    I've been wearing my Carhartt Detroit Jacket for 25 years. Still looks great and keep getting compliments on this classic jacket. They've redesigned them for 2020 with an additional inside pocket and extended waist flap. They are designed for workers who wear a toolbelt and are also popular with truckers for obvious reasons.

      @@WoolysWorld the Bartlett is my favorite for a majority of our harsh winters where I live. The fit is great but for me this is the first Carhartt I had to size up to an XL. Maybe it’s my body type but this style seems to be a lot smaller. Also around the cuffs it’s a lot more snug I see a few ppl really don’t like that but it works great for me.

    • @WoolysWorld

      Really! I've heard the opposite? That's strange. I'm still looking out for one. But the price here is around 130 pounds, at the moment I have about 10 jackets so I can't really justify it if you know what I mean. But if one came up at the right price I'd buy it

    Carhartt active jackets, are only good when battered, because a freshie is always stiff and the cotton has not shrunk, to give it a tight warm weave (it's the same with the detroit) on the outer body of the jacket.

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  4 года назад +2

      Thanks man, is there a way to speed up the process? Like if I get it wet?

    • @Andrew-rb9jy
      @Andrew-rb9jy 4 года назад +2

      @@WoolysWorld I don't claim to be a technical expert or anything like that. But I've found a couple of washes using soda crystals and 60 degrees - shrinks the 'duck' outer fabric both on the 'detroit' and 'active' by about 3%. Which is enough to give both a tight weave and making them warm. (incidental to this, it is one of reasons why carhartt is slightly oversized - according to a representative of the UK distributor)
      Also people have used fjällraven Greenland wax on the 'duck' outer fabric of the 'detroit' to make it warmer and slightly waterproof (just a thought, if you don't want the faff of washing it a couple of times, before using the jacket)

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  4 года назад +1

      @@Andrew-rb9jy excellent advice buddy, i actually thought of using fabsil gold on the active jacket, its my beater jacket anyway, thanks

    • @Andrew-rb9jy
      @Andrew-rb9jy 4 года назад +1

      @@WoolysWorld It is my experience, that a wash in waterproof agent such as the one you mentioned makes 'duck' fabric 'sweaty' especially during high activity.
      Whereas, using fjällraven Greenland or even barbour wax allows you to target your water resistance and leave key areas such as under your arm free, allowing sweat to evaporate.
      There could be a video in that.
      Stay healthy, buddy.

    *Love your kiddo!! Precious! And I had some good laughs at the camera and tripod messing with you!! About Carhart, they are great, but something funny - the 'active' hoodie - I actually found one identical to that, made in Russia, several years ago; don't remember the brand name, but it wore like iron!!! Warm as could be, tough in the field, and I wish I still had it. Bought it at a Wal mart store for about 40 USD. Keep up the great videos - youTube does NOT tell me about your new uploads, btw.*

    I have both - all made in the USA
    An active unlined jacket that lasted ~15-16 years or so working farms, logging, and horsefarms in 3 different states, and just wearing as a jacket to go out for business or pleasue or regular errands
    I got that from a trapper supply store in sw Virginia via mail for $50.00 new.
    And the detroit lined jacket exactly like the one you had, and your observations RE both were the same as mine ....except that the Detroit was better for layering as its not as warm or form fitting as you said but had more room for layering than the Active jacket- which you can definitely layer, too.
    I loved the inner zip pocket on the Detroit as it can hold a wallet and other big stuff
    Zip front pocket is handy, too
    As are the front pockets
    Active jacket slash pockets are handy asf for gloves or a beanie
    The Detroit jacket I have zipper went which i still gotta get fixed which kind of sucked bc it hasnt been used nearly as hard or as much as the Active jacket, which, overall, is prob the best jacket I've owned, and i owned a lot, living and working in northern New England on farms, and worked lots of days starting off with -35 F windchilks (-37 C) on horse farms, or when logging or otherwise.
    Not to mention living and working on farms in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, in addition, haying, logging, horse farms, and construction for 5 months; burining 9000 cals/day to maintain 245 at one of those horse farms - sooo....A LOT of really hard work
    Point is my jackets including a Carhartt Extremes jacket that is nearly 30 years old and still going fine with no major issues - i wore that in the winter on all these jobs - even in North Carolina it was 16°F some mornings when i began. I paid 89.00 from Cabelas for that coat in late 90s
    Anyway, great job, and i concur with your observations.
    Ive got a Barncoat, too, and I've e got my trapper and Fish & Game patches sewn onto thats cotton duck and kined but a very lightweight cover jacket good for layering under and using for chores on the farm or woods that are light /not gonna get you fithy and wet.
    The Barn coat was also $50 or a little more, and the Active Jacket was $50 back then. All USA made. I've got carhartt Extreme Bibs, too....which are imported.
    Jackets and coats are all size 50 or 52 and/or 2XL in the case of the Active jacket, which was really too small for me once my chest reached 50-51-52" as i continued to add muscle/size.
    It was probably borderline at 50", and by 51" it was definitely too tight

    You could all do with some English lessons it appears!! They are a good product but like you said they are overpriced for what you get. A hood is always a good bonus. They somehow made it into the "niche' market for construction workers, farmers etc. In Manitoba, we have our very own top of the line, no-nonsense apparel company. It's called Tough Duck and it is tough stuff. I've had one of their Hydro parkas since 1980 and bibs since 1982. I must admit the cuffs are a bit ratty on the parka but nothing a bit of leather and a quick sew wouldn't fix right up. Good idea, get that motley crew out and about doing bush stuff. I'll frost you!! toughduck.com/product-category/jackets/
