    Weekend Watches with Tim Mosso is back on time with premier luxury watch brands Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and fan-favorite Sinn!
    Rolex features prominently in this program. The Rolex Day Date 40 in full platinum demonstrates the range of Rolex design beyond sports watch conventions. With its ceramic-coated bracelet pins, the Day-Day’s “Rolex President” bracelet promises longevity to match its style. A steel-platinum Rolex Yacht-Master remains one of the best buys among stainless steel Rolex sports watches; this one includes the outstanding sunburst metallic blue dial originally launched at Baselworld 2012.
    Omega watches are the traditional rival to Rolex’s finest. Today’s show includes a 1990s Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch and a current-generation Seamaster Aqua Terra in stainless steel.
    Audemars Piguet makes occasional but impressive appearances on Weekend Watches, and today’s Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph is no exception. As a 25-piece limited edition for the 2019 model year, this 430-gram behemoth is a rarity by any definition. Audemars Piguet fits a singular gradient blue dial using the Royal Oak Offshore’s signature “mega tapisserie” hobnail pattern.
    There’s no Patek Philippe Nautilus in today’s show, but the best of Patek takes center stage thanks to a discontinued cloisonné enamel 5131R world time in rose gold. A hand-finished caliber 240 HU provides precise timekeeping and a convenient world time reference. The Asia-Pacific cloisonné enamel dial is a work of art in its own right.
    Bulgari has taken the watch market by storm since the introduction of its brand-defining conventions in the 2014 Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon. For 2018, Bulgari launched the world’s thinnest automatic watch, thinnest automatic tourbillon, and thinnest automatic tourbillon… all in one watch. That 42mm titanium Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic is 3.95mm thick and a limited edition of 50 pieces.
    Not one but two sports watches from Germany’s Sinn Spezialuhren animate the discussion. A Sinn 104 pilot’s watch and a 2019 Sinn Arktis II 206 diving chronograph with blue sunburst dial ensure representation for German watchmaking.

    Hey Tim!! Welcome back to Sundays, great show as always, watching it with the morning coffee. We missed you!
    Dude, your videos are making my life a mess haha, I bought a two tone datejust this past week, and two speedmasters while you were away, the speedmaster daydate (or triple date) and a moonwatch reduced. I think I own 5 watches you made videos about but I never bought one from you guys, shame on me getting all this knowledge for free!!! haha. I'm telling you again, I'm buying one omega or rolex from the watchbox in my next trip to the US for sure (in a few months, honeymoon to hawaii).
    I don't know why I'm telling you all this, but this show makes me feel like I'm talking with my friends about watches. Oh and the app is perfect for following the real time value of my watches, and also to explore others.
    Great job again man, but my wife hates you hahahahahaha
    Cheers!!

    Glad to have the show back with my morning coffee. And you brought it back with a bang! The standouts for me today were the Saltarello and the Reverso, both of which are among my favorites from each brand. The quirky yet graceful Saltarello haunts me as well, and that Reverso is pretty close to perfect. Both are contenders for a "trade" of a personal grail of a different mechanical persuasion. Congrats on experiencing yours.

    Seriously Tim best show ever. The Vacheron & JLC's today were just 😍...I'm at a loss for words. I don't care what anyone says but those pieces are true works of art. I recently got my best friend into watches. She has 2 Rolex's & was tired of being basic so I took her to a couple of boutiques & showed her some good pieces. She decided on a JLC rendezvous with a steel bracelet. She is petite & super tiny so it fit her wrist perfectly 😇 and looked absolutely stunning. I can't thank you enough. I have been watching your videos for the past 3 years & learned so much. 😎 If Archieluxury is the pontiff then you sir are The Ambassador!

    Great show Tim. Just to add info to your 5131R presentation, in production for 3 years. The 011 is from year 3 and the difference is the city ring was changed for each year of production. The R was the first time Patek used white enamel for snow on the WT series. 👍

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  4 года назад

      All of this is excellent to know. There have been a couple of 5131 reference rings as Caracas has gone off the rails and Moscow has changed its mind a few times. Perhaps there's a few others, too.
      Best,
      Tim

    • @russell996
      @russell996 4 года назад +1

      WatchBox Reviews The 3 main differences were: year 1 - London is on the outer ring of cities, the red GMT indicator is larger: year 2 - London moved to the inner ring, as did all the corresponding cities that were on the outer ring, Moscow moved time zone and both Sydney and Brisbane were on the piece despite sharing the same time zone for 6 months of the year, red GMT indicator got smaller: year 3 - Brisbane was replaced. There are other differences such as the circumference used by Patek for the city rings (that is too geeky to mention 😉) - but at a quick glance it is easy to tell the 001, from the 010 and the 011 (your piece in the show) using the main differences highlighted. 👍

    Best way to start Sunday :D Awesome as usual Tim, and a great variety of watches.
    I especially like the Vacheron Constantin Saltarello, and the Jaquet Droz Astrale both are eye candy :D
    The Sinn 104 might be the best 1k watch ever made, in my opinion.
    But my favorite has to be the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic, what a feat of engineering and art.
    I think the JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual might be the best "affordable" luxury perpetual calendar watch to get, Its definitely on my list.

  • @leakedzebra

    Hey Tim,
    Do skeletonized watches have their dials carved/chizzled off or do they just have a dial without a watch face?
    A bit confused. Wouldn’t the latter be mush easier?

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  4 года назад +1

      Skeletonized watches feature dials or movements that have been cut away so that only a "skeletal" structure remains. "Openworked" often means same thing from a technical standpoint, but as a convention, it's also applied to watches that have almost no dial at all rather than a delicate "skeleton" of remaining material.
      Best,
      Tim

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  4 года назад +1

      I'm a Cosmograph guy as a car and racing fan. While the new YM42 is a very compelling product, I'd have to think long and hard about whether to choose the 116519 or the 116518; yellow gold vs white on a Daytona would be the only choice. Rolex's yellow gold Daytona/Oysterflex looks shockingly good to this non-partisan of yellow gold.

    The only AP Offshore that appeals to me...so much platinum and 430g, that’s nearly half a kilo...for a watch! Not something you could wear for very long before your wrist wilts!
    A big fan of this line of watches from Bulgari. An uncommon Journe variation, I haven’t seen that one before. Why are the Sinn’s here all one grade below chronometer? For affordability reasons when purchased new? Gorgeous Reverso!
    Sorry, but I don’t get the appeal of VC, or why they’re part of the ‘holy trinity’. They’re very indistinct, often use (or did use?) bought in movements. There are plenty of other brands that are just as finely finished too. And they generally don’t hold their value as well as a Patek or AP either (if you’re into that, me not so much)
    It’s also just another Richemont brand nowadays (mind you, so is Lange) and not independent like the other two. That skeletonized chronograph is very nice though.

      Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for your information Vacheron is the longest continuously operating watch company in the world. Going all the way back to 1755. The only brands that are older I can think of right now is Blancpain & maybe Gallet. Although the Gallet family’s foray into watchmaking goes back into the mid-1400’s it wasn’t until 1826 that the company’s name was registered by Julien Gallet. As far as value retention goes most of us enthusiasts aren't in this hobby because we want or need an investment. That is why the majority of collectors buy preowned. I'm sure you are aware that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally find nothing bad about them being a part of the Richemont group. Gucci is a part of Kering and Fendi is owned by LVMH. So I ask you does being a part of a group or conglomerate automatically erase all the history & achievements of those brands?

      Blake Star I’m not anti VC. And I’m aware that technically VC is the longest running watch brand. I’m also, like you not all that bothered by value retention of high-end watch brands, nor do I care that VC is part of a larger conglomerate. Lange is my favorite brand of all, and is part of the same group. My issue is in that it is referred to as part of the holy trinity of Swiss watch brands. And I don’t think it quite fits there, at least not anymore.The reasoning for this, just my opinion mind is...to be part of such a trinity you need a number of things: a long rich history, VC has that no doubt! Independence, to achieve that in this day and age is very difficult, and VC doesn’t have that. Unique trademark models that everybody knows are by you, as well as an influence on the industry that you serve as a whole. Patek and AP have those things, VC not so much. Then there’s that super high-end finishing, VC has that in spades like the other two big kahunas. But then so do many other smaller brands nowadays, like Lange, Moser, Journe, LF etc...that’s not a unique trait anymore. So in conclusion VC is no doubt a top-tier brand, just not quite up to that trinity level. Again just my own humble opinion, if others disagree, such as yourself. That’s just fine 🙂

    Throw worried glances at my wrist to see if my Bvlgari is still there, err no, the watch whilst technologically excellent is hideous, not something that I would ever buy or even consider buying. I just do not get this fascination for having skeletonised dials, many of you will love this look but the design leaves me cold, not only on this watch but on all other watches built in this way.

    Also I’ll just go out and say it. I don’t really like Patek. It’s just not my style. Their formal pieces are eh and I’m definitely not a fan of sports watches that you can bang around and ya know actually wear doing activities like sports.
