When i was 50 i lost my wife and home, we had no kids and i found our friends didn't become my friends when she was gone. At 60 i realised that i was going to waste away alone unless i made some significant changes. So as this video suggests i started running and doing gym workouts and swimming... something daily. I cut out all processed carbs from my diet and focus my spare time on helping out a few friends. It's been hard making these changes in my 60's but it seems to be all coming together. My biggest tip to anyone over 50 would be to do whatever you have to do to maintain your muscle mass.

PROTEIN and HEALTHY SATURATED FATS need to increase in the elderly.
      Carbohydrates are NOT required.
Then increase balance and strength to avoid falls.
Btw I have Chronic Fatigue and I'm clawing my way back to good health. While walking is out of the question, walking in a pool with a noodle isn't.

Good to hear. Another tip is to get an occasional sports massage, especially if there is stiff and aching torso. I accumulated loads of muscle knots around my upper back ( a career as a plant fitter) and a massage is the only way to rid of them and improves your posture too!

@@PerthSurfer Turns out that a problem I had/have with my shoulder turned out to be a blessing in disguise. A physiotherapist gave me five different exercises to do with dumbbells to strengthen the various muscles associated with the shoulder. I have since added five more exercises and now have a regular workout routine that I do several times a week. The blessing was in discovering that old codgers like me should be doing resistance/strength training to keep our muscle mass up to say nothing of maintaining general health.

@@Mike__G I'm really pleased that you've discovered the benefits of weight training. It'll make a huge difference to your health long term :) This should be taught in schools, not just weights but the other important variable and that's maintaining V02max or more simply put, doing cardio. The skill is learning how much of these we can do at our age to provide benefit without injuring ourselves :)

    1) Health: Exercise, Good diet, Good Sleep
    2) Finances: Saving, Investing, Compound Interest, Reduce Debt, Plan for health expenses, Insurance
    3) Purpose: a cause, learning a new skill, goals, service, stay engaged, explore, what brings you joy, what skills can you share
    4) Resilience: face loss, grief/gratitude, self compassion, self forgiveness, perspective, how can I grow? Surround yourself with good people
    5) Community: Quality over quantity, maintain good friends, Listen and invest in close friends, avoid toxic people, volunteer, Avoid loneliness, create a network of people who value you.
Creating and maintaining these five pillars is your responsibility.

Live life. We’ve all made mistakes in past. We’ve all made bad decisions. My advice would be to do the best for yourself today. Today is all we’ve got. If you get up tomorrow do the best then. No matter what age , even if you’ve made a mess before, still have hope.

As one of the founders of the seeds of change project on a big farm in Healer New Mexico, I started 35 years ago trying to create a live work situation with a group of people focused on adding value to the planet. That worked pretty well but the head of the project was sleeping with too many women so the project fell apartthat happened a few times in different attempts to create a business in a location with a group of people, but I’m still looking. It’s time.

Proudly say I have been doing all of these for quite a long time I think if you're an athlete you automatically place goals on health you have a belief in God a lot of us. Finances were usually always broke so we learn to invest and live cheaply. Resilience comes with injury and bouncing back. Friends family close acquaintances come from the people you used to compete against. But I think everybody could take advantage of all these things and almost every aspect of their lives that they've learned from other employees or whatever

I always lived by the concept of freedom and independence. I saved money and did extreme endurance sports for years. From the age of 50, I cycled 100km almost every day. I became physically and mentally stronger than ever before and, at 58, was at the peak of independence and strength. I was looking forward to continue cycling and traveling until old age. Then I was hit by a truck from behind, while cycling on a safe road, on a wide shoulder where the truck had no business being. Although the injuries were not life-threatening at all, it caused an avalanche of negative events and within one year, my independence and strength were completely gone. My life started to crumble and after a year, I feel like it's no longer worth living. Before, I felt like 25, and traveling and sports were my life, but since that accident I feel like 85, basically sitting at home and waiting to die. No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, it doesn't matter if fate has other plans.

It doesn’t matter what we do we can kick the can down the road for as long as we want, however if we live long enough the outcome will still be the same. Each individual have their own fate and we cannot change it. We don’t create circumstances, we react and respond to it.

To live a healthy and meaningful life, build and maintain these five key pillars: Health (exercise, healthy eating, quality sleep), Finance (saving, investing, managing expenses, insurance), Purpose (learning, setting goals, finding joy, sharing skills), Resilience (facing challenges, gratitude, self-growth, maintaining a positive perspective), and Community (nurturing meaningful relationships, listening, avoiding loneliness, creating a supportive network). Each person is responsible for establishing these foundations to live a happy and sustainable life

It would be nice to have a source for the content - a book? A commencement speech? Where and when. If it is AI-generated, okay, but disclose that the content was so generated, not just admit that "sound or visuals" were. This could be a passage from a real Peterson book, or it could be from a prompt to AI telling it to write in his voice, using ideas like his. It's important to be very open about this now.

Maybe not for me but it was for my late mother for 10 yrs until I couldn't take care of her any longer. I worked yrs as a caregiver to her. I finally wore out and broke down. Was it worth it ? You damn right it was. She was the best mother for 90 plus yrs. Life is tough I learned this as a kid. The answer is life goes quick and is a struggle for everyone. Lastly I agree with the late rabbi harold kushner God is not Santa Claus meaning people don't always get what they deserve. And God's power is limited on our physical world.
