  • The Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 Person Tent might just be the holy grail for one person four-season tents. I will have to actually get it out into the field for some real testing soon.
The Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 Person Tent is shaping up to be a stellar addition to my kit. I purchased this tent for fastpacking, and I'm well aware I might be the only person on earth to use this type of tent for such purposes. Well, i've had an ultralight tent get crushed in some high alpine storms, and I'm not about to take that risk when i'm alone, 30 miles away from my car.
So, what do I like about this tent?
    1. Packed Size. This tent is unreal small considering it is a four person tent.
    2. Weight! Yeah, this tent weighs around 3 and a half pounds, slightly less if you don't bring everything that it includes, such as the repair kit and extra pole segment.
    3. Color! Yup, I love the subdued green. This will help me be one with nature and not stick out like a sore thumb.
    4. Ease of pitch. This tent goes up quite fast, and with both the outer and inner tent.
    5. Storm worthiness. Being a four-season tent and constructed the way it is...I reckon that nothing will flatten this tent. I camp on high alpine tundra completely exposed to weather so this is very important.
    6. Roominess. For a one person tent I feel like there is ample room inside the inner tent. I like that I have about a foot of room at the head and foot end of the tent, plus plenty of room for my sleeping pad and quilt.
    7. Vestibule. Being able to retract the inner tent to provide up to 8 or 9 extra inches of room is incredible.
    8. Ventilation. This tent has so much ventilation!!! I don't imagine i'll have to deal with condensation much and if i do, then i know it is unavoidable. There is a ton of ventilation.
Ok, there ARE a couple of things that I dislike. Granted, this is all just my initial impressions and this could very well change during use.
    1. Foot/Head guy lines. Because there are three guy lines at each end and then run as individual lines, there is a bit more to get tangled up here versus the HIlleberg Akto. I would have liked to see these lines get triangulated to just one point, but I can see where the three separate ones are possibly a stronger design.
    2. Aluminum foot/head poles. I am able to get three of these in without issue but one of the corners on this tent is especially tight. I'm not sure why there is such a discernable difference in that one corner, but there is. The stitching on the tent has stretched some there and I can see bits of daylight through it....not sure if this is an issue but it did strike me a bit odd. I'll contact Fjallraven about this.
    3. Included stakes. Although the included stakes are DAC and top quality, I don't love this particular V type stake. They don't have a ton of grip and i'll very likely replace them right away with the MSR mini groundhogs.
I will be doing a field review of this as soon as I can get into the mountains. It won't be long now!
