I love the non-locking version because it's super fidgety and great for light edc tasks like opening boxes or cutting up an apple, but this is great for those who need the locking mechanism for some security in during tougher edc tasks.
I really like the look of this knife but wish they had given it a better pocket clip, it deserves something nicer. Also, not really a "front flipper", it's a "top flipper". I sure wish Buck had done this for a 110/112/etc. instead of the Sprint. A nice design well executed. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review Wayne, I've been checking the channel daily for this video. The first and only slip joint I've carried was the Rustic Gent, I had to own it bc I was so into the look of not only the blade but the carbon fiber bolster/micarta handle. The second I took that out of the box almost a year ago I immediately said they would make a killing if it was a liner lock instead. I was pretty disappointed when I found out the first Appalachian Drifter was a double detent. But I digress, awesome review man. Keep up the good work 👏
Yes finally they made this in a locking version! Just what I wanted. I agree with the handle options, I hope more comes out. Probably will because I think it will be popular.
Mine is on its way. Bought the dark brown one. Love that blade shape and overall looks. Been asking for this review and happy how it came out! Thanks good sir!
Yeah I like WE/Civivi's damascus, but I like it shiny, not the blackened as much. S35VN is like a dream 'midrange' steel, I'm pumped it's been more and more available vs the handful of old choices for
Picked this up from Knife Center the other day in that same configuration, great little knife, not sure if the fuller is really necessary to spydie flick, the hollow grind is deep enough that you can just use the plunge of the grind coming from the flat to flick on out
I love my Damascus slip joint version… I really like this front flipper version, but I wish the back wasn’t open..,. I love when they fill it in with a full back spacer! Looks so much better in my opinion!
Wayne, quick question for you sir! I like this Appalachian drifter, but I also like the Pena' x series exclusive from BHQ that's out right now. So, my question is do the feel the same or is the x raptor sway back a better option even considering the high price. Also, do you think the Pena' is overpriced at $274? Bholer m390 as well. Basically i wanna see if i should save the cash and get the civivi. Thanks
Personally, I can’t speak on behalf of the Swayback, but I do have the Barlow and Apache and they are both absolutely better than the AD2. I do like the fact that the blade is a little bigger on the AD2 though, and the action is still great on it, just not the same as the Pena line.
I like pretty much everything about the knife, except for the flipper. It might just be my OCD, but I don’t like how the flipper tab arcs around the top and then comes to a sudden stop. Would like to have seen it something like the Lumi or Spyderco ikuchi. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work.
I’ve got the other back lock ones a few diff versions don’t care for slips at allllll maybe if they had half stops but nah… so I have the red damascus coming in tomorrow and I have this one coming next week.. it’s my fav knife design right now
Mine was delivered today. The first thing I did was Dremel out the notch for the lock to make it easier to get to. I think it's better with the notch cut out. I assumed it was a mistake in the manufacturing process that it wasn't cut out to begin with. It was a bit stiff at first, but when I took it apart to fix the notch I oiled it, and now it's really smooth. For me, the detent seems tuned very well. It feels a tiny bit better than my Pena X. Overall, I'm really happy with it.
Looking good. But I don't think it'll replace my first gen, I just prefer a double detent knife in that size, especially with that weird front flipper on the second gen. The dark blade on the "old" one looks a lot better too, even with some wear.
I like mine. But I opened and closed it for two days and could not get it to flip open with the tab. It was waaaaay too stiff. I finally had to take it apart and bend the lockbar back so it wasn't putting so much pressure on the detent. If you do this, you can only bend it a little bit. The lock up is already at 50 percent and the bar seems to get to the end of its travel to lock it. So if you bend it back too much, the blade will wobble. My opinion is; The lock bar material is too stiff, or should have had a relief cut in it to make the spring lighter and with the factory lockup being at the end of the lockbar travel right out of the box, I'm worried the blade will loosen up as it gets older. I guess we'll see.
Hey Wayne! Hope you are well brother. I recently learned about this knife and put it into my cart for a future purchase. I can honestly say that in the past I had lost faith in the Civivi co because I had bought 3 different models and when it came to sharpening became an impossible task. Why? Because of that darn D2 steel which I honestly dislike. Having said that recently came across the Civivi Pintail and after that this model the Appalachian! Hey for under 100 bucks you can add some premium steel knives to your collection. Speaking of the slight handle turn, the Pintail has one which is comfortable in my medium sized hand. To be honest Civivi has a great designer when it comes to models like the Dogma, Ripple etc are great looking but the steel I had to pass on. So now that Civivi has upgraded to S35vn they will have great sales. If somehow they can recreate the other models with better steels the company can go at it with any other competitor.
I'm watching this video for the knife... But I actually have some questions about your ring haha. I'm getting married later this year, my fiancee already has her ring, but westill need to get one for me and I'm having a hard time finding one I like. Yours looks pretty neat, though. What's the make/model of your ring? What materials are in it? Where'd you get it? Any info would be great! Thanks in advance! ☺️
The materials are actually titanium and marbled carbon fiber. I actually had Two Sun make it! Lol jk! 😂😂 I don’t remember the maker, but I know they’re based in Utah. I’ll find the website and link it here. 👊🏼
Hey JR, here’s the link to the company where I got my ring… www.lashbrookdesigns.com They’re a great company and allow you to fully customize your ring! Very cool and pretty affordable. Congrats on your engagement, bro!
How about the review of the Pintail? Plz. Thank you! One thing my knife brothers and sisters I can't comprehend why most companies go smaller instead of BIGGER? EXAMPLE THE WE BANTER, WHAT A GREAT KNIFE HOWCOME THEY WENT SMALLER BEATS ME UP. WHY NOT THE SUPER BANTER? DOES ANYONE AGREE?
They came out with a budget version of the Kizer Genie front flipper. You should check that out. I can’t afford one freaking knife, but I’ve always liked the Genie… Also, that’s super weird about the jimping, the Stylum has super aggressive jimping.
Posted my review yesterday featuring representation of all gens of this profile. I went with the brown/black micarta S35vn version and really like it. I didn't think the CF composites worked for this more traditional design. Now I am waiting for a 3.5"-3.6" blade version.
The one I reviewed is S35VN. The Nitro-V version was a separate run. They are available in both steels, which I agree is a bit weird, especially given the very narrow price difference.
Yes I'm one of those who wanted to see this vid
Same.
Count me in
It's funny how tastes change. A year ago I had absolutely no interest in this knife, now I'm in love with it.!
I love these classic looking knives. Civivi is making waves this year.
How the rustic gent/Appalachian should have first came out! Love mine. I hope they come out with other scale options.
I love the non-locking version because it's super fidgety and great for light edc tasks like opening boxes or cutting up an apple, but this is great for those who need the locking mechanism for some security in during tougher edc tasks.
Definitely getin one !!
I already have one of the 1st version's and its turned out to be a knife I carry alot !
This is on my list now. I love the retro look. Thanks for the review!

Nice looking knife Wayne! Civivi’s hit another home run. The micarta looks sweet!

That micarta reminds me of the micarta on the QSP GANNET. I love that.
Just picked up the purple nitro V version for 35 bucks on a discontinued sale. Pretty excited for it.
Nice! 👊🏼🔥

I always was drawn to this knife just a great looking little knife.
Wish this one was on p.b. washers to keep the hard working knife theme

What kind of mini crooked river is this civivi
Rounded front flipper tab, CF, Micarta, S35VN, under a bill? Interesting for sure

After watching your review I feel like I'm made a mistake in getting the one in Damascus 🤦🏾♂️
Love the smaller size, material and blade shape. Not feeling the two tone color choices they went with though.
Can we get Waynes Sharp World shirts with the phrase "reacharound approved" on the back?
Oh gawd! 😂😂😂 …I’ll think about it. 🤣😂🤣

This is nice, always wanted a McKenna but no much for front flipper. Can you do the reach over flip?
Reach-around approved, my friend!
@@WaynesSharpWorld thanks Wayne, you're so good to respond.
I like this one so much more than the first version. I’d probably buy one except that the clip isn’t ambi
I saw that the first version was a "double detent". Was it mainly that lock style that was disagreeable? I'm wondering how a double detent feels

Yea I don’t like D2 either.
Sounds like you don’t know how to sharpen in general

@@WaynesSharpWorld nice! I freaking want one man. I miss my knives. Lol
will have mine on Friday
Now that, my friend, is a sexy knife.
👌🏼👌🏼🔥🔥🔥
The Dogma, the Ortis, the Rustic Gent, the Appalachian Drifter, the Appalachian Drifter 2- how many times is Civivi gonna try to sell us this design?
What about the Badlands Vagabond?
Also this beautiful neutral handle profile keeps getting used because it works and it's awesome
I feel like the Dogma and Ortis are separate from the other two.

What does it cost? Why is it better than the 1 (one) version?
$93.50 and I like the front flipper on this one better than the slip joint on the original.

Love the liner lock. Hate the front flipper.
Any half stop
Nope, it’s on bearings. 🔥🔥
جميله وسعرها جيد مقارنة بالمزايا اللي تحصل عليها ، شكرا لك على المقارنه ،، استمر 👍
Thanks bro! 👊🏼
I'm a fan of the drifter, but I agree with Wayne. Not a fan of the scale options they released v2 with. Nothing impressed me.
How did they manage to make the V2 worse than the V1? The first one was S35VN and this one is Nitro-V.

This is like a cheap version of a Pena Xseries!
And it's real carbon fiber 😌
