pentium 233MMX...) and did a lot of what this seems to be doing- well worth checking out! This game looks promising for sure- nice catch Jack 👍
One of my all time favorites of this genre was the Counter Strike mod "Empires" It was amazing. Later on the game Planetside used a similar formula, but Empires was so cool because it felt realisitc in its design, not necessarily futuristic like the Planetside series.
YESSSSSS, we need this, I'm glad people like this dev exist, because a lot of the stuff that was done before is underrated and with new technology can be amazing
THANK YOU! For posting this. Man I've been looking for something new and fresh to play, and TBH, I had no idea there was such a thing as an RTS/FPS crossover. Went on steam and bought right away, cant wait to play this one.
I'd love to see more Natural Selection type games. Being able to play as an alien or something other than just typical humans is a lot of fun especially when you throw in multiplayer.
my dream game that no one had ever developed consisted of: RTS, FPS, base building, massive pvp & pve open world, three distinct races with different classes, vehicles, capturing territories, total war and a character customization progress system including items weapons you can grind out of your character. this game is giving me tears and hope
Im just so happy people are coming back to Natural Selection 2 because of it The game is still very much alive and its so fun hearing ppl talk about it and start playing it again Please come play with us
I remember my first time playing Savage and it was amazing! Would love to see this genre come back in full. Savage and it's sequal and Natural Selection and it's sequal are all I can really think of that had this sort of gameplay. I know there's been others (dirty bomb I think?) that took bits of the hybrid genre but not taking it to full RTS.
Savage! I was dating a girl whose brother managed one of those nerdy card shops in the mall (and it had computers for rent). They bought a ton of copies of Savage at release... and literally no one ever played them. I bought one of them shortly thereafter for $5. It was a neat game.
Wow I remember RTS games like Empire Earth, Warcraft II & Age of Empires really pulling me into gaming back in the day. This looks like a ton of satisfying gameplay.. I kinda hope they release this on consoles
I'm so glad this style of game is coming back. Natural selection was legendary, and it's a shame its popularity waned, but hopefully, this will be the revival that the series needs
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG !!!!! I played Rise and Fall like for over 1000 hours and I loved that you can get into the battle like in FPS while also commanding it like an RTS. This is so good!!!!!
I've been waiting for this kind of games for a really really long time, it seems extremely fascinating to me as a genre, I hope many more like this will be created
One of my favorite games as a kid was Sanctum 2. It's a FPS Tower Defense game by the same studio that made Goat Simulator (but like, it's not a meme game like Goat Sim is XD). Great game, shame nobody plays it anymore. This video reminded me of it
Might I recommend Executive Assault 2 as well? Its a pretty damn impressive RTS/FPS combo as well - although it focuses mainly on spaceship combat. It does have ground combat as well though within the bases and stations themselves.
I've been obsessed with this genre since playing a demo of Urban Assault as a kid. There have been some decent attempts to make a game like this (parts of it look a LOT like Renegade X) but this is one of the most polished and I almost can't believe it's just one guy. I'm a little iffy on the setting but I might pick this up just for how unique it is.
@@Ricolaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I used to play Natural Selection years ago, and if you had a commander that didn't know what they where doing the game was very quickly lost. This is what I meant
This game should have huge potential to be great, especially if they allow mod support on the Steam Workshop. EDIT: The 40K Mods could be epic with a game built from the ground up with this type of gameplay in mind!!
I have been HUNGRY for this kind of game! I loved (2005) Star Wars Battlefront 2's galactic conquest as an idea, and always wanted it to be expanded on!
Reminds me of that game where you could just build sandbag walls right up to the enemy base and block their harvester thingies in. They just stopped there and looked at the sandbags while you teched up and built a massive army and destroyed them hehehe. Might have been Command & Conquer, something like that anyway. Looks really cool though.
Similar concept to Battlezone (2 for me specifically) back in the day. That one, you built the base and such from a first person perspective which has a nice charm (until you built an uplink) That was an outstanding game, but, games that straddle two genres together can struggle (commercially) because people who are hardcore into one, often don't like the other. I hope this fares well!
I dreamed for years for somebody to make star craft like game, where You can control individual units like in shooters. I believe one of battlefield games had this concept, where one player was a general, and he was giving orders to squads etc. But imagine how cool it would be, to relieve StarCraft missions as a hydralisk or a mamoth 😅
It's a classic RTS game, but you can actually play as one of the characters... that's a dream-come-true.

Man I'm so glad to see people remembering Battlezone in 2023
You can play Warshift against enemy AI. No fan base needed.
Never played a game like this. Looks fun!
because it's hard to implement but if it does I hope it goes I love this type of game play.
Natural selection 2 was the best game like this in my opinion but it had kind of a rough start
@@Bajtjr Yeah, NS2 is easily the best example of this game idea... but it's really hard to get right, since skill/experience makes an INSANE difference in how strong a team is... you could have a team of cracked troops, but a horrible commander can throw that away. And vise versa as well...
I’ve been watching this game closely and I’m glad to see it getting more publicity.
Savage was amazing! Immediately came to mind
savage, empires mod for source were all fun but idk if still active
Savage style lives on!
Savage was my first thought as well.
The game looks really fun with replayability. This is the combination I was hoping for with a new Halo Wars. Being able to control ground and air units while being able to switch to commander or having a buddy play the role
Same was dreaming for halo wars 2 to be this
if halo wars 3 becomes this, i would be in love forever... they have anounced they want to make halo wars 3 but have nothing more done about the whole ordeal so maybe they could take inspiration and make this type of game, who knows
There's an Indie game being developed which has a very similar feel! I had to double check it wasn't the same game haha
It's called Outpost: Infinity siege developed by a group called Team Ranger. Very cool RTS cross FPS Mech shooter vs aliens! It's looking like it's going to be reaaal cool!!
The whole genre just brings back Battlezone vibes!
I'm all for the RTS revival
RTS evolved
Something like Battlezone would be great!
I just started playing Stranded Alien Dawn
@@Jim-Stick I LOVED battlezone when I was a kid, such a great game.
Definitely! With this rts fps game and other upcoming projects like Homeworld 3, the genre is being pushed again
Ive said this for years, why cant a developer make a RTS and have real people on the ground. Such a cool idea and literally only a few games have ever attempted it. Thanks for showing this Jack
They've been making them for years but they always stay quite niche and die out eventually like NS1 and NS2
I just saw this on the Steam page today, looks super interesting and I might buy it after this video!
FPS+RTS is such an amazing mix. Natural Selection is one of the best games I have ever played. I miss it every day. Really glad to learn about this game, it's definitely looking unique. I hope the development advances well and it gets popular!
Natural selection 2 is still playable iirc, but no more active development.
@@Zilican how can u play it? Is there a player base?
I wish Natural Selection 2 was still populated. It was so unique and fun to play with a group of friends.
I think it is still populated. At least there are some games at weekends
That was such an underrated game
i bought it yesterday and theres still full servers
This game Was so unique, great memories
This. Natural Selection 2 was absolutely one of the coolest and most unique games I’ve ever played. Unfortunately it’s audience is a bit niche.
You can check the Wargasm game, i suppouse that was the first game that connects RTS and FPS. It was produced in 1998!
Been wanting this genre to come back! Savage was really fun at LANs back in the day.
Savage 2 was the bomb
What nursing home do you live in?
@@mouthpiece200 in your momma's bedroom
@@mouthpiece200 haha only 36 man
Love the game from what i see. The industry needed a good Coop like this for a long time. I really wish this will become a populair thing!
Natural Selection 1 is up to this very day the best multiplayer game for me. I am really waiting for new good games in this genre for ages
Fucking FPS FOXHOLE???
Essentially Battlefield 2142 commander mode
Foxhole, but with fps and warthunder elements
The most impressive thing about this title is that for the first time first persone and commander are actually made both really well instead of just picking one of the two to focus on and going along
Reminds me of Urban Assault. Futuristic RTS - FPS hybrid that I played every weekend. Glad to see this video pop up in my home page
Super excited for this game, even for early access it’s showing a lot of potential, would love to see more as the updates roll out
This takes 'fun with friends' to a whole new level lmao great video Jack
I used to play Savage for a bit back in the late 00s and I remember thinking the FPS RTS concept was pretty cool. Nice to see something new coming out.
Super impressive from a technical standpoint hope this does well
This game looks so cool, love the FPS/RTS mixture
It’s looks really cool. There is another game like this that is in development it’s called: outpost infinity siege.
This game reminds me so heavily of Battlezone 2
The only issue I think there is with this genre is a lot of people will want to be a commander and not many will want to be boots on the ground. Otherwise, I think it is an amazing-looking game! I wish there were more games like this as I do think it is a golden opportunity for a big dev to make huge.
Hum the actual problem of this kind of game is usually to find a commander, most of the times nobody wants the responsability.
@@virgill2452 agree, NS2 also had a lack of commanders.
Oh I'm reverse. I love the fps stuff.
BF2142 had the same problem. Or worse, you join a game with a crap commander. It’s going to be even worse here where the commander really needs some rts creds to do a good job
No, this is perfect. You, an RTS player, get the game, then convince your call of duty friends to play with you
This looks AWESOME!
I'd always hoped Halo would make a game like that. Feels like a perfect match for them.
renegade, natural selection, Savage and Savage II, and technically battlefield 2 would fit
This game looks to be heavily, and I mean heavily inspired by Battlezone 2.
I had so much fun playing Natural Selection when I was younger.
Dystopia was so good.
I put hundreds of hours into both.
Dystopia was great, a 'Tron' like feel to it. FPS while two were in a 'matrix' jacked in per say hacking to help. Fun times 👌
@@Vhexen I didn't play Dystopia as much, but man the gameplay in that is super unique. Haven't played a game like it since.
Definitely going to pick this up sometime. I love gun vs bug games, especially when you combine RTS and FPS elements.
FINALLY
I used to play a game that was FPS and RTS tower defense but I havnt been able to find it in forever. This fills the gap, and it looks SO good.
For the love of god please let this not be a flop, there used to be a game like this that I played back in the day and it was epic.
Battleswarm: field of honor
Savage: Battle for Newerth
If you want a SP game that's FPS RTS, Warshift.
All of the Battlezone references take me way back!
The genre was so forgotten that it's amazing to see a game like this gaining prominence again.
One of my all time favorites of this genre was the Counter Strike mod "Empires" It was amazing. Later on the game Planetside used a similar formula, but Empires was so cool because it felt realisitc in its design, not necessarily futuristic like the Planetside series.
I've always wanted this exact type of game. An rts where you could zoom in and control an individual unit
You can play as aliens, humans vs aliens, vide versa and Human v human v alien.
Throw in a turn-based campaign map and this would be exactly the combo that I dreamed about as a kid
Not for me thanks.
my dream game that no one had ever developed consisted of:
RTS, FPS, base building, massive pvp & pve open world, three distinct races with different classes, vehicles, capturing territories, total war and a character customization progress system including items weapons you can grind out of your character.
this game is giving me tears and hope
C&C Renegade was amazing back in the day, so many dear memories playing it..
Ever since I bought halo wars thinking it was an fps I always wondered why games like this did not exist. Amazing
Im just so happy people are coming back to Natural Selection 2 because of it
The game is still very much alive and its so fun hearing ppl talk about it and start playing it again
Please come play with us
I remember my first time playing Savage and it was amazing! Would love to see this genre come back in full. Savage and it's sequal and Natural Selection and it's sequal are all I can really think of that had this sort of gameplay. I know there's been others (dirty bomb I think?) that took bits of the hybrid genre but not taking it to full RTS.
Savage and Savage 2. Those were the days... then i transitioned to HoN by the same company
Savage! I was dating a girl whose brother managed one of those nerdy card shops in the mall (and it had computers for rent). They bought a ton of copies of Savage at release... and literally no one ever played them. I bought one of them shortly thereafter for $5. It was a neat game.
@@88Xardas heroes of newerth was ok for what it was. But it wasn't in the same genre so didn't include it.
Wow I remember RTS games like Empire Earth, Warcraft II & Age of Empires really pulling me into gaming back in the day. This looks like a ton of satisfying gameplay.. I kinda hope they release this on consoles
Age of empires got a console port recently, it's super good!
@@Steven-rn1oo Isn't it only on Xbox & PC? I own a PS5 so I won't be able to play
Empire Earth was amazing. EE2 fully modded out was basically the ultimate historical RTS simulator
FINALLY! I have been waiting for more games like this
lol you guys made this look so much fun. Can’t wait to hear all the stories of all the people yelling at each other.
Need more videos of this with more of your crew, it looks like tons of fun with more people.
Would love to see more of this
OMG this looks AMAZING! Please do more content with this game!
I've been waiting for this kind of games for a really really long time, it seems extremely fascinating to me as a genre, I hope many more like this will be created
Check out Executive Assault 2
I’ve always liked games like this. I don’t know why there aren’t more of them.
One of my favorite games as a kid was Sanctum 2. It's a FPS Tower Defense game by the same studio that made Goat Simulator (but like, it's not a meme game like Goat Sim is XD). Great game, shame nobody plays it anymore. This video reminded me of it
C&C Renegade was so much fun. 64vs64 was insane.
I did think that Renegade's multiplayer held a lot of promise, and was hoping that it would become more popular. It's good to see it being revisited.
Renegade X is still a thing
@@kimberly4275 It's nowhere near as popular as to have a decent playerbase
@@domacleod yeah it's super niche but still playable
Might I recommend Executive Assault 2 as well?
Its a pretty damn impressive RTS/FPS combo as well - although it focuses mainly on spaceship combat. It does have ground combat as well though within the bases and stations themselves.
Finally a game like mount and blade but it's dune or starship troopers war.
Indie games are where it's at. This looks wonderful!
Same. Urban Assault was so good
@@Loll0saurus Amazing game. I spent the better part of a week getting it running (somehow) on my laptop.
It looks really good, would love to see you play the RTS mode
It's strange that not more games are doing this, since the RTS mechanic should in theory be able to accommodate for low player count.
You need to have a Commander that really knows how to build units and tech up for this game to play well with lots of players
@@cybertonto72 Not really. It's pretty straightforward if you watch the youtube videos on it.
@@Ricolaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I used to play Natural Selection years ago, and if you had a commander that didn't know what they where doing the game was very quickly lost. This is what I meant
@@cybertonto72 This game tries to solve this problem by allowing an AI to take the place of commander when no other player chooses to.
@@HowlingDoom that is a good upgrade from NS :)
I"m excited, I loved Natural Selection 2 and have been waiting for something similar.
This game should have huge potential to be great, especially if they allow mod support on the Steam Workshop. EDIT: The 40K Mods could be epic with a game built from the ground up with this type of gameplay in mind!!
Or Starship Troopers! 😉
Im so glad you found this! even with its flaws its super fun to play! its also very nostalgic for those who played this genre back in the day
I have been HUNGRY for this kind of game!
Yup. That was the original C&C from 1995.
Looks like it could be good, cool to see the harvesters path just as well as they did back in the C&C days. (what a way to go)
Similar concept to Battlezone (2 for me specifically) back in the day. That one, you built the base and such from a first person perspective which has a nice charm (until you built an uplink)
That was an outstanding game, but, games that straddle two genres together can struggle (commercially) because people who are hardcore into one, often don't like the other. I hope this fares well!
I dreamed for years for somebody to make star craft like game, where You can control individual units like in shooters.
I believe one of battlefield games had this concept, where one player was a general, and he was giving orders to squads etc.
But imagine how cool it would be, to relieve StarCraft missions as a hydralisk or a mamoth 😅
yeah, imagine the imp goon, or impossible ums maps in general from brood war in first person
This genre i can’t believe it actually died out a little. It was so good.
minecraft made a new game with this genre a minth ago, i am so happy it is comming back
You two are supes entertaining. The game looks sick. Part 2 plssss 🙏🏽
I always thought about this. Imagine a planetary war with real players controlling different roles like space command and on the ground FPS.
Planetside?
@@TimoRutanen planetside has no in game leadership
I never thought I would see a revival of this genre. I mean it's perfect for when you want to kill and not just watch them die.
