What is the TCP/IP model? It's a model to standardise computer networking.
The OSI model, while widely referenced isn't used in the real world. The TCP/IP model, however, is the real deal. Thankfully, it's not all that different.
Here is the original TCP/IP model.
Application, Transport, Internet, and Link.
Just like the OSI model, it's numbered from the bottom up but the direction depends if you're sending or receiving traffic.
So this is the original TCP/IP model, but, it has been updated.
The link-layer has been split into Data Link and Physical
and the Internet Layer has been renamed the Network layer.
Layer 5: Application protocols such as HTTP, FTP, and SMTP
Layer 4: The two most common transport protocols are TCP and UDP.
Port numbers are also added here.
Layer 3: At the Network layer, we have the Internet Protocol or IP.
Routers also commonly operate at this layer
Layer 2: The data link layer contains Ethernet related protocols.
Switches usually operate at this layer. Although you can get layer 3 switches that have routing capabilities
Layer 1: Think of everything you can touch and feel here.
Things like cables, hubs and Network interface cards.

Why am I even paying for uni when these short videos help more than my hour long lectures with my lecturers boring monotone voice
Haha! Some say I have a boring monotone voice 😂 Glad there is someone out there with a more boring voice than me! Great to hear the videos are helping.
@@Certbros Sorry to say but you do have a boring monotone voice. But your videos are great anyway because you really, REALLY know how to present and explain ideas very well and simply. You've got a new subscriber and, even though I'm not the least bit interested in the CCNA course or even the CCNA cert itself, I'm buying your course when it's out.
Exactly 💯
My thoughts exactly lol
I learnt more here than reading a full long page of info, thanks dude
Glad to help. Thanks man!
Lool foreal
Agreed
@@Certbros why they wan to ban internet T_T in to just network.
Original Model of TCP/IP:
Application
Transport
Internet
Network access
Updated model:
Application
Transport
Internet
Data Link
Physical
Can you please clarify? as this will easily confuse people. Your Diagram says different
"Network" was never part of the updated model of TCP/IP right?
and "Network Access" is part of the original model.
I am getting ready for an exam and you have made it so simple to comprehend. Showing video explanations is better than simply reading a book. Don't you all agree with me?
Good luck bro!
The best part of this channel is that it makes me want to study willingly and not because I should
this video made me learn something i spend 3 years at university and never really understood all the bullshit our professors was explaining. Thank you guys. keep it up
Thanks! Great to hear you finally got it after watching this 👌
@@Certbros The video is good. But if you could do a video clarifying why many websites on Google list NICs at Layer 2.
I hear the Network+ exam expects people to answer layer 2, even though it has a physical component. Does the CCNA expect layer 2 as well?
I don't think u can blame your professor for that, it's highly likely u were not interested to learn at that time ..but now u r which is great 👍
That's because your professors didn't understand it.
@@AnilSharma-pl6cw I'd say it depends on the professor, some you can definetly blame I mean I had a professor that provided machines for everyone to work on during online class because of the pandemic and then I had one that used a 2007 powerpoint and read of it to teach, some professors see the job has building the future of ones country and some see the job has a paycheck at the end of the month. (the machines provided weren't physical the professor had a server of his own on which he created several virtual machines for each student because some students didn't have the means to have online classes).
He made it soooo simple. I became glued to the screen because he was killing it; thank you.
Got my CCNA exam exactly a week from tomorrow. Already been thru a CCNA learning course. However, watching the entire CertBros CCNA Playlist of 31 vids all in a row as a speed review. May go thru it again one more time before next weekend is over and my exam on next Monday. The vids are so well explained and luv it.
how'd it go
Wonderfully done! The diagram helped explain how and what happens at each layer. Previously I didn’t understand but you guys made it clear as day! Definitely tuning in for more
Thank you Veilent! really glad you liked the video. Welcome to the channel 🎉
So glad you’re back I love you’re work keep it up !!
Thank you! Will do!
Your teaching style is music to my ears. Thank you
I learned some new features of the tcp/ip model so thank you:
- There was a 4 layer tcp/ip protocol where the phisical layer and data link layer was a link layer and the name of networking layer was ethernet layer.
- The idea of 2 sides encapsulation in the link data layer is that the head part contains important staff like mac addresses and the tail contains some error checking data.
- Great diagrams to easy learning
- Super useful information
Keep going
ok
The "internet " not the "Ethernet" thank you 😊
More than wonderful explanation ... I hope with all my heart that you will continue to publish more of this high-quality content ... I follow and support you from Algeria
Thank you so much for the clear understanding, starting to further my IT career and I have to say there's a lot of abbreviations to learn.

I Love the layer table at the end ! Very clear ! Thank you so much ! Best video out there !
its not a table it is a png of words and constructs that humanity has developed that will ultimately lead to the spread of this comment making its way to youtubes end device I am trolling you using the OSI model get rekt
