  • Jackson offers a strong instruments for just one euro under a thousand... the minor cosmetic flaws and the missing gig bag/case are something we need to talk about, but they don't make this a bad purchase at all. If you are in the market for a rock/metal axe, then you should look at this one for sure!

    I was disappointed my RR24 Pro Series in Charcoal grey didn't come with a case but then I started playing the guitar and forget all about my disappointment. So I bought the nice TSA SKB branded Jackson has for 100 bucks and I am has as can be. It's my main axe now.

    I just purchased this guitar and I absolutely love it, very thick sounding. My son calls it "Pickle burst"!!! He is just jealous... I paid 899.00 US dollars had to purchase a Jackson case too, another 120.00. This guitar sounds thick in my Palmer Fat 50 and my Genze Benze Diablo 60. One of my best purchases. Thanks for the review Henning.

    Have no idea as to why people put a guitar into a certain style of music based off how it looks? If you listen to the sounds being produced from this guitar you will realize its fully capable of playing many styles of music!!

    I don't hear a fat sound at all. Compare it to any Ibanez and you'll see... The sound is open and the high gain is fabulous ! Now for the people who says that this guitar is bad because it's made in Indonesia, you could be more honest than that. I know, it's not made in the great USA... Stop lying to yourself; american guitars are not necessarily the best ones and have not been for decades ! I'm okay with patriotism but don't push it too far... For instance, think about the Japanese Strats. They are the best if we don't consider the custom shops ones of course. But if we compare them to standard Americans, the Japanese ones are better built and consistants ! The Ibanez too. There is no better overall guitar builders than Ibanez in the world ! Now, some Prestige Ibanez are built in Indonesia and are as good as the Japanese ones ! People from Indonesia are real people proud of their country and their work as anybody else... And take a few minutes and look for some pictures from Indonesia and you will discover how modern and rich they are. It's like they are more modern and advanced like 25 years compared to us. Take a look at Jakarta... I would buy that guitar big time : no problem ! Soft case ? I don't fucking care. I'll buy a Jackson hard case later on... The price of that guitar is so reasonable that it makes it a no brainier. Cheers everybody !

    I was thinking about the whole "thousand bucks and it comes in a cardboard box".. but the flip side of that, you take away the 220.00 floyd and the 200.00 set of pickups.. you basically have an Indo made Jackson w/ a quilted maple top for 600.00. I wouldn't expect a 600 indo guitar to come w/ a case.

    • @ryant3600
      @ryant3600 4 года назад

      Update.. got my Jackson SLq2mah in Caribbean blue last week. and when I opened the cardboard box, i was disappointed in the fact that they really aren't all that protected. Harley Benton is shipped w/ more protection than these. No bubble wrap, not Styrofoam just cardboard. But it was in perfect condition, so guess it was alright. I also ordered a Jackson case to go w/ it, and they shipped those separately.. you'd think they put the guitar in the case. But that would make to much sense.. ha. still all in all, i really like this guitar.

  • @arisl2370
    @arisl2370 7 лет назад +2

    Totally agree about these guitars at this price point just come with a cardboard box..Fender has been doing the same with their charvel models 2015 , 2016 & 2017.
    Guitar just comes with a tremolo arm ...talk about being Cheap !

    • @JonBingham
      @JonBingham 6 лет назад +1

      What about the other features you get for 1000? You get a real ebony fingerboard, matching headstock, neck through construction, real mahogany, real Duncan’s, a compound radius, etc.
      All of this costs money in manufacturing. Figure that if they throw in a case either you’ll see the price get raised, or, you’ll see the feature set get dialed back.
      I get being disappointed in seeing a 1k price tag on an asian instrument, but dude... these play incredible and seem consistent. I’d put money on it that these are better made than an American std strat ;)

    These guitars are great for the money. My Jackson SL2 is every bit as good as my ESP HORIZON FRII and better than my Musicman JP6.
    The neck and fingerboard are PERFECT. I am skeptical of Indonesia too, but this particular series of Jackson seems really damn good for the money.

  • @rolandlemus203

    I have this in Transparent Blue and it has no flaws build or finish wise, so there seems to be some QC issues there unfortunately. I think this was a very honest and good review. The frets on mine are so smooth, and it is so easy to play, and is a joy to play. The one thing I wish on it if I could wish, is that the neck was less robust. While it claims to be a thinner neck, and it is to a traditional "Gibson" version, it is a tad thicker than say a Ibanez RG series. The pickups are really nice and full as you demo'd. For the money, it is a good value and fun to play IMHO. \M/

    • @aliensporebomb
      @aliensporebomb 7 лет назад +2

      I also have the blue one and doesn't really have the issues illustrated with the paint masking. What I do notice is the SL2 Pro from two years ago with the three piece neck and carbon reinforcement is a noticeably thinner neck - this one is a bit thicker and more robust despite being a single piece neck with graphite reinforcement. The older design has aluminum cavity plates and these are plastic. These are largely due to changes in the factory used for producing these over there. They're both great guitars, just slight differences in the way they were built.

    • @rolandlemus203
      @rolandlemus203 7 лет назад +1

      I love mine, but I would like the thinner neck version, it is a minor thing, but not a preference that I truly enjoy. For the money, it is a very well built guitar, mine that is,maybe not his lol, but I guess guitar builders have off days as well, expensive ones for us though....\m/

    2 things that puts me off this guitar is the Piranha frets positioning, on the high frets from the 12 to the 24 fret the Piranha markings should be on the lower part of the neck so it would make it easier for soloing and not so confusing in the heat of the moment, not on the top of the neck, if they switched the position of them around i would consider purchasing one, why should the 7 stringers only be allowed to get a reverse headstock? make it for the 6 stringers too! apart from that nice looking guitar, love the colour.

      Lol, ironically I have just moved from Jackson to Ibanez.
      I have the Jackson soloist pro northern lights and now play an Ibanez Prestige made in japan with fishman pickups.
      The build quality is better and the guitar is lighter so it’s a big win for me. Plus the Jackson was £700 with no case. My Ibanez was £1500 with case and premium tool kit. Yes it cost double but a Jackson model similar was either a USA made £2k or a cheaper guitar with lower specs.

      Look upon it this way .. When Grover owned his Namesake company ..Did he ever put his name for a sub300 quid guitar NOPE .. ..But Fender who owns Jackson will ....and Fender bought the boutique maker Hamer .. guitars .. and they closed it down why !!!! . When Hamer had a history of building exceptional quality .. And I still have a Hamer Brochure , KK and Glen of Judas Priest played Hamer . . And one of Glen very unique models by Hamer .. inspired that recent model by Musicman

    Awesome review. I'm in Burbank Ca. I bought the Translucent Red version. Same coloring issue on neck. No big deal. I payed $699 (open box) Then I payed $25 for a three posisition Series, Parallel, Coil Tap mini switch wiring. It's a great guitar for just under $800 with tax & Mini Switch. A verry happy decision for me. No remorse. Love your Reviews. Thanks.

    I just bought mine (same Model but trans Blue) Made in 2017 and has the exact same problem with the finish at the neck. Not a huge deal but looks cheap and unfinished! Have no clue as to why they think this is ok in a $1,000 guitar as they seem to let them go out the door like that. Like I said not enough to return but not cool so to speak!!

    I bought the sl2m last week. (I prefer that 80s look). The price dropped for that also (it started at 1025 euros, now 879) which allowed me to add a hard case to my order. Also, the transition from oil finished to gloss is translucent as you say, because that is the way this finishing method is supposed to be. Gradual transition. All in all a great guitar.

    EytschPi42, I have a DSL 40C Marshall tube amp, Line 6 Helix, Jackson Soloist Pro guitar with American Stage cables. I am having some issues I need help with. Everything is less than a year old and still under manufacturer warranty. When I go to my friends house everything works fine with no problems. However, at my apartment I get random volume fluctuations. Everything is hooked up the same and I am using the same preset on the Helix at both places. I Use the helix volume as a master volume for everything. When I get a suitable volume for an apartment and then start playing The volume starts going up and down randomly. It goes from louder to too loud for an apartment and then back down again. This makes it where it is nearly impossible to play at my apartment.
    What do you think is causing this? Could it be dirty power in my apartment? Could it be I am playing at a lower volume so the amp for some reason wants to play louder because it's a tube and they work best at high volume? If it is dirty power in my apartment then would a power conditioner help or do I need some sort of voltage regulator?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since everything works great at my friends house I assume my gear is not bad, but it is still all under warranty so if something is intermittent I need to determine what it is before my warranty runs out.

    Henning, do you still have this guitar? Does it have neck flex? I just got the hard tail version of this exact guitar and it seems to have a lot of neck flex. Just moving the guitar around slightly changes the pitch. Putting pressure on the guitar with my right arm in normal playing will move the pitch around if I take my arm off and on.

    good review just got my own last week and right away dropped it into B drop :P the transparent tape part is wierd though. It's a bit heightened so it's not smoothly transitioning into the neck also why leave it for cosmetic irritation. Anyways other than that string height is low from the start and can be lowered even further to make those super ultra hyper fast shreddings possible so that's good thing and still strings has excellent decay time and not hitting the frets like in cheaper guitars. Off course this being "pro soloist" it wouldn't be without possibility to lover stirings as close to frets as poissible :) Time will tell though does it keep in tune. I also changed Low E (to .044) and A (0.42) strings like this so in drop B they sound fatter and not so clangy.
    All frets are super smooth on the end, but intonation tuners are a bit rough when screwing, they could turn a bit smoother to give a pro feel.

    The biggest problem with this guitar is the Trem. It'll last maybe 5 years. It's actually a Floyd Rose 1000 series which is a made by floyd rose in like Korea or something. The metal is cheaper and the nut pads will get string marks on them and eventually you'll have to replace them. It's the one let down with this guitar otherwise it's awesome!

    I like it. Jackson was the first good guitar I ever played back in 87. They had original Floyd Rose bridges and you could beat the daylights out of them. However, i also have the Jackson SLq2MAH and they come w/ real Floyds and they remind me of the good ol' days pre Rg's. It's a good system, i have been playing a lot of 80's hard rock/glam on it lately, been abusing the floyd like crazy and haven't had to tune up yet. Been staying in tune very well. I'm quite impressed. still prefer the original edge, but these are pretty solid.

      The Soloist models have Duncan Distortion pickups, and the Dinky has the JB/59 combination. Also, as the other comment notes, the Soloist is a neck-through construction. Also, the Dinky Pro Series guitars are made in Mexico by Fender, and the Soloist Pro Series guitars are made in Indonesia by Samick. Swings and roundabouts. For me, most recently, the pickups and neck-through clinched it, and I got a Soloist. I also, however, have a Dinky DK2 and I can say that the neck joint is well worth it on the Soloist as there's a huge difference in how the neck joint feels!

    I'm guessing the volume knob was moved to avoid having the trem arm hitting it when spaghetting.

    • @raytorvalds3699
      @raytorvalds3699 7 лет назад

      What is spaghettiing ? (genuine question). Is that where your strings are so loose that they flap all over the place, when divebombing the trem arm ?

    • @flekkzo
      @flekkzo 7 лет назад +2

      Ray Torvalds That's correct. If you push the trem down real hard (so the strings look like wet noodles) you hit the volume knob. Super irritating:( So I'd prefer a Soloist with the volume knob moved. They could have made it more symmetrical though:)

    The price these Indonesian made instruments are getting to is ridiculous! Anything over a grand I expect to have a case and be made in the USA! That's one reason I haven't bought a PRS is cause I'm not paying two grand and get a gig bag!

    • @T00DEEPBLUE
      @T00DEEPBLUE 6 лет назад +12

      Your expectations are not realistic. You've never been able to get a new $1000 guitar with a hardshell case that's made in the USA ever (when adjusted for inflation). Not unless you want the guitar to be a heap of junk anyway.
      I care more about the guitar itself than where it's made and whether or not it has a case. If I want a case, I'll buy one separately. Big deal.

    • @shane011471
      @shane011471 6 лет назад +1

      I agree that at this price point this guitar should not be made in Indonesia!! You will never get this made in the U.S for the price they are asking and forget the gig bag for sure!! This should be made in South Korea as many guitars in this price range. The first one comes to mind is Schecter . The Koreans make fantastic guitars and never had a problem with any of them. The gig bag I could care less about because if you gig with your guitar a hardcase is a must as a cheap gig bag offers very little protection and are just about a waste of time.. Just spend the 120.00 dollars for the Jackson hardcase!!

    • @shane011471
      @shane011471 6 лет назад +1

      Agree with you 100 percent!! BUT The chances of you having a problem ( Only my experience) is far greater with a Chinese or Indonesian made instrument as opposed to a Japanese or Korean made one. At this price point it should be made elsewhere...

    Not that it matters, but why would Thomann have it at €999 in Germany, and prices as low as €969 and as high as €1049 in other EU countries? There's like five different price points. Maybe you could ask?

      Yep. I chose my words poorly, but the point remains the same. Why would the guitar cost less in the Netherlands when their warehouse is in Germany?

    • @vdegraaf1058
      @vdegraaf1058 7 лет назад

      Probably because they have a 'we have the lowest price available' policy. And the company that sells them for less in the Netherlands doesn't sell them outside the Netherlands. So Thomann counters them.

The top nut makes the strings too high from the first fret and is impossible to get a nice action all the way up the neck. Awful to play. I am so disappointed. Sending it back for a refund tomorrow.

    How much abuse can a floyd really take ?

    • @liamcraven4936
      @liamcraven4936 7 лет назад

      a lot. Just don't change string gauge or action (while the strings are on). They are a pain in the arse for maintenance. But once you tame them, they're great.

    • @colintraveller
      @colintraveller 7 лет назад

      What's easier to maintain .. A Floyd or a kahler ??? How far can you pull a Floyd before a string or 2 breaks

    • @liamcraven4936
      @liamcraven4936 7 лет назад

      colintraveller, I'm not really sure about the khaler since I've never played one. But the Floyd's not too bad once you get used to. It just takes some adjusting to. And as far as strings breaking goes, I've never broken a string from dive bombs etc. Though strings can pop out the blocks if the bridge if they're not put in far enough.
