This is not a review and certainly not complete. :) The most important fact is missing - real values. Charging indication is one thing but real increase of battery power is something completely different. I tried this charger hard for 15 minutes on my phone with ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT but yes - all this time my Android phone was indicating charging. The battery stayed on 40% all the time, no increase. I also tried the charger on my other Android phone with battery dead (0%) and after 20 minutes of continuous "charging" the phone was still completely dead - and yes, it also indacated charging all the time. In my opinion - this thing does not work, it only looks like.
@@Aussiehomestead1965 Exactly, if your device needs to light the display to let you know it is being charged, the power goes even down after a while of "charging". The reason is that ths charger has the output of 600mA (you can find it in the specification of the product) but smartphones need at least 1A to 2A to be charged properly. So this charger works, but not for devices that need more power than it can produce.
I believe this is good for emergencies ONLY. It seems to me like you could charge a dead phone just enough to make one call at least and that's it. I don't think it's expected to charge your phone completely as you might need to spend a whole day cranking and cranking the lever to get 10% maybe 😒
The Iphone 6 doesnt charge because apples a cun and makes the data pin signal unique. There are 4 pins on a USB. The outside two are your charging pins and the inner two are your data pins. Depending on the datapin signal, the device will charge at an amp or two amps.
My wife grabbed one of these for me to try out, the gearttain disintegrated after about 3 minutes of cranking. I didn’t go even 1 percent above nominal. Junk all around. I took it apart and found a very rudimentary friction drive from a toy car with half ass soldered hair thin wires.
Def still seems worth getting. I never would've expected it to actually charge anything. Especially with the wifi still on and the screen nice and bright. But bringing a device back to life long enough to make a phone call could save your life. Probably worth the $5
ya i wonder how much food energy it actually takes and if you could rig it to a bicycle which you could probably sooooo easily like seriously lol anyone could probly connect it to a bicycle wheel and seat snd you could excereize and charge a whole power bank?
For the larger phones that didn't charge with the hand crank, can't you just hook up the hand crank to a battery bank then charge the battery bank then plug the iphone into the battery bank.
I’ve a similar dynamo crank on my emergency flashlight. I must use their provided usb cable to plug in my iPhone flash cord. It took about 15 minutes of cranking to get my dead iPhone 6 to 5%. A lot of effort but a real lifesaver.
try charging an actual power bank for a whole hour and make a foot peddle like sewing machines had so its really easy to sit there and just tap your foot which is way easier than cranking... a foot peddle like this would be amazing and probly charge stuff as u just need to spin that thing faster and it WILL charge
There is another video that shows a guy using one of these to charge an iphone - he used a cable from a camera he had and an adapter for the iphone. He got it to work.
My friend urbexes a lot. And he and his friend got kinda lost. Glad he had this with an old 3510. Used it to call emergency people to come rescue them.
@@uroskostic8570 I agree. But I would suggest a small power bank because it will be quicker (I mean that loosely...) to fully charge. And with a constant, non-hurried speed. Then have multiple smaller power banks. Kind of like switching razor blades. P.S. I did the math. 2 mintues gets you 1% battery. As a proper high speed phone charger operates at 6 or 7 watts, a retracting pull string - like Woody from Toy Story might be better if you can't fit a big hand crank, then you can stretch it out with more force and let it retract back in. The big hand crank on an old Freeplay torch I had would have worked quite well. In terms of charging a phone, an average battery holds around 10 watt hours in a decent smart phone. 36 kilojoules - or lifting 100 kg weight 36 metres. You could probably build this charge off an exercise bike with 5 minutes of easy-ish pedaling, though you'd have to put it into a second battery or slow unwinding spring first so it can go more slowly into the phone.
Your hand will get tired if you spin this hand for so long in the hope of fully charging the device. You won't charge the smartphone fully very fast due to a low amperage
There are slightly more powerful ones like these www.gearbest.com/mp3-mp4-players/pp_658477.html?lkid=13538510 with a couple more features like radio, flashlight etc. But no matter how much you crank, a phone can only tolerate a fixed amount of current as per its specs. And that is how these crank chargers are designed. Giving it excessive power in a shorter time can damage the battery if done repeatedly.
+MiiBooth Ok I was thinking on just getting a larger hand crank just so it give enough current for a iphone. I considered the radio one too but I think the crank charges the battery inside the radio then that battery can charge a phone so you need to rely on a 2nd battery, but maybe thats wrong and its direct current generated to the phone
Get the bigger one's like the Red Cross emergency crank or go to military surplus. The bigger one can charge anything including cars. Look at WW1 or WW2 movies. Emergency only!
One could invent a charger that you hang on a tree and tie a weight such as a 20 kg rock or a 10 kg water bucket in it and leave it to crank by gravity. Once in a while you'd only have to lift the weight back up.
Do you think this would work make a machine that will crank it for you it would be connected to the battery so it would be going forever and give it like a little push start
