@harristsang2 the NRA wouldn't be able to expand past taking Nanjing. Realistically, the Japanese military is too strong, and if the NRA expanded past the Japanese involvement there would be no fall of Guangdong even if all the warlords sided with the NRA.
How ironic the GBASAR is basically a bigger HKSAR irl after 1997. Controlled democracy is fading, suppression of Zhujin identity as the suppression of Hongkonger identity irl, even the government system is the same. The GBASAR would perish, just like Hong Kong has perished, especially since 2019.
democracy isn't exactly fading in the GBASAR (at least for now), but the NSD is halting long-awaited reforms and it will be fairly difficult to get through with Zheng Yanxiong in charge

Since Mak’s ascension into CE, pro-democrats gained higher political representation in the establishment, and have a higher say in the GBASAR’s future path, such as Lai Man-fai, in OTL only being a mere pro-democratic lawmaker with no significant prominence. In MTNOTL, a member of the Mak’s (and Lee’s) cabinet. Also, the China in this timeline is not as conservative, since it’s obvious they are even willing to cross the aisle with democrats by a much further step than even in the Tung and Tsang administrations.
