    Thank you for this video! I have a set of the small J. Herbin dip pens that I bought fifteen ago, and while I love the aesthetics, I rarely used them due to the roughness of the nibs. Now, armed with the information in this video and a piece of sandpaper, I have been able to vastly improve the writing experience offered by these beautiful pens. Of course, now I find my shopping cart at Goulet Pen Co. is filled with various inks and papers, and I realize this was part of your insidious plan all along. Well played, Sir... well played indeed...

    I use these for color coding my journal, as an author I have a few different stories I’ve got planned, but when I’m writing notes I just go, in the past this has made looking through my notes for a specific story hard. Now I use different colors for notes on different stories, blue, purple black, green etc. love it

    I have a few glass pens. The first two weren't great so I bought another much more expensive one that was really beautiful, but still scratchy and unpleasant. This simple trick worked very well. Thanks!

    I practiced a lot with steel and glas dip pens before I bought my first fountain pen. The sound that the glass pens make when writing is very interesting.

  • @Gouletpens
    @Gouletpens  12 лет назад +2

    If you do smooth the tip, make sure it's with VERY fine sandpaper, it's easy to overdo it and you can't go back once you do! It really doesn't take much.

  • @Gouletpens
    @Gouletpens  12 лет назад +4

    Yeah, no longer available. We ran into some quality issues and discontinued them, and eventually Exaclair actually stopped importing them into the US at all. The Rohrer and Klingner ones are gorgeous, and write much better than the later version of the Herbin pens. The tips are smooth but slightly broader than what you see in this video.

    I am used to fountain pens and just got a glass dip nib that I really enjoy. However, I've always been paranoid about contaminating my bottle of ink. That paranoia is worse with the dip pen. Am I being crazy, or is there a real reason to worry about a greater chance of contamination when using a dip nib rather than filling a fountain pen?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 лет назад +1

    I've seen a fountain pen with a glass nib on Kickstarter a while ago and I was really curious about it. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to buy it and I would be way too scared to break it to dare use it! I often drop pens left and right... luckily capped, most of the time. What is your opinion on a fountain pen with a glass nib?
    (here's the link if you're curious! www.winkpens.com/)

    • @fakiirification
      @fakiirification 7 лет назад +1

      I would say save your money and just get a glass dip pen like in this video. seems like that glass nib fountain pen just gives you longer writing time with less of the convenience of not having to clean anything out to change ink, etc. unless of course you don't want to change ink, in which case, go for the glass fountain pen. If your clumsy, it'll teach you to be more careful if you carry it every day.

  • @bikkies

    These have become ubiquitous and glass dip pens are now all over the likes of Amazon and eBay. Many no-name and Chinese brands have entered the market since this was recorded and I have several that i use for ink testing (particularly iron falls) without fear of fouling or corroding a metal nib. None of mine are J Herbin yet, but I may treat myself.
