Why Your Timing to Attack Is Wrong

- Опубликовано: 11 ноя 2019
- Timing is a crucial component in kumite. Even if your punch/kick is fast, precise, and powerful, without the correct timing, it won't reach the opponent.
I've taken 4 types of timing.
0:51 Before the Opponent Attacks
10:59 When the Opponent Starts Moving
15:40 When the Opponent Finishes Attacking
20:18 After the Opponent Finishes Attacking

I'm an old-school karateka (and I'm old). After almost 50 years of mostly freestyle (non-stopping) type of kumite, it's hard to change the way I think about fighting. This is the first video that brought together in one place all of the basic concepts of sport kumite that I've been missing. I learned a lot! Thank you sensei!
I would recommend this to everyone to watch, Good work!
thank you so much!
You covered a lot of sparring basics in this video. I really enjoyed the tip about putting the hand first. I think that could help my speed even more.
haha, yep there were tons of gems in this video!
how does that work though. If I'm thinking about point karate, wont the idea of hand first decrease power and thus less chance of point? I mean, I feel like the hand will be finished moving before you reach your target, thus suboptimal timing?
one of the most userful kumite videos on YT! keep it up!
wow thank!
💯
This helped so much with some things i hadnt quite figured out thank you so much!
Much appreciated for this tips on training and teaching guidance. It's gonna help me a lot as karate instructor. Big up and best regards from East Africa, Tanzania 🇹🇿
My poor timing is why I lost my last tournament, hopefully this will help
Yes! Hope you’ll like the video!
Good luck for next time
Dont base entire gameplan on one trick , this should be added to complete a plan not basis for a plan(2 black belts , red in Kenjutsu and thats w both Katanas)
Same man. I lost even though I had the shenshu. The score was 4-3 and it was the last 10 secs of the bout and I missed my Kizami zuki and lost. Hopefully I will better my timing soon. My sensei was so disappointed bro.
@@rishabhgaur7584 a sensei should ALWAYS BE PROUD , AS U LEARN MORE FROM A DEFEAT THAN A WIN win means"everythings working im good" loss means"okay I kno I can do this but what im trying isnt working time to train and upgrade my experience" thats a real win , your sensei doesnt deserve u , plz as a junior Instructor to kids training in Point Sparring "I AM SO SORRY THAT HAPPEND , HE IS THE ONE WHO LOST U LEARNED" now get out there and win brother LDP (LongDistancePound)
Very good explained.Keep on.And it is very useful.

I will try these timings in my tournament
30 years ago when I was in karate competitions, I used to score a lot with a back hand. Is it still a valid technique? Your double punch was my lead attack, and then I'd go over the top with a backhand to the head as the 3rd technique.
Thanks for the excellent video! Can you provide the spelling of the Japanese word for combination of attacks? I couldn't quite catch the complete word in the video.
Sensie does punch in Kumite Should be like Full force or it's ok like to somewhat "touchlike " thank you very much your tips make me more inspired this new found art of mine.
You should practice controlling your full power punch!
Hi! Could you explain how you teach to control punch or kick? Please
Do you always want to have the same leg forwards that they do? So if they have their left leg foward you want your left leg foward? I come across people who will keep changing which leg they have foward.
Personally , I prefer having the left forward, but it's better if you can switch so it gets confusing for the opponent!
Great video! I find trouble to go back to my position after attacking during kumite. I tend to use my quadriceps strength instead my calves and I get very slow trying to push my own momentum. Any help here, plz, workout, technique...
Push off your toes, then calf then quads...just like using exlplosiveforce during differential rotation while generating torque and leverage in punches..takes time to be able to successfully perform kinetic chains while striking
The concept is the same while moving explosively just not to the same degree.
@@garethllewellyn215 I agree with you!
👍👍 oss...
Imma use this in TKD. Bwahahaha. Thanks sensei.
Master can u make a video on nunchuck defense techniques against sword
for that kind of attack the defender must react by moving laterally to let the attacker almost by-pass him. the problem of retreating backward is that is the direction of the attack.
How about a version of this against other striking arts?
Please explain referees signals and penalties in Kumite match
I lost my tournament due to wrong timing😭
But thanks for your tips❤
🙌🙌🙏
Oss I am swaratmika Singh 🥋
nice to meet you!
Punching like this will it take away from power? It seems different than old school.
It is different, and the emphasis is put on distance and speed!
please make video with aggresive oppement
👍
Me as a novice with half a month of karate training learning this because I was put in a tournament that is about 4hrs from now💀(I'm confident I'll win)
I wonder what school of karate-do you practice under?
Timing beats speed, precision beats power.
Can you block then someone come in?
Hi are you affiliated with ISKF?
How to make practic ura mawashi giri
OSS
What happen in 14:35 ?
Please provide subtitles because it's hard to recognize japanese words🙏
I also love kumite fight but there is no way to beat the opponent if the timing is wrong
I am scared... 😔
Tomorrow is my tournament.... And I really fell scared...
6foot 260 and still I train, alot
Why bounce?
Generally its so that you can already be moving when you attack or counter attack. It allows you to generally move around and react faster.
Though, inertia is a thing so as you come down on your bounce, for that fractiom of a second, it is harder tp move/react
Bro please help me😢
I lost my first tournament 😭
I was not in good distance during the fight.... that's why I lost 😢
I got third 🥉 medal in kata .. I don't know why...i did my best at kata butt 😢😢😢😢I was very weak at that time . when I got third medal.. I was disappointed ...and I lost the fight too😭😭😭😭😭
My teacher was disappointed because he said I am good at karate and I will win gold butttt ....😭😭😭😭😭😭
How do I prove myself?
3:26
23:22 :)
This is like Kobra Kai except this is family friendly
I lost my last tournament because my timing was not good my opponent kicked me mavashi Geri
To my face and I lost my tournament

100th comment
Bruce lee always said"be in opposite position always and switch to oppose him,90% of time he will look down at your feet , this is when u should start attack, do not tighten or clench your fist until moment of impact and aim behind your opponent so u go thru the target"
Looks pretty much like amateur boxing to me
I mean he's a amateur too so I think thats would be bad for boxers if he looked like a pro boxer
