Not only does having multiple partners increase your risk, being in Atlanta increases your risk. It's the "gayest" city in USA(per capita, atleast 12.8% of Atlanta) which means there's a significant possibility that your partner is atleast bisexual. HIV rates in gay/bi men are higher than in all other groups and gay/bi women have are unlikely to have safe sex. Also, the cities of Atlanta, Savannah, and Augusta GA placed in the top 25 STD rates in the country. So having multiple partners in Atlanta probably triples your risk, not the best dating pool.

I think some ppl may be judging her on the fact that she's telling her story yet making sure that the person's name doesn't come out. There are other women out there that are probably with this guy and they don't even know this guy has HIV, and if he's not taking care of himself by taking his meds he probably has full blown AIDS today. While I think it’s wonderful you and your partners go test together (as it should be), I personally wouldn’t go on a 3rd date, and it says nothing more about me than the fact I have white coat syndrome. I’ve never had an STD, and yes, I’ve been tested more than once. I take offense to your comment about keeping our legs closed. Not sure why you feel the need to victim-blame, and if you want to bash someone, it should be the man who maliciously infected her. You might not have meant for your comment to come across this way, but it does. Sex is not immoral; intentionally infecting someone with an incurable disease, on the other hand, is immoral. I do think people need to take personal responsibility with their health, and I agree she did not. But sadly, there are women all over the internet who marry someone who’s HIV negative, and then find out at a prenatal appointment a few years later that their spouse cheated and infected them with HIV. I had a baby last year and joined a group on www.babycenter.com, and because I watch these videos and read, it was very upsetting to see the number of women who rejected HIV tests because they “knew” they were negative, “trusted” their husband, and “knew” it couldn’t happen to them. Regardless of how much I trust my husband, I got the damn test because it can and does happen, and I wasn’t putting my baby at risk. Thinking it can’t happen is one of the worst attitudes to have when it comes to HIV.

In the end she married a great guy and had three healthy children. Basically God still blessed her with a beautiful family regardless because she’s a beautiful person and it comes across in her interview. Thank God her diagnosis didn’t ruin her.
So from I read there’s a pill out that prevents transmission and I also know ppl that have hiv and have kids and partners that are all negative so there’s a way

This is like a Shakespearean Tragedy. It's just so sad. Her youth, naivety and trust in men caused her a lot of pain. The saddest was the guy that landed her where she is with a lifelong and potentially life threatening sentence. But she's no longer a victim. She's moved successfully forward with her life and has found what appears is a loving partner and family. However, the guy that knowingly gave her HIV, I can guarantee you this dude has given to other women. That's what's so horrifying. It's great that she thinks he's not a bad person. But he is! The only difference is that he's using HIV instead of a gun...to kill. She had a responsibility to not be an accomplice to this kind of crime. She should have reported him to authorities for knowingly giving her this disease. But she didn't. So now other women that has had unprotected sex with him and other men...might be suffering the same fate as her. This is one of the main reason why HIV and AIDS run rampant in our Black communities. When my husband and I started dating we both got tested for everything and we shared the result. If someone gets offended when you ask them to take a HIV and STD test, it's time for you to move on. Many people know that they have something and they don't tell their partner.
For real me and my partner did the same because we are a gay couple and I don’t want to judge my own community but I didn’t want to become a statistic and even when I go to doctors or I have a cough that’s the first thing they ask and I feel it’s because of my sexuality or maybe it’s just standard questions but I feel very proud because that could of been me as well because I’ve had unprotected sex before but I thank god he has protected me and I’m not a statistic , don’t get me wrong I always been in long term relationships I was never the type to run the streets but still it could happen even in a relationship so I am so thankful that I didn’t become a statistic but the fight is never over and it’s always important to protect yourself , and more straight people need to see this video because they think it’s only gay people.

A few years later he returned with HIV, and she never stayed with him emotionally but she took care of him until he died. I have to say she was really brave because when he got HIV is was 1985 and we didn't really understand what HIV was. I was around 5 years old, it was really scary to see someone died from HIV right before your eyes.

18 yrs ago. When I had my husband go and get tested,prior to beginning an intimate relationship, people stated, "Oh hell! Are you serious? You're not going have a boyfriend after that". I was like....Oh well. Negative on all tests, but it was my peace of mind. I believe a physical test and not words is critical. Anyone can lie. Thanks for educating young women.
Blessings to you sis. I work in Chicago at a Specialty Pharmacy that caters to the HIV community. We now carry the injections for treatment as well as prep injections where you only inject once monthly for the first 2 months and then bimonthly thereafter. And yes the foundations and copay cards are life saving. My patients pay no copays at all. I love that God still gave you the desires of your heart in the midst of the storm that turned out sunny. Continue to advocate and I’ll do the same.

Every year I go see my PCP and he ALWAYS offers me a HIV test. And I always get one. I get my STD test every year at my GYNO. I'm married, but I put nothing pass anyone. Stay safe and smart ladies.

Also, the cities of Atlanta, Savannah, and Augusta GA placed in the top 25 STD rates in the country. So having multiple partners in Atlanta probably triples your risk, not the best dating pool.

While I think it’s wonderful you and your partners go test together (as it should be), I personally wouldn’t go on a 3rd date, and it says nothing more about me than the fact I have white coat syndrome. I’ve never had an STD, and yes, I’ve been tested more than once.

I do think people need to take personal responsibility with their health, and I agree she did not. This is like a Shakespearean Tragedy. It's just so sad. Her youth, naivety and trust in men caused her a lot of pain. The saddest was the guy that landed her where she is with a lifelong and potentially life threatening sentence. But she's no longer a victim. She's moved successfully forward with her life and has found what appears is a loving partner and family. However, the guy that knowingly gave her HIV, I can guarantee you this dude has given to other women. That's what's so horrifying. It's great that she thinks he's not a bad person. But he is! The only difference is that he's using HIV instead of a gun...to kill. She had a responsibility to not be an accomplice to this kind of crime. She should have reported him to authorities for knowingly giving her this disease. But she didn't. I was around 5 years old, it was really scary to see someone died from HIV right before your eyes.

We now carry the injections for treatment as well as prep injections where you only inject once monthly for the first 2 months and then bimonthly thereafter. there's another lesson alot of people are overlooking and I gotta be honest and point it out. Don't go chasing the fast lifestyle, the grass isn't always greener. She went to Atl and got turned out by the party life like many do, and it backfired. This is not saying she is a bad person, but you gotta be honest with yourself about your life choices and the consequences of your actions. I had to learn myself, luckily it wasn't as unfortunate. I wish her the best, and hopefully young females watching this video will take good life lessons from it

I feel bad for her because she was 22. When I was 22 I was and young and dumb. We can easily point out all the many ways she could've or should've handled this but we got to remember, she's telling this story from the mind of 22 year old. This could be anybody. Smh.

@SpankBuda what woman hurt you? Your response sound so bitter. I don't care if you're 22 or 42, man or woman, you can easily be in this situation. She literally was in a relationship having unprotected sex like MOST couples today. There are so many people cohabiting and not using condoms. The difference is her man was HIV positive and had been for a while. Her staying after the fact was her biggest mistake but that was low-self esteem on her part. It's not an excuse is just a fact. She stayed in that relationship because she thought in her mind that was the best thing to do. There are many women, BLACK AND WHITE, who are staying in relationships because of low self esteem. People stay in bad situations usually because they don't think they can do better. Growth and maturity changes your thinking on these situations. When you know better you do better. She was young and dumb like so many other people. But she did well for herself after the fact. It saddens me that we have no empathy for people anymore. And miss me with the whole "black woman" comment. You're ignorance is showing and it's not a good look. We see situations and just say they deserve what they got. No one on this earth deserves HIV no matter their lifestyle but we all have to live with the choices we made. I would like to think we show empathy to people in these situations including the young man born with HIV.
@@JavaBott you're 22 and making good choices. That's good for you but a lot of your peers aren't. It's not an excuse but whether your're 22 or 32, you can make a bad decision. You can make a bunch of good decisions and still make 1 bad decision that can change your life. We shouldn't be so quick to judge because your story isn't over.

Her story is moving, informative and eye opening. People need to NOT feel that “it won’t happen to me”. HIV doesn’t have a look/face. Her husband, that is a true gentleman. When he said he takes the pill so that she doesn’t do it alone...nothing but smiles for this couple. Thank you for your testimony and letting people know how one can put their self at risk but also how to not give up and feel like it is a death sentence. Thank you for this interview.
