    Ironically I just figured this out the other day, in regards to the posterior pelvic tilt. I hadn’t seen this video yet and was playing around with posturing to help my low back pain. I change that set up by scooping my pelvis under and holy… I had my best range session in memory and some of the best ball striking on a course in a really long time.
    It not only eased the pressure on my low back and nerves but kept my posture through impact.
    The way you explained the opposite was a light bulb moment for me.
    I appreciate all your videos and how you explain how small things impact bigger items in the swing.

    For me setting the belt buckle just slightly left of center for a right handed golfer is a vital setup key. It was covered but i think it could be emphasized a bit more. For me it insures I get just enough weight forward and allows me to keep it there during the swing, eliminating or reducing any swaying. Great content thanks.

    This just broke down everything that's been going wrong with my swing for the last little while. Pair this with making the shoulders and grip too tight and you've got a shank machine and thin central. I'll be working on keeping my hips under me and letting my arms and shoulders completely relax. Great video!

    Great lesson and driving home what I’ve been working on. Best part though is it’s the most comfortable change I’ve ever made as the body just feels more free to move the way it’s intended in a golf swing. So much so that I spent a good 6 hours combined at the range over the weekend and it was my main focus. To anyone watching, if your name isn’t Keegan Bradley, this will help you :). Thanks Eric!

    I really enjoy this discussion format, it presents the material from multiple angles and gets a bit deeper into the subject. I have the “athletic” stance syndrome, which I got from the former baseball players who teach golf using baseball analogies. It should have occurred to me that golf and baseball have very little in common. Anyways, this looks like a possible fix for my early extension issues. Thanks for another great video!
    And ,,, the discussion of how the knees work as the hips rotate was very helpful.

    Great video and description of the many different movements in the swing....you talk about how the majority of club golfers lack mobility and flexibility and therefore have trouble getting the pelvis turned and avoiding early extension. The key is getting the hips right at set up but how often do you find that the golfer is actually able to maintain or control their hips throughout the swing (if they have the issue at set up)? I would think that once they start into the more dynamic movement of the swing they would lose that posture majority of the time???

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад +2

      Hey--thanks!
      I would say 80% (ish) of golfers I personally see have the center of hips sitting too far back behind the heels.
      that would be the main issue to me.
      The center of pelvis sitting back behind ankle generally puts weight back on heels (which you know)
      As the golfer creates motion from that starting point their brain/body has no where to go but forward (to counter balance)
      That forward motion generally speaking will kick pelvis in toward ball and level out belt line.
      The prohibits any turning and tilting from happening
      That would be my personal main point here--hope that helps clarify my thoughts

  • @PatrickMC
    @PatrickMC Год назад +1

    So helpful for early extending. I’ll I’ll admit, it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as an “athletic” setup, but unfortunately people see guys like Rory and want to look like that, problem is, they’re not freaks like Rory who can get into crazy positions on the downswing. Even tiger seems to have gone back to a more neutral posture.

    Hi Eric, clearly all makes sense and clearly great video. My question is why do so many professional golf players are maintaining a lot right knee flex at their top of backswing? Thanks.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад +2

      Hey! Great question.
      I do not think so many MAINTAIN trail leg flex. I have seen thousands of pro swings analyzed and every single one BUT 2 have lost flex in their trail leg (it straightened SOME)
      Obviously some more, some less.
      One of the BIG things to understand is the trail leg straightening in backswing allows/effects the hips to turn.
      PGA player who is an elite athlete, gets physical training, stretching, working on their bodies everyday.....they are WAY more mobile and in better shape.
      SO.....the average golfers who sits all day and works out very little with tight hips, weak core, etc....cannot turn enough with trail leg more flexed. Hips don't turn then torso doesn't turn, then arms/hands cannot go in enough....etc etc
      So average golfers need more help because their bodies dont work as well as PROS

    Eric, I have been told (and video confirms) that at setup my hips are too far behind me...hips sockets are behind my heels in DTL view. Whenever I move them forward to be over my ankles as suggested in this video, I feel my weight more toward my toes. When I re-balance my weight to the middle of the foot, my hips/butt moves back to the bad place again. What can you recommend for someone who struggles to get hips properly over the ankles without shifting weight too far toward toes?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! Yeah you probably need to FEEL like they are on toes in the beginning
      Want weight on BALL OF FEET
      Not middle, not toes. In between.....where toes meet base of foot/shoelaces end
      But its normal to FEEL on toes if you're coming from heels
      Then video to confirm where you really are compared to feel

    This is not a loaded statement or an overly critical statement. But this seems like what I run into when I've taken formal lessons in the past. That is, you are describing good fundamentals for the setup but they are targeted towards one body type. Someone who is 5 ft 10 and 170lbs. I know that I need to become more fit, lose some weight, but I am 6 ft 1 and I'm barrel chested with short arms. It helps me to be a little more bent over so that I can swing my arms underneath and up more freely, avoiding my thick chest a little. Would you say that this setup is for any body type?

    Eric, do you have any videos on hitting off the toe of the club? I am consistently hitting it off the toe. To me it looks like when I am coming down my hands are too close to my body. Even when I do not early extend, my hands are still coming down from the inside but not enough out it seems. I have even purposely tried to hit it off the hosel and I could not do it if my life depended on it. LOL

  • @SoCalGolfer1966
    @SoCalGolfer1966 3 года назад +1

    So would you say that to much athletic aka butt pointing out creates less turn, and becomes more of an arm swing? Because the lower body gets stuck? I was given a lesson where a ball was put between my knees to create more turn but I feel like I’m reality it causes me to become all arms which creates an over the top action because my knees are locked ?

    Hi Eric
    That was a great video.
    I've been in the camp of having the stuck out butt at setup which has contributed to my early extension. I had no idea this was a problem until I saw this video.
    I'm yet to hit the course with this knowledge, however when I practice in front of a mirror and consciously tuck my pelvis further forward and get more into that position of middle of hips over ankles, i am able to rotate so so so much easier. Previously I'd be able to rotate shoulders about 70 degrees or so, and this slight setup change has allowed for 90 degrees with ease (maybe 100 even). It's quite unbelievable actually!
    Quick question.. is this pelvis set up principle consistent for a good putting set up too? (Ie middle of hips over ankles).
    All the best
    Will

He did it because I was standing too close to the ball and unable to come from the inside because of it. My hamstrings are too tight to stand straight and being as far from the ball as he wanted. If my butt if farther back because my knees are bent keeping my weight centered in my feet, is that still a problem?
