    In the meantime, we all pay a YEARLY registration fee for our licensed vehicles. Why??? The ONLY time we should have to pay for registration is when there is a CHANGE in registration. If I own a vehicle for ten years, I should only pay to have the registration put in my name, and then if I sell it, the buyer pays to have the registration changed to his/her name. Our elected officials claim to CARE about our wasted hours, but they certainly don't care about money they can take from us yearly for no good reason except to fill their coffers.

      Still need an appointment and have to pay a mechanic for the inspection fee along with the state fee. Just so they can check your car to see if its producing any emissions related engine codes. Plus every year is ridiculous when a state like CA only requires it every other year. This needs to be readdressed.

    • @brassmule
      @brassmule 29 дней назад

      @@RKDriverThe current fee is $18.50. Mechanics are disallowed from charging anything more than that. My cars are all legit with zero issue and I do my own repairs and maintenance to ensure that, but I still slip the guy I go to a 20 and a couple of his favorite tall boys. Small shop and they always get my cars in and out fast. Time is money.
      Not sure how it'll change with just emissions really, other than the fee goes down. I bet shops that do it will become much fewer due to the lower fee, but many shops with the current system would find things wrong and make money on the repairs (or overcharging you for new wipers).
      The Texas inspection is nothing like something from PRNY where the physical safety of steering, suspension, braking, and the frame of the vehicle are thoroughly inspected. The big thing that prevents people from passing in Texas was emissions (evap, catalytic codes, etc), so that seems to still be the case for the bulk of Texas residents via population density, just not the bulk of counties any longer.

    When someone starts "10% are creating 90%" when you know their full of crap because those numbers could come from anywhere. The state don't want to lose out on the fee's that were being paid to cover the cost of inspections and stickers so you will still be charged the say fee a yearly registration.

    She said it out loud and then lied to correct herself.
    ...also, the issue isn't the inspections, those are important and I don't like that they're going away... The issue is the emissions BS. Get rid of that, keep the inspections (but let's get a little more common sense about them) and everyone wins except the tree hugger who wants to get rid of your combustion vehicle.

    1:15 what vehicles specifically? 10% of private passenger vehicles? 10% of all vehicles on the road? 10% of all vehicles in the country, farm equipment, race cars, etc...?
    I get that she is referring to inspection stickers which would indicate vehicles on the roads but I don't trust them. Like how they will say "42,000 people died as a result of gun violence." And while that is true it makes is seem like there were 42,000 homicides but in reality over half were self infected. Not the same "gun violence" they push on the news but it helps generate fear by "honestly" reporting the "facts".

    When Your inspection is "Approved" its like the state deeming your vehicle completely safe to be on the road. If You crash you can sue the state for saying your car was safe when it possibly wasnt. States dont want to deal with lawsuits...other states got rid if inspections long ago

    Still have to pay the fee .. they just don’t want to do the paperwork. Means it takes more money for them to file than the service itself. Not about saving the drivers time

      No, the Emissions Test in the Counties that do it will still happen. Just no Safety Inspection.

    Should be like a jury summons. When your name comes up you must swing by and get get inspected.

    No, inspections help catch small problems early, before they become serious problems. In fact, they should include checking the engine fluids (oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, refrigerant, coolant, etc…) as these are the major causes of engine failure or low fuel economy (for non-EV vehicles.) A few quarts of motor oil is WAY cheaper than a new engine! And no one wants to get stuck without A/C on a hot, Texas summer day! 😊

    Our only place locally to have ours inspected is planning on closing the doors the end of October. I guess if we have a November or December expiration we will just have to drive unregistered until January 2025!

      You're right. In Japan for example - if mandated that all citizens maintain their vehicles to a certain standard, without annual inspection - you'd likely have mass compliance.
      But this is Houston. 😂😂😁😁 Swangaz will make an instant comeback.
