It's crazy that Ben and Matt wrote this movie when they were like 19 or 20 years old. Brilliant script!!!
I've watched this a dozen times and I still unpack tidbits from it every time. You're right BRILLIANT script.
remember a certain scene they wrote into the middle of the script to make sure whatever production company they'd go with ACTUALLY read the script.
It's impossible to think/write things like this at this young age. I'm sure that E.T. told them this story.
These are the kind of movies that people used to go to the theater to see. Before movies were all rollercoaster rides to justify the high cost of movie-going.
Fun fact, this isn’t true. Matt Damon was asked why movies like this weren’t made anymore (in a hot ones interview I think). It’s because studios were comfortable losing money in the box office on movies like this because they would make up for it on DVD sales/rentals. So streaming services are why less movies like this are in theaters now.
You are so right.
@@LJ101diehl
It's all of the above, no? Studios are simply so incredibly risk-averse now that we literally get nothing worth going to theaters for.
It's a mix, DVD/Physical got ruined by streaming. And the risk taking of a simple talkie movie got ruin by Marvel/Disney bullshit @@LJ101diehl
@@LJ101diehl Damn! Was that Hot Ones? That was a great interview.
Nice reaction to one of my favorite movies. Robin Williams's extraordinary performance won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
There’s an interesting detail, often overlooked, in Will’s first session with the doctor. He asks, "What do you bench?" and Sean answers, "285. What do you bench?” Will does not answer, because he realizes that Sean is stronger than him, and so he shifts the conversation to the painting.
very very sad R. Williams died by suicide😢
Another cool fact is that he could actually bench 285 at that time.
I suspected that, but wasn't entirely sure.@@SpadeD1omonds
"He met his match." TRUTH! 👍 Will met his match, and Sean also met his match.
GREAT reaction!
I think this may be your best reaction so far ladies. You were completely on the emotional wavelength of this wonderful movie throughout. This one seemed to strike a particular chord with you Jyn. And Ryl, you were putting your 'Shining' abilities to good use as usual. You have great chemistry together. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. 😀
One of my favorite’s of all time. It really shows how a single person can change your life. Both Will and Shawn affected each other immensely. The movie that put both Ben and Matt on the map. Great reaction ladies.
17:44 "he married the right woman, but maybe she died." -ryl
called it ✅
more proof of ryl's ability to read the room.
29:01 Watching the Ladies figure out Skylar's joke is nearly as funny as the joke itself. 🤣🤣🤣
35:45 One of the greatest monologues in Cinematic History.
41:41 This scene, every time...😭
Congatulations! You are the first reactors that knew why no one could lie and claim they solved the math problem. WOW! What a wonderful reaction. I've subscribed. Looking forward to more reactions.
Yes! Everyone else is like "How come the students can't claim it or the student should claim it" it's obvious the professor would ask for proof that they solved it.
One of the best movies ever and as usual you two get every bit of it. I've watched this movie a dozen times and still unpacking all the pieces. I just love your channel and love watching you grow, not just in your comfort in doing reactions, but seeing you grow as humans just from watching a movie. You're absolutely right, EVERYONE struggles with SOMETHING. Often way more than people are willing to admit even to those closest to them. We love you more and more with every reaction. Prayers that each of us can have a Sean in our lives! Grace and peace to you both and your families.
One of the best movies.
You two never fail to make my heart smile. 👍🏼
Noice! This is one of my all-time favourites movies, and cemented Matt Damon as one of my favourite actors. The rest of the cast is awesome as well, especially Robin Williams.
Hilarious, heart-warming, and heart-breaking, the Oscar Matt & Ben got for this was well-deserved.
"how do you tell yourself a different story" wow that's gonna stick with me a long time.
❤️❤️
24:28 There’s an incredible song about that kind of mentality: “Lighthouse” by Antje Duvekot. Lighthouse is from the perspective of a lighthouse standing in a desert that had once been an ocean. It’s sweet but heartbreaking.
It always reminds me of my grandma, Clarine Coffin Grenfell. She was a widow for nearly 25 years before she went to join my grandpa with the ancestors. I was with her the day before she died, and she knew her body was giving out, and I remember her looking up at the heavens and complaining, “Lord, why are you keeping me here? I’m ready! I want to be with You! I want to be with my husband! Please, Lord, call me home!” She died the next day, at the age of 93. In all the years without her husband, she never had any relationship with anyone else. My grandpa was amazing, and she missed him terribly every day. 💔
Can u believe these 2 dorks, Matt and Ben, started writing this in their early twenties, having no idea what or how to write! And someone they knew was blown away, and got a rough bit to robin! And how they got Robin and Stellen to do this, I'll never know! After Robin died, Matt goes back to the bench every year on Robin's bday, sometimes with his kids. The park bench is a memorial now! The younger guy is Casey Affleck! The red head is now in Yellowstone, Cole Hauser! A fantastic actor, but a bit of a loose cannon. His father was even a better actor, but certifiable! Wings Hauser!!
Originally, they didn't know how to write the end. Robin comes up with the final line, director and Matt look at each other like, Movie done! He add-libbed the wife farting lines. Matt is cracking up for real. Even the camera man was rolling....look at the camera frame on that scene, it's shaking!
Love this movie for different reasons. His mental condition, which affects his love life, Robin Williams character along with his actual life. Expectations, wants. Really great movie.
Alright, alright, i've previously seen some of your reactions, but those tears got me, i've now subscribed!
Girls, you did the best on this one. Really enjoyed your reaction and it felt like the movie really touched you the way it should. Congrats, good job and Merry Christmas, hope it's your best one ever.
I loved that car... "it's the ugliest car", "but the engine's good."
From the outside, looks bad. What you can't see is good/solid. Such a nice touch that I certainly didn't notice the first time I saw this... I just noticed the good friends.
I am so impressed by you guys...very astute and catching things in movies no one else catches...and I watch a lot of reactors...your are sharp, smart, and so much fun to spend time with for an old invalid who is mostly alone. Thanks!
You both are so insightful and understanding that people are who they are and the reasons for it. Awesome reaction.
Thank you ❤️
The Indian man they’re talking about at 15:30 ish is Ramanujan. A movie was made about him recently.
there are so many good scenes and dialog in this film...but if i had to pick just one...i think i pick the scene where Gerald Lambue and Sean Maguire (robbin) are arguing about Will and Sean says, "and why do you think he hangs out with those gorillas?" (talking about Wills friends) "because any one of them would take a f#$#' bat to your head if he asked them to...." It is such a fast line in the argument but it always hits me. Gerold may look down on Will's friends and think of them as "hooligans" or not very smart guys, but they are super loyal to Will (as seen in the fight when Will gets arrested) and good friends to him.
He wasn't being polite, he was being sarcastic. You say thank you like you say whatever to someone.
Robin Williams improvised many of these lines, to get a more pure reaction from Matt Damon, who co-wrote the script. Those moments end up being genius because Damon's character is very reserved, and hides his emotions. Portraying a reserved character who let's loose is pretty tough, especially for a young actor. Getting him to react naturally, made it much more real to the audience.
Of all the reactions to this movie... you ladies are the quickest to pick up on the unspoken nuance of this film. The best reaction I have witnessed on youtube this far. I am impressed with your ability to spot the emotional aspect of this story.
I've rarely got so much insight and afterthoughts than from you both. A pleasure to see your reactions.
You got a new subscriber.
Still a great movie after 20 plus years...
This was a great reaction video. Your analysis' as you were watching were incredibly spot on. Very fun to watch, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
"Give us a kiss" is British slang. Not sure where it came from, maybe give my body & soul a kiss? Maybe they're too humble to say "me?" I dunno, but I don't think it meant what you thought with the kids. The story was just a vulgar joke about a blowjob without teeth and semen, but told by a girl (oh, my!), meaning she's "one of the boys" -- a chick that can hang with your friends.
It is simply the "royal we," referring to oneself in the plural. It is common in the U.S. as well, especially by editors.
5:19 "he works there." -jynxryl
in unison. that's natural talent.
“He needs that” at the same time lol. Lord don’t we all need it
Man I miss Robin. What a wonderful human being he was. Love u guys ❤
I was impressed with your insight. Great reaction
I love you, Robin Williams.
Thank you for everything.
this movie makes me proud to live in Boston. such a beautiful city. people here are the soul of America
I love how Robin Williams went from calling Will Sport to calling him Son...
Really really loved this reaction. I forget which one of you said it, but your quote “How do you tell yourself a different story?” rang so true to me. Very insightful reaction ❤
I think it probably goes without saying that Ryl has a big heart, but I'll say it anyway because she really does. A big heart is mightier than the tallest mountain, and just as easily recognizable.
Incredible dialogue and acting, to this day "wow".
Wow, love your reaction and review on one of my fav movie ❤
It's so sad knowing most of these locations were long gone only a few years after this movie. Good Times (The batting cage scene) and the whole area is now a casino. The Baskin Robbin ice cream shop, 'You like apples?' is long gone. It was across the street from Harvard's campus.
Everyone forgets this wasn't only Matt and Ben's first movie but Casey Affleck's first movie.
Beautiful reaction you two....love your channel❤❤❤
Beautiful reactions!
one of my favorite films. very well written. hope you two enjoy. i look forward to the reaction
One of the best reactions to this movie! Thank you!❤
Awwww, I love how emotional y'all got at the end. One of my favorite movies. Great reaction.
Good one, Ladies! Both Matt & Ben were still pretty young when they got an Oscar nomination for their screenplay for this movie, so when when they went to the Oscar ceremony, they both took their mothers to the big show. And then they actually won! It was pretty cool. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
once again a good video from you!
Subscribed. I appreciate your insightful reactions.
You two really do this well. That was satisfying to watch.
Matt, Ben and Robin Williams all won Oscars for this movie !
Y'all are so fun. Cheers to you both.
Your reaction was insightful.
Great Reaction Ladies !!!
You guys are great!
Great reaction video ladies, GWH is a fantastic movie and my favorite Robin W movie, RIP.
It's well known than a few moments that made it in the movie were actually improvised, like Sean's wife farting stories or at the end when Sean says "SOB, he stole my line". Robin Williams was a very special person.
reading won't make a genius but all genius read.
i think a genius said that.
In some English speaking countries, mostly in Europe especially with older people, they refer to themselves as “us” for some reason. Never understood it but yeah, so like if I was saying “Give us the keys” I would really be saying, give me the keys. Also, great reaction, really enjoyed hearing you talk about the message of the film at the end!
You can hear that in New York as well. It probably stems from Europe.
@@realitycheck5376 oh I didn’t know that, makes sense. Been a long time since I’ve been to NY
@@MetastaticMaladies I actually grew up there I've heard it and probably said it myself. I think it's sort of putting someone on the spot ,pretending that many people are counting on that person to do a particular thing. That's sort of my take on it.
@@realitycheck5376 I've heard it in the U.S. "Well show us, then" like that putting someone on the spot, but I've always heard it used in Europe as a common way to refer to yourself. Mostly the UK, not sure if I've heard it in any other country though, maybe AUS.
@@MetastaticMaladies Yeah, you would hear it in New York. It was one of the first areas of English colonization and the cultural melting pot of the world for every nationality old and new.
My first time watching you ladies reaction. I loved your reactions to great movie
Everyone could use a Robin Willams therapist in there life….. lovelovelove ❤️✌🏻🧑🏼🎄
A truly fantastic movie
Loved your reaction.
Robert A. Heinlein defined love as, "That condition where another's happiness is essential to your own"
Chuckie demonstrates this at the end, with the little smile on his face; we "get" it after he explains to Will what the best part of his day is.
While he's sad for his own loss, Chuckie is happy, knowing that his friend, whom he loves, has gone on to pursue his happiness.
Will, who all his life felt he was unworthy of love; who didn't trust love; who felt he was unloved...
...was loved the whole time. He just couldn't see it past his fear.
I know just how he felt: It is hard when life shows you all it's hard reality when you are young, with no time to understand that there is also good in the world, after that all you see is what is negative, the positive becomes a lie.
Love you guys and I'm sure you have been through a lot also and have overcome. And people like that are my heroes! God Bless to all the decent and loving people out there!
I haven't even watched yet, and I know this reaction is going to be 🔥♥
Damn, without even watching it yet, you made my night!
These two are so cute and so beautiful
Robin Williams had so much more in life to give❤
Pushing the beef. 😂😂😂that made me laugh, I want to use that from now on. Dude, step away or I'll push the beef
great film always gets me teary eyed
The problem with too many geniuses is that they don't read enough, thinking they know it all. Genius is a gift; ignorance is a choice. Thank goodness he chose to follow through with counseling.
You two are great.
Omg yes! This gonna be good!
11:47 "he needs that." -jynxryl
damn!! 😄
Nice reaction. 😄
Robin Willams was one of the best…lovelovelove ❤️✌🏻🧑🏼🎄
You two are so beautiful and insightful. Love your reactions.
who gave a thumbs down show yourself. Loved this reaction big up yuhselves
Absolutely LOVED your insightful thoughts and comments during this reaction. You're both amazing. #Subscribed One of my favorite films and it gets to me every time.
Some other great films you'll love: "CHILDREN OF MEN," "GRAVITY," "ARRIVAL," "PLEASANTVILLE," and "AMELIE"... all of these films are magical with incredible story-telling, acting, cinematography, and effects. You'll never forget them once you've seen 'em. All the best... and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
"You've never held your best friends head in your lap, watching him gasp his last breaths looking to YOU for help..." I have now. almost two years ago. my father. pain does not serve unless you learn from it or at least not let it beat you down forever.
Gerry Lambeau cared about Will being a success, but he also wanted Will to stay there with him.
Gerry was very envious of Will's genius. He knew that he was not another Einstein, and then he met Will, who was another Einstein.
Sean wanted to help Will the man. Gerry wanted to help Will the math god.
I listened to the end, you're worth it.
thank you
Malcolm Gladwell, in one of his books, wrote about a large study of genius children from all economic levels. The result was the genius kids from poor families, did not excel and leave the ghettos. It turns out you need resources, such as tutoring and extra classes to stand out and above. The poor kids had the potential but no help from their families (no money) or their schools or communities. A few did make it out of the ghettos, but, statistically the number was and is zero. You need the resources of at least a middle class income and parents who care, to succeed. One example he give, was of a shy kid who stuttered and had difficulty talking to others, and he receive no help, was ignored but had one of the highest IQs ever recorded. He ended up grooming horses on a farm. A teacher telling him to stand up straight and look people in the eyes could have made a big difference. Count your blessings.
How can we not love these two little ladies ❤
Happy holidays to all.
when people from the uk say "us" in that context, it means "me".
The Beef was indeed pushed
Well done ladies. Great movie.
"Putting from the rough" 😂😂😂
12:46 "ha ha ha." -jynxryl
spot on 😆
Young Morgan is played by Ben Affleck’s real life brother, also a respected actor.
I believe there was a long pause when the news about Robin came out.
10:02 "he's a genius bad boy." -jyn
a double threat.
again girls, you two are adorable. tnx for the video.
God, I miss Robin Williams.....❤❤❤
Great movie reaction as always. I wonder if you'll fall in the Robin Williams rabbit hole of movies.
Him and Jim Carrey are the best comedians of all time
Thankyou, the smartest reaction I've ever seen. And a bonus to see it done by two stunningly beautiful women. I'll watch more...
