1:40 I think both films were inspired by the period. Star Wars was an escapist fantasy, i.e. escaping from the 70's and Eraserhead is the feeling of never being able to escape. In 77, life was crap for almost everyone. Vietnam just finished, there 'stagflation', that's where wages and production are stagnant, but you get inflation anyways. Muscle cars were gone because of the gas embargos, so instead, you waited in line to fill up your Pinto or Chevette. We were also convinced it wasn't a matter of "if" but "when" regarding a full nuclear exchange with the commies. I was a kid at the time, so I didn't notice how poor we were.
I've seen this movie twice, once in a theater and once on DVD and while I totally agree with your right to love it i just cannot honestly say this is a good movie in my opinion. I've read all kinds of defenses and interpretations of it but again in my opinion it's just nonsense. Just because something is avant garde that doesn't make it good. It isn't. In fact it's terrible but like I said if you like it that's your choice
I had a friend who was a tweaker and who would sometimes spent a lot of time talking about how great this film was. I saw it one time with him and was immediately underwhelmed and confused and so l happily went went back to taking acid and watching Paris, Texas.
Man we truly lost a legend with David Lynch. Eraserhead is an all time favorite of mine and I think you nailed it all on the head!
Awesome video!!! RIP David Lynch!!!
Eraserhead > Star Wars all day, every day, forever.

Why? It was crap in the 1980s.
Well, I guess you are a superior being. Most people find it disturbing surreal and moving.
@rini6 really? How do you know "most people" feel that way about it? Did you do a survey? 🤔
