Public transport in Sydney is excellent (certainly by US standards). Rather than doing expensive tours, just jump on a ferry. You can get an Opal Card that works on all types of transport, with charges capped at about $18 (US$12) a day, no matter how much you travel. You can also use most credit cards if you prefer (with the same price caps). Best ferry rides are to Manly and to Parramatta. Trains, metro, light rail and buses can take you everywhere, and it is frequent, clean and safe.
We live in Sydney & love it. The good thing about a cruise is that you see so many different places & you get so many good ideas about where you would like to come back to & spend a bit more time than just a day. Yes, it's a long flight to Australia. We did 15 1/2 hours direct from Sydney to Dallas on our way to a Caribbean cruise, home via LA & Hawaii
I'm so sorry I missed you... I would have gone to Circular Quay, to try to spot you, if I'd known the ship was docking there later in the day. I'm in the lucky country ... I live in a government apartment 400 metres from the harbour, on the north side, near Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's expensive 🤣... $130 per week (U.S.$87). Come back again soon .... I'll shout you a beer 🍺
Those birds you mention at the beginning can be called Ibis, but their technical name is Bin Chickens. Later on, you talk of commuting by the ferry. For quite a while, we lived in a suburb on the northern shore of the Harbour and took the ferry to and from work. A pleasant trip in most mornings, but the real pleasure was catching the ferry home in the evening. No matter how hard the day had been, after the 20 minute trip home, work could have been a thousand miles away. By far the most relaxing and pleasant way to commute I know of.
Thanks for sharing that bit of local lingo; it definitely adds character to the story. And your description of commuting by ferry paints such a serene picture. It sounds like the perfect way to start and end the workday.
@@bztravel It was. We then moved 20 or so km north, and thereafter commuted by train. We could perhaps have retired to the same harbourside suburb, but didn't. One thing that was pretty constant was having a short walk to both ferry and train.
Great video. Sydney has so much to offer. Some other areas worth visiting are 'The Rocks' (historical area with great old buildings), Taronga Park Zoo, a short ferry ride from Circular Quay, the Sydney beaches, and the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.
Wow! Sydney looks like such a beautiful city! I’m watching from the United Kingdom. It’s quite wet and grey here at the moment so it’s lovely to see the pretty blue skies and sunshine in the Southern Hemisphere. I love your videos. Thankyou for sharing your adventure! 😘👍
Hello from the sunny side of the globe! Especially when the UK decides to be all moody and grey. Sydney indeed welcomed us with open arms and a bright smile!
Ah my mate Syd - I love the place - I spent a year there (I'm from England, and am currently just outside London, where it's grey, cold and tipping it down with rain...). So glad you had a nice day for your visit - but a day isn't long enough there - you need a week at least. I think you made a great choce to have dinner on the ship - and then I hope a sundowner on the terrace watching the ship leave port with a nice nightcap. I used to love watching the cruise ships come in - I got great shots of the QE2 - what a massive ship - she dwarfed the buildings there. Looking forward to the rest of Australia!
It sounds like you've got some fantastic memories of Sydney. 🌞🇦🇺 Spending a year there must have been an incredible experience. We totally agree, a day is hardly enough to scratch the surface of such a vibrant city. There's just so much to see and do! We're so excited to explore more of Australia.
Watching from a tiny town in rural Indiana. My dream is to do a trip like this with my grown sons. I especially enjoy your laid back style and the way you explore each city on your own. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
Those birds at the start of your video are Ibis, otherwise known as “Bin Chickens” they are just scavenger birds 😂 im watching from Melbourne, Australia. We just got back from a RC cruise from Brisbane to Cairns, was lovely :)
Gday from Aussies’s capital which is 3 hrs drive south of Sydney. I use to think Melbourne was the best city in Oz but when we took the kids on a ferry to Toronga Zoo my mind changed completely. Next time you should climb the bridge - it’s not hard or scary at all. Hoo roo, mate!
I would absolutely love to go back to Sydney. In 2001 we spent a month in Australia. Tressa, that wasn't exactly like the Lost Roo where all of used to gather!
We were incredibly surprised how much we enjoyed Sydney. We kept finding more interesting things to see there and ended up walking 20,000 steps. Personal best so far this trip. Loved it! I miss the Lost Roo fish tacos!!
My husband and I are watching from Piney Flats, TN. We absolutely love your videos! so very well done and very interesting! Have been following since the start of your world cruise. Thank you so much!! Be safe!
🌞 Sounds like you've been on quite the adventure yourself! Sydney is indeed a magical place. We're glad our content resonates with fellow travelers like you. Keep adventuring and stay awesome!
I'm watching from Miami, Florida. I was in Bayside as your ship sailed away. I hope you enjoyed my city for a short time. I'm delighted with your candor and great way you introduce a new port of call. The videos are outstanding.
Hello Miami! 🌴 How thrilling to know you were in Bayside as we sailed away. Did you see me waving to you from the top deck of the ship? We will be back to Miami at the end of the cruise December 10th. Your city is a gem!
I think I gasped when I saw the Opera House, so iconic. Can you go inside for a tour? Don't blame the both of why, spend money off ship when you can have a nice dinner on.
Yes, you can indeed tour the inside of the Opera House. They offer a variety of tours. Either way, whether it's a fancy dinner onboard or a foodie expedition ashore, it's all part of the great cruise experience.
Really enjoyed your video, I have lived in Sydney for 20 years, it’s a vibrant, fantastic city. Incidentally, you don’t have to get an opal card, the gates will open using a credit/ debit card as well, happy trails to you both xxx

Really enjoying your videos! We have friends on that cruise (we get to keep an eye on their house here in Florida) but you do so many more things on the ports than we get to see from their couple of pictures each time. It gives us a much better look into the different places you stop at. Looking forward to watching the next 6 months!
Well done...really enjoyed that. Been to Sydney a couple of times by ship so it was nice to see it all again. On a side note. I have never seen Baby Back Ribs on the menu before with RCL. Michael and Nina from Toronto, we will be joining the ship in Singapore.
Michael and Nina from Toronto, thanks for the love! Exciting to hear you'll be joining the ship in Singapore! We look forward to crossing our paths and sharing the adventure.
Love following your travels. Had a cruise end in Sydney in 2014 and did the all day ferry pass. It was great but we went the day after our cruise docked and went early in the am to catch the first ferry. I think timing is everything.
Catching that early ferry sounds like a pro move! 🚤✨ We'll definitely keep that in mind for our next visit. Sydney really is a gem that keeps on giving, isn't it? Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us!
Hey Newcastle! 🌊 It's fantastic to hear you're enjoying the adventure with us, especially since we just waved goodbye to your beautiful city two days ago. Our next video will actually spotlight Newcastle. Thanks for joining us!
The bridge climb is not as difficult as one imagines. They have many stops along the walk up for people to just catch their breath and take in the views. The oldest person I believe who did it was in their 90s? it can be pricey though but u can just walk across it for free. also u can walk up to the pylons which has 200 steps . I believe there's a small charge to view from there . Well anyway thanx for sharing and safe and happy travels. Cruising is really the best way to see the world. U dont need to pack and unpack all the time , or hire a car. It's like taking your own home with u when travelling with the convenience of a resort ! haha
Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips about the bridge. Nothing beats the feeling of exploring new destinations while having your cozy, familiar space waiting for you at the end of each day. Plus, the whole no packing and unpacking deal? Priceless. Thanks again for the insight and encouragement.

Hi there! 🌷 It's fantastic to have you with us on this journey, especially from the beautiful Netherlands. I am 50% Dutch, Amsterdam and the Netherlands are my favorite, We have been there many times and we love it.

Hey there, Panama City Beach! 🏖️ Sunshine and white sandy beaches - you're living the dream! Thanks for the love and for joining us from such a beautiful part of the world.
Really enjoying following you on your travels, especially when you visit somewhere we have also been. Wishing you smooth sailing from Solihull (near Birmingham, England).
Hi guys , been watching ye from day one from Ireland ☘️🍻😊.. we love cruising too and would have loved to have been able to have done your cruise but work got in our way but hopefully sometime.. Enjoy
To add - we agree with your decision not to do the Bridge climb. For us, it's a very expensive way to get a bit of exercise. No doubt the views are great, but you can walk across at road level free - one side as you walk north, the other on the way back. Others may think differently.
Absolutely, opting out of the Bridge climb felt like the right decision for us, especially considering I had knee surgery before the cruise, making such a climb more challenging than it would be worth.
I really enjoy your Round World Cruise taking me to places and countries that I never dream about. Thank you for the privilege to travel with you. Can you let me know a round about number for the cost of your extended cruise, including all the essentials and excursions (like $xxxk) and may be the name of the cruise company?
We're so glad you're enjoying the journey with us! When it comes to the cost of an extended world cruise, it can vary widely based on the cruise line, the type of accommodation you choose, and the excursions you decide to go on. Prices and packages differ, so we recommend checking out their websites or contacting them directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
It really depends on the destination and what is offered to see there. We like both. Generally cruise ship day visits don't give enough time to really get out and experience nature.
The Queen Victoria Building has a time capsule that contains a letter from Queen Elizabeth II written in 1986 to the people of Sydney. The Queen is the only person who knows the contents of the letter and advised the Sydney Lord Mayor that it is not to be opened until 2085.
Yes so sorry you had that experience. If you ever do come back here is the link - on Friday-Sun you can hop on and off all transport including ferries and it caps out at $8.90 a day. You can go into the Opera house foyer for free and the tour of the performance areas is very interesting. ( Tours cost but going into the foyer doesn’t ). I’ve sung there twice ! Awesome experience. Enjoy your cruise .
Wow, what a beautiful international blend! 🌍💕 Danish, living in Sweden, with a Croatian heartthrob by your side - that's the spirit of adventure we adore! We're so glad you're enjoying the journey.
Manly is definitely on the list for next time! There’s only so much you can squeeze into a short visit, but we’re already planning to come back and explore more. Sydney has so much to offer, and we can’t wait to dive deeper into it. Thanks for the tip, and stay tuned for our return!

Hello Ireland! ☘️🍻Work may have gotten in the way this time, but we hope that you'll get to embark on a journey like this someday soon.
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing them !
Thanks for watching!
Love your hat!
Thanks a bunch! 🎩
Love your vlog.❤
Your comment motivates to keep making videos! Thanks for watching.
Thanks
Thank You!!! That was the first one for us! Today in Airlie Beach I may have a drink. Cheers and thanks again!
Enjoy! You have brought me so much joy every video! 👍👍
@@bztravel Understood. Walking across the Bridge does require a decent climb no matter which end you start at.
You can exercise on the ship. Not while touring in the hot sun.
Wonderful video! Just curious if you guys would rather tour the city then go to a nature area?
It really depends on the destination and what is offered to see there. We like both. Generally cruise ship day visits don't give enough time to really get out and experience nature.
Watching from Australia. So sad you not get to Melbourne. Beats Sydney …..
We heard that about Melbourne from a few of our followers. We'll make sure to come back and see your beautiful city!
We call the black and white ibis bird a bin chicken . See if you can guess why
The Queen Victoria Building has a time capsule that contains a letter from Queen Elizabeth II written in 1986 to the people of Sydney.
The Queen is the only person who knows the contents of the letter and advised the Sydney Lord Mayor that it is not to be opened until 2085.
Which cruise line is this ?
Royal Caribbean, Ultimate World Cruise on the Serenade of the Seas
Glad you got a refund. The regular public transport ferries go to all the same places, run frequently all day, and the most you pay all day is $17.
Great tip! 👍
Melbourne is poised to overtake Sydney as the largest city in Oz - and by some measurements did so several years ago.
Were there any homeless around?
Hiding somewhere.
No zoos?? I wanted to see a Koala.
Koalas coming up in the Brisbane video.
I looove to follow you and Zarko around the world!
I'm Danish🇩🇰, living in Sweden🇸🇪(15min from Denmark) with my croatian boyfriend 🇭🇷

Should of gone to manly
Manly is definitely on the list for next time! There’s only so much you can squeeze into a short visit, but we’re already planning to come back and explore more. Sydney has so much to offer, and we can’t wait to dive deeper into it. Thanks for the tip, and stay tuned for our return!
