Mert's Heart & Soul is my favorite soul food restaurant. Not just in Charlote but period. Owner/Chef James is the nicest most welcoming host who would come out of the kitchen and let me try a sample of what he was working on while I waited for my order. The food is ALWAYS delicious, and it's located in the heart of uptown Charlotte on College St. I highly recommend Mert's Heart & Soul.

I've lived in Charlotte for 4 years now and been to most of these. Im definitely a regular at Uptown Yolk...they have the best chicken & waffles in the city! I"m definitely gonna try Bird Pizzeria next!!!
I'm born and raised in Charlotte and these places are very overrated. Merts macaroni and cheese is trash. Cuzzos Lobster and mac is imitation lobster! Many of these places are playing it very safe. Store bought deserts and can foods! Many are not true southern foods.
@@deesteve4156 Crav'n Caribbean is a legit Caribbean spot! The only cons I can think of is their location which they can't help, and them being so busy which can increase wait times but their food is good! The portions are big too for the money!

Mertz and Cuzzo do not go unless you have tough skin attitudes if you say anything about the food needs to be remade or is not right or just doesn’t taste right bad customer service. Mariah’s Taco Truck, Oxtail tacos and wings like you’ve never had & Black owned food truck! You betta try Mariah, they are the best!!!Bobbie O’s is a yes!!!
I actually watched the DDD merts video before this one and was NOT impressed watching him cook everything. It looks sooo basic. Where's some places you recommend
Are you opposed to pork? I noticed that you didn't REVIEW any dishes made of pork, not even ribs at the bbq spot. You only highlighted fish, chicken and beef.

We're out here in Waxhaw too! Almost 6 years now. I'm definitely going to have to try more of these spots out. I've tried Cuzzo's and it was solid.

Sol Delish is rt down the street from Cuzzo's, had the Flounder, seafood mac and cheese and yams. Also very good.

Mama Gee's has delicious authentic Ghanian food!!! I have yet to be disappointed.
