This is a great reminder for each One Piece fan, from the world building fan, the power scaler, the theorists, and even just the casual watcher/reader of why we all love this story, regardless of the medium.
How did they make me care so much about a few no named side characters in a matter of 23 minutes INCREDIBLE depiction of Marinford… Megumi Ishitani creates gold with everything she directs. I pray we get a One Piece movie helmed by her.
Literal no-names. It took me a re-watch to realize that they never gave them character names. And yet still they were some of the most engaging stories of this year if not beyond.
One of the things I loved the most was the contrast of luffy being the younger brother trying to save his older brother and losing him, but inspiring the older marine brother to save his younger brother. This is what makes one piece amazing.
The marine brother story should be titled “this is why Garp can’t just betray his life’s work as the hero of the marines just to save ace” because these guys are who garp spent his whole life standing up for and they are faaaaaaaaar more common in the marines than people think
This! But not just the marines but a good portion of the world see him as THE hero. A good way to put it into perspective would be imagine superman turning on the justice league and attacking them in the middle of a battle. Thats how the citizens that were watching the war would have felt see/hearing their hero taking out other marines
Quite possibly one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever seen. This is right up there with some of my favorite Ghibli films that’s how great this is. Toei give Megumi Ishitani everything she wants you cannot let her slip away
this has to be one of the best One Piece episode at the top with 1015 and others. And whats crazy is that its a filler episode technically. Megumi Ishitani has to come back and direct some of the upcoming episodes when Egghead return in April, 2025

I am not even one of the Barnes & Nobles kids. I only got into OP when we were still in WCI and I cried and I laughed and my cheeks hurt from grinning from ear to ear. Above all, regardless of animation or story progression, this episode was FUN!! And I feel like so many OP fans can forget that in between powerscaling, chapter ratings and break week: THIS is why we watch/read One Piece: to have fun and enjoy ourselves. To laugh and cry and be a part of their crew even when they will never know us! It's beautiful. This episode is beautiful and a great reminder of why OP is still king after 25 years!! NAKAMAAAAA!!!!
The fact that we didn't learn all the characters name is so amazing. Like we were just following their story, how they are being a fan of the Straw Hats I really want to see all these characters at the end of One Piece especially the Nami fan girl, like in the cannon story. To know what they have been doing, that would be perfect

I used to go to barnes and nobles and read naruto, bleach and one piece on the weekends when i was younger. Im 37 now and i cherish those memories. If they're gonna do a part two, I wish it's going to be Alabasta arc. The journalist lady from Alabasta that went to Marineford and took Luffy's picture got to be the lead man. It'll be peak for sure.
Man Im only at Punk Hazard rn but I still watched this episode and it left me like a weeping MESS. Beautiful animation, music, acting, story, everything and everyone was operating at 100 percent and made for one of the best episodes of anime I have ever seen!

This was an interesting project to animate for the anime’s 25th anniversary which is based on One Piece novel Straw Hat Stories written by Tomohito Ohsaki where it focuses on a person in the world as they learn about 1 of the Straw Hats, but this takes a few of them (Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Chopper, & Franky) & merge them together taking place at the Return to Sabaody - Nami was with the little girl who is fan of cool female pirates (in the novel it was a 20 year old man), & she is voiced by Kokoro Kikuchi who is the voice for Toko & Reina while the old lady with her at the start was voiced by Luffy’s va Mayumi Tanaka - Luffy was with the 2 brother Marines (older brother voiced by Yasuyuki Kase the voice of Big News Morgans while younger is voiced by Hiroki Takahashi the voice of Queen & Bill), but there is a bit of a change with them now stationed in Sabaody - Zoro was the drunk men in the bar talking about who is the strongest swordsman, but this took place in Dressrosa & the 3 are voiced by Yasuhiro Takato (voices Bepo, Zepo, Buffalo, Butchie, Mr.9, Peterman, Satori, Hotori & Kotori), Ryouta Takeuchi (voices Bavarois), & Takuya Kirimoto (voices Cracker) - Chopper was with the Marine who can’t help find Chopper cute (voiced by Jiro Saito who also voices Orlumbus, Snack, & Rampo) & known as the Benevolent King of the Waves, but they changes this with instead of being a simple warship to a toxic substance to destroy ship’s coating & that instead of the little girl delaying them it was the Kuja Pirates - Franky was the woman in the bookstore (voiced by Yuka Komatsu who also voices Sally Isntoinette & Momousagi / Gion), but in the novel she is place in Water 7 where she hears word about Franky from many citizens like the 2 boys we see in this replaces Michael & Hoichael - Now they could have done Brooks but they did not focus on a boy who went to Brook’s last concert
5:40 No she doesn't recognize him because at that point in the story his wanted poster was for Sogeking and he has the mask on. And then post time skip he is more muscular and his hair style drastically changes.
I think normal people that are living in the Grand Line are not really normal. Because of its uniqueness, the Grand Line gave anyone that living in it a buff that made them much stronger and tougher than the people outside the Grand Line...

This episode was right up there with episode 1015, in my opinion, not just as the greatest episode of One Piece, but one of the greatest episodes in all of anime history. This episode had me laughing, crying, laughing some more, angry, happy, everything. Truly this was One Peak.
With how this was masterfully done, I can see Oda incorporates this characters to somehow appear and will have a very smaill interactions with the SH on the later part of the series

10:29 I remember Borders! Back in the early 2000s it was always Borders or Barnes & Noble that had the books and manga I wanted (I used to read a lot more regular books 😂). Our family didn't really do much online shopping until 2007-ish so whenever we went shopping to get something before then and I was coming along, my parents would take me to Borders, Barnes & Noble or GameStop (or Blockbuster or Hollywood Video depending on how far back we're talking). If it was GameStop, we 90% of the time we wouldn't get anything and just browse (maybe pick up a GBA game at most). If it was Borders or Barnes & Noble though, I'd say around half those trips I'd come home with a new book or two. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
They should make an episode about the lives of fodder for each arc that the Strawhats were involved in. Just a whole episode revolved around a plot at the Baratie, maybe there was actually an assassin sent to threaten Zeff from Big Mom. Let's see the lives of people in Loguetown after Smoker left it. An episode in Skypeia from Bellamy's perspective. Etc....
Honestly very good episode showing the perspective of regular people in One Piece with creative visuals and music refreshing and wholesome fun agreed 👍.
When the little girl finds out in the future with an updated wanted poster for Usopp and how he could of potentially let her meet Nami she will lose her shit.
I loved this so much! I think my favorite was the older Marine brother. I loved that his love of Luffy was so personal. I loved the girl too. I loved that we never got a clear shot of the Straw Hats, except for that one fan of Brook’s but she’s a fan of Brook the singer, not Brook the pirate and she wouldn’t connect to who Chopper is.
This is kind of like a test pilot of a new genre for One Piece where the protagonist will be someone very normal like us, taking on the world of supermen or super pirates and marines. I think that could be very interesting down the road as a spin off of One Piece as the story would be even more identifiable to the average viewer. Using just pure wits, courage, sense of adventure, just like Nami as she mentioned would be one heck of a series if they can just do one arc just to satisfy our curiosity about such a spin off
Dang, I usually don't watch the One Piece anime, instead sticking to the manga but... I may have to give this a peep. 7:50 I'm honestly not sure the Pokémon world would be my first pick. I guess it depends which region. Johto seems pretty chill and doesn't have too devastating of Legendaries. That being said I'd take _any_ region over living in the world of One Piece. 🤣
Megumi Ishitani directed this apparently. I feel like she also must be great at creating a team to work with her, because every time she directs an episode the rest of the staff also kills it
