  • For decades, excessive sweat controlled Daniella's life. But now she’s found a solution in Botox and her confidence is back. Subscribe to ABC Science RUclips 👉 ab.co/2YFO4Go
Sweating is regulated by our body’s nervous system. For people with hyperhidrosis, it’s thought the nerves become overactive, triggering sweat without heat or physical activity. It’s a condition that impacts about one in 100 Australians.
Most people with excessive sweating don't realise they can get help. Some treatments include iontophoresis, surgery, antiperspirants and Botox. Daniella’s Botox treatments are usually 12 to 20 injections per armpit, every nine to ten months.

I have exacerbated hyperhydrosis and it's really hard to manage! I can sweat from literally everywhere, and I hate summers because of that. If having an operation increases the sweating elsewhere, I don't think I'm suited for this 😞 I would need botox everywhere after that. So I'm always wearing black, I refuse handshakes, I get paranoid when I have to do physical efforts in public, paranoid when I get up from a leather chair, paranoid when I want to show my collegues something and I have to touch their things... I'm always uncomfortable or paranoid about something, always making excuses. Living with hyperhydrosis is not funny

I'm so sorry! I only have it sometimes based on my hormones (I have pmdd and pcos), and it's the worst in my armpits and hands and can be rough any place being touched. It's like it pulls it out. So I've built my style on wearing layers lol. Tanks tops under ANYTHING so I can always take the top layer off and try to be sure that is usually looser around my pits and doesn't touch them at all. Any shirt that touches my pits is a no go. But, it got much better after I got off my ADHD meds id started as a kid. And then again with age. I'm 34 now. Still can't stand clothes touching my arm pits though... and still seem to get it a ton there.

Also, I do think the hand surgery might do you well because shaking hands is such an integral part of socializing. I think the little bit extra being POSSIBLE (not for sure) spread out through so much more skin, would really be worth it.
Just my opinion but I wish you well and hope you consider botox in at least some areas like pits and hands...

Feel your pain, I’m 68 and had it since a teenager. I’ve managed it for years and always wear black or patterns as shows sweat stains the least. Mine is everywhere but mainly my face and as it starts I get more anxious which makes it worse. We have just had two really hot days and I just wanted to cry but 🤷‍♀️ I’m going to try homeopathy next and if it’s helpful I will let you know.

I saw a Dr. online. Dr. Berg. (Here on RUclips!) He suggested Vitamin B1..or Rosemary or Sage. He said to start out with 4x's the amount suggested to kinda kick start the reaction. (4 vitamins/day) I have found a natural capsule of Vitamin B1 at Natural Grocers. It has helped a lot. I have had enough surgeries, and botox scared me.
Just a suggestion, but it may help!

They presented botox as this life-changing solution but the problem is that it only lasts from 3 to 12 months. Then you have to repeat this very expensive procedure all over again. Also, botox works for one specific area and hyperhydrosis is often generalized. There are drugs called anticholinergics that work for the entire body but you have to take it daily.

She's not alone. Mine started in my early 50s. My treatment will be a bit touchy. I have sleep apnea. That is being dealt with now for 20years. However, in 2007, I was diagnosed with ADD. It cost me my job at 45 years old. I'll be 61 this summer. Now I'm on a rotation of Amphetamines to keep me focused. Then to sleep, I take a high quanitity of various sedatives. Enough to tranqullize a volcano. I can't operate a motor vehicle for at least 45 minutes to an hour. You wake up in a stupor. Just like somebody that was drinking heavily the night before. Now, it seems my hiperhydrosis will be treated with meds. At this point, I feel blessed to wake up just to live another day.🙂🙏

I have live in a cold climate, and I sweat extreme all over my torso and umderarms. I can wear layers and jumpers and they will be SOAKED.
I am so so cold all of the time.
And no one can comprehend why I get cold from it. It's like HELLO? What the hell don't people understand about that ????
It's entirely a disability and it needs far more awareness.
Edit: Botox won't even touch it either. I've had 3x the recommended amount and it still did not work.

I sweat throughout my body to an extent that my body gets sticky as the heat strikes even my friends get icky and disgusted to touch me. However my armpit sweats the most because of it's ability to sweat in an extreme cold weather and the worst part is it's smells... unlike many others who don't smell even after sweating profusely. Sometimes I feel so restricted that even a slight activity can trigger my sweat glands and embarrass me infront of others not just because of sweat but the smell it will spread. Odour is something even the kindest won't tolerate moreover the one's who have BO themselves can't bear others unfamiliar odour. God knows how much opportunities I have denied due to this sick abnormalities I suffer. I'm envious when people swap their clothes with friends because their clother are clean from odour and sweat and other regular activities such as wearing the same clothes more than once and not having to apply antiperspirant every night and days of masking perfumes on your body just to not smell bad. I frequently change and wash clothes which ruins my clothes size and fabric. The antiperspirant have ruined my armpit but I have no choice but to continue to use because its the only way to not smell for I can't afford botox and it doesn't guarantee eliminating odour.

Another note is that some medications (SSRI’s) can cause hyperhydrosis. So if you are experiencing excessive sweating while on medications like those, talk to your doctor! :)

    • @cinnamoslut
      @cinnamoslut 8 месяцев назад

Yep, I developed hyperhidrosis from Prozac. Unfortunately, the hyperhidrosis hasn't entirely gone away since stopping Prozac. I was on Prozac for nearly a decade. I think maybe the longer you're on a medication like that, the longer it could take after coming off the drug for the side-effects to go away completely.
It's so much better than it was a few years ago while still on Prozac. People used to ask me, 'Did you run here?' when I'd just walked a few blocks yet was covered in sweat. Don't miss it at all! Now, it's been 1.5 years completely off of Prozac and I am definitely more sweaty than the average 30yo woman, but, it's not so bad and it's fairly easy to manage.
The sad thing is, when I asked some of my doctors thru the years, could one of my medications be causing the excessive sweating? None of them said Prozac is known to cause hyperhidrosis. It's a fairly common side-effect, so I'm shocked they didn't say anything.
