  • Here is what D-STAR sounds like on Reflector 030C. Audio is from an Icom ID-50A from a Pi-Star hotspot. In my opinion, D-STAR sounds the best compared to YSF, DMR, P-25, etc.

I used to sit on my dads boat when it was parked at the marina in Gig Harbor back in 1988-89 drinking beer with a buddy. We would use the CB radio and have all sorts of conversations with people. This brings me back to the 80's in so many ways..

Dstar is me favorite. I can listen and know my friends voices same as a clear analog.

I'll always be partial to P25 just because that's what I've used day in and day out for 15+ years at work, but compared to all the others D-STAR is definitely top notch.

P25 Phase I has twice the voice bandwidth of D-Star, standard Fusion, DMR and P25 Phase II so it does sound better. I often listen to P25 using my hotspot and my Yaesu in Fusion Voice Wide mode. Sounds great for digital. Doesn’t beat Tetra but it sounds good.

I don't like any of them. D-star sounds just as robotic as the others.
