I'm almost convinced ethanol in some older engines can cause valve rattle. If I use 93 octane fuel the valve rattle seems to subside or go away completely.
Anytime I turn turn my ignition and start my baby she likes to run fine until I press the accelerator, then what you hear is a sound. A weird sound that is comprised of scissors cutting hair. Lmao. When I press on the accelerator more its louder and more prominent especially in enclosed areas. The annoying sound disappears when, not a specific speed but when I hit around 30 to 40. Also goes away if I let it drive in cruise control. If I hold the accelerator the sound continues. It sounds like a fan just clicking the edge of your finger 24/7, but dissipates when I drive for a awhile.

It sounds like loose valves. I've search high and low for another video that has the same type of noise. The only thing I have a two compared to is my 2001 Honda Civic used to make this rattling noise as well and what it was was the valves were loose. My car eats oil so you have to maintain the oil level. I'm not 100% it's the valves but I know it's not the exhaust or any other suggestion that people throw out there. The only other thing you could possibly be is the timing chain hitting the timing chain tensioner, but even that makes a different sound than what this is. It literally happens when the pedal hits the gas and it's at the beginning of acceleration as far as being in gear, because it doesn't do it when I'm idling no matter how much I rev it Up so it has to do with work somehow on the engine. One mechanic I asked said that he'd have to take the front of the motor apart to see exactly what it is there's really no diagnosing it. Not sure if I leave him but as far as I can tell nobody else is pointed this issue out with pretty much any other vehicle that's on RUclips or otherwise
@@TechTimeElectronics I found out through research that it is the starter that makes that noise, my Astro van does the same thing it only makes the noise on acceleration never at idle. it sounds like loose valves but it's the starter gear bouncing around on the starter shaft and hitting the flywheel no one has ever diagnosed this correctly before. Pull your starter check and see if the gear slides up and down on the shaft freely if it does replace the starter

I replaced a rattling cat. The material inside became loose and vibrated against the housing. Most noticeably after turning the vehicle off, it would rattle for another couple of seconds. The heat shield was intact by pop rivets, so it was obvious that my problem was the cat.

I drive a manual and my engine is rattling when I’m in gear but without the throttle. If I keep in in neutral and coast there’s no sound. Doing an oil change later today and going down the line to check it all out

If you rev even the smallest amount ever just enough to move the rev meter line and hear the engine noise. Like literally a toe push w the smallest effort ever, did it go away? If so. Could be the belt got lose and might need a new one or just tighten it . Problem is when you readjust it and it happens again and again with you having to adjust it more than once each time you do that will cause the friction to decrease which ultimately would snap the belt ar one point. Now that your informed with this I recommend just buying a stronger and better lasting quality belt so you don't go thru this issue anymore. Assuming that the belt was your problem. My daughter got a Chevy Aveo 2007 with a lil inline 4 and our freeways in my state are 80-85 mph which is what we are use to but that small engine coming from a 45mph turn requires a bigger step on the gas obviously pushing the engine more. Ultimately you don't see belt problems like that on bigger engine cars. Just some food for thought and a guess based off what you said
yeah soon as i got home it rattled because engine was slightly overheating, didnt realise i had a cracked radiator, kinda dulled my oil down and burnt abit (head seems fine etc). but it did like a rattle sound cos of low oil, put new oil in and suddenly went away, drive up and down the driveway with no rattle sound, think i just got lucky.. Other than needing to replace the radiator but that's better than an internal engine problem
yo homie i just had to replace my radiator the car was working fine no rattle nothing before radiator was replaced and when radiator was cracked but now 6 days after i replaced the radiator it’s doing that huge rattle sound
salsamink a couple including the "low oil and the tensioner, It would've been better if you actually posted the year/make model of car it helps narrow down the likely cause for the sound for that vehicle

Any ideas I can investigate before tearing the engine down? It could be a vvt sprocket but I can't find enough info to narrow down the potential causes.

@@Lssjg702 it could be anything from plug, to wires, or injector. In some cases a coil pack or a vacuum leak. A stuck pcv valve or bad egr could cause it too. But if it got harder to start it might be fuel related. Scan your vehicle's computer if you can!

too much oil is better than having low oil straight up lmfao. You can't exactly drown your engine but probably wont get all the power there till it goes down abit.
I need help with my 2002 Acura MDX I'm getting a rattle sound when I turn on the car it's not every time but it happens every so often. I did a full tune up also added new coils spark plugs oil change on a regular every 4500 miles I even added Lucas Oil. I cleaned out mass air flow sensor. Any advice as to what I can be I have a hundred fifty thousand miles on my car now and at times I feel like it's a little sluggish and RPMs but then again I do need a wheel alignment in two front tires.
Cesar Pena it's your starter getting stuck as the engine gets going. It gets stuck for a second or two causing the starter to make that sound. I bet it sounds like an electric scooter on full throttle. And if only does it sometimes like in the morning or when the car has been sitting for a while.
This is a yr late but in case others come across this, the VVT pulley/Phaser can cause a rattling sound on startup when it starts to go bad. Swap it with a new one and good to go if it's the isue. K24's are notorious with this issue.

Fruit Box Do you have a traverse with the V6 3.6 Maybe you need oil because I know the timing chains can expand on those motors
