Excellent video, thank you for the breakdown. Im 4 days in to my 2023 and really loving it. I appreciate the breakdown and description of these things.
Can't say I've experienced much else offroad other than a WR250R I rented for an Adventure riding course. But so far it's done what I've asked of it and I haven't dropped it during the few cheeky times I've taken it offroad, so I'd say I'm pretty happy. It's a fantastic road bike too, really easy to ride slow or fast. I've felt much safer on it than my CBR250RR. You definitely have more fun on a motorcycle when it's easy to ride. I took it through some twisty mountain roads in the Grampians with the suspension dialed to "Sport" and it was great.

Great video. Like you I've been watching many videos about the KTM 390 Adventure. I agree that most of them seem to repeat the same information. Yours was very helpful and different. I'm looking at 2024 390s and I'm curious if you'd be willing to do a long term review now that it looks like it has been a year since this was posted.

Yeah. it's a bit hard to see in the video, but it's a 3D-printed part that I downloaded from: www.thingiverse.com/thing:5209957 Unfortunately you can't buy it that easily, as you're meant to 3D print it yourself on your own machine. But there are companies on the internet that can print files for you and sent you the part. A couple of comments to help clarify/correct things: - According to the dealer here in NZ, we get the European model for these bikes, so I would assume Oz is the same? - I've got the KTM engine bars on mine and they do a surprisingly good job, to be honest. I dropped the bike from stationary once on each side (one gravel and one asphalt), and got away mostly unscathed other than some scratches on the factory hand guards. The properly spoked wheel version is a chunk more expensive, so I opted for the new cast wheels, on the basis that I've got no intention to jump it/take any properly hard hits. Thanks again, great stuff!
Wow. You're right about the fork adjustments. I've had it wrong the whole time. No wonder the + and - seemed like they meant the opposite things. I'll see if I can change it in the video so that it's correct. Oddly enough when I've had the bike on the stiffer sport setting it's felt fine, but on comfort it felt too bouncy. Maybe it will be better with the correct adjustment.
There are the "2022" models that were actually '21 models that were produced early in the year, and then after that are the actual '22 models. Mine is from June or July. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember checking if mine was the later 2022 model and finding out that it was. They do vary a little between regions too, but I don't know if the software is different.
Thanks for sharing everything you learned. FYI, it does look like the older models can update their software, both ECU and display. I am debating an older model or its Huskie cousin that pretends to be a scrambler.
That ADV Japan guy had his KTM dealership update the software on his early model (white and orange scheme) and it works just like mine now. It's easily doable by the service guys but I don't think they do it often so they might be confused or outright say they don't do it, but they definitely can. My friend has the 401 Svartpilen and it's very different but also the same. The 390 ADV is more upright and comfortable, and with the footpegs and bar riser I put on it's very comfortable to stand on. The Svartpilen is more like a dirt bike but it has pegs that are thin and far back, so it's very hard to stand on stock.
You're somewhat correct. The 390 Duke doesn't have compression adjustment on the suspension, but the caps on the forks are different compared to the Indian 390 Adventure, so I don't think it's the same part. Maybe the Indian 390 Duke also has different suspension to the ones here. I'd be more inclined to believe that KTM is just trying to make the 390 Adventure a little cheaper in India. I imagine it's main competitor is the Royal Enfield Himalayan, which doesn't get adjustable suspension anywhere in the world. Personally I'd think it would be better to stand out with adjustable suspension, even if that comes with a higher price, but I'm not KTM India.
Speaking about external differences... You didn't mention the new cast wheels for the '22 model? They are redesigned and much stiffer in comparison to the older models. The anxiety for broken wheels in hard off-road conditions should be much less (claimed by KTM). Now they offer spoked (tubed!) wheels in the '23 model as an alternative, although you can still get the model with these newer cast wheels.
Looks like you're probably right. Website says "Tube type". It's not something that I'm too bothered about though. I like the wheels that came on my bike.
@SuperFrodo95 yeah I'm looking at buying one myself as my first motor bike. (I'm 57 hahaha) just got my learners I over research stuff always 😅 I'm torn between the ease of tubless repairs over having tubes, but I got a great deal on a New 23 SW. So I'll probably go the SW. Just because I can get it at same price.
Yeah. The tower is mounted to the frame of the bike like just about every other adventure bike. If you want a headlight that moves with the wheel, a dual-Sport is what you're after.
Anyone have heated handlebars on theirs? What do you recommend? As I'm sure KTMs are very expensive, if they even offer them? But then again, if they work very good, then I guess it's worth the cash. Like I say, 'I can't afford to buy cheap'.
Good handguards will protect your hands somewhat from windchill. But I have not experience with heated grips. I do often see Oxford heated grips around, but they aren't that cheap and the controller that mounts to your handlebars looks pretty ugly in my opinion.
was looking to buy one of these but after researching and watching reviews I think not...doesn't sound like the 390 ADV is too good at anything and I hear thr rider position is really bad.
Risers and footpegs. I got both which costed me around ~$145 AUD to install, the riding position feels really good now. I have the same ones as ADVInJapan, so check his channel.
Well it is more comfortable than cb500x Better riding position and suspension Its not that comfortable as a big adv touring bike obviously as no bike in this category is Try it yourself don't believe anyone
And on my 390 when I put knobbies on it I didn't need the traction control on the dirt and less I got stuck in the sand when I don't have Nobbies on I leave traction control on all the time even on the street but with Nobbies no only if you get stuck turn on traction control
Love the non-conformist angle. Super clean perspective from someone who's not waist deep into the motorcycling culture, despite the somewhat clickbaity thumbnail😂
They don’t tell you about the fuel tank cracking under fuel cap cover and under tank front mount leaking fuel on to spark plug starts of as a small weep keep tank full over I have two under front lower bracket one big one under fuel tank filler cover the bike will catch on fire soon or later
Great job champ, really. I like how you do a deep dive into the small things, which could end up becoming big things! Don't stop, love the 390 Adventure!
I've been thinking of doing another video later on down the line focusing more on the changes I've made to my bike, and the things I've learned. Maybe something going over other aspects of riding like the specifics of getting licensed where I live, things to think about when choosing a motorcycle, stuff like that. My idea is to try to dispel some of the fog surrounding less discussed specifics of motorcycling rather than repeat what all the big names say. I'm not very wealthy, I have to make each dollar count. So when doing a hobby like this if I have a problem I can't solve it just by throwing money at it. E.g. just one pannier bag costs more than all my camping gear. But a 20L dry bag from the camping store is $30... But I likely won't do motovlog-style videos. I don't think talking points while riding is even that safe, and it's a whole set of rather expensive gear that I'd have to buy.
Hi Mark, Best wishes from Portugal ! (I like to think some of the weather and the trails here are similar to Aus and NZ !!) PS if you are saving up for camping gear , do consider secondhand !! Many people give up .. Oh and my tent tip (I bloody love it for motorcycle camping because it has two vestibules… NatureHike Mongar2 (roughly $130 USD new)
Haha. Not sure where you got it, but my name isn't Mark. I actually found my mother had at some point bought a 2-person tent from Aldi some time ago and had left it in a box unopened, so I was able to use that. I did use it to go overnight to the Grampians and it worked out pretty well. I even made a custom ground sheet with a sewing machine at work and some scrap tarp we had at home.
Great video. For where I live, the LAST thing you want to do is come around a corner and come upon a black bear or mountain lion that didn't hear you coming. So, yes, I do want to scare the animals. They'll get over it.
I've seen mountain bikers riding through bear country having to occasionally yell as they ride. We don't have any large predators. A kangaroo or wombat that panics could cause a collision.
Interesting! you would think they are all made with the same features. An adventure bike should come standard with crash bars. Changing out the exhaust improves performance and less weight. About 15lbs lighter with the Akrapovic slip on...I put one on my Duke as well as beefy crash bars! It's more or less a street bike made adventure. Thanks for your input, it is very helpful. Aloha from Maui🤙 ruclips.net/video/MOTxjNMuhus/видео.html
The Akrapovic slip on is about $1100... Way too much when my priority is currently improving protection and getting what I need for moto-camping. If I really wanted an exhaust I would probably lean more towards the Dominator. It's a full exhaust with a cat delete, and I believe that system with a FuelX is probably going to come out cheaper than just the Akrapovic.
@@SuperFrodo95 Yeah, the Akra is way too expensive. Also it's just a slip-on, you save 1-2 Kg, whereas with a full pipe like the Dominator you save ~10 Kg. Hopefully I'm getting my 2023 this month, already have ordered the Dominator GP1 (200€ with dB killer) + FuelX Lite (160€). Way less than an Akrapovic and functionally much better improvements
More than twice as expensive, no rubber insert, and some people don't like them. I'd rather not take the risk when I have other accessories I want to get.
Can you please give me the exact order number for Pivotpegz, I m in the UK now but had Pivotpegz on my Kawasaki sharpa and loved them, I can’t locate any for my model ( 2024 ktm 390 Adventure) here ?
Ah. I've looked at their centre-stand before. But I'm hesitant to get really large expensive stuff from overseas. I'm more inclined to go with Australian-made products so I have some semblance of support and warranty.
@@motorista632 I had a quick Google, and I found another centre-stand from an Indian website called bikesterglobal.com for $64.74AUD or $43.33USD before shipping. No idea how sturdy it is, but it will probably do the job on a budget. I don't know if it's something I really want though. I kind of imagine it would bounce up and down since it weighs a fair bit more than a side-stand.

I'll see if I can change it in the video so that it's correct. Oddly enough when I've had the bike on the stiffer sport setting it's felt fine, but on comfort it felt too bouncy. Maybe it will be better with the correct adjustment.
mattimpey… good post ! Thanks
Kind of hard to hear what you say somtimes due to the wind.
I've learned a lot about my own bike...I have the exact same model. Thank you!
Great job. Do you have the windshield 3D printer design by chance?

I have a 2022 model but dont have the "ride" option. No idea why...
Dude that suspension setting sticker is so convenient!!! Thank you sir for this informative video
I'm looking at a used 2022. Thanks for all the info!
how do you have the mirro straight like tht
The Svartpilen is more like a dirt bike but it has pegs that are thin and far back, so it's very hard to stand on stock.
i have one question is the ride mode is 2022 or 2023 only have? if i want 2021 have this mode how can i do? thanks
A KTM dealer might be able to flash new firmware onto an older bike to give it the new ride modes, but I don't know.
Do you know if the many bugs are fixed from the 2021 model. Engine stalling especially. You seem to be well researched.
I've not experienced any stalling.
for minute 11.30. The Indian Bike as no Adjustable forks because it has the forks from the KTM 390 DUKe wich make the bike lower
I didn't even know there was a difference, but I guess it's reassuring that they're a bit stronger.
Still reports of people denting the new redesigned rims easily. If your doing any actual off-roading the spoked are the way to go.
Hey mate I'm pretty sure the 23 AW model are tubed spoked wheels not tubeless. Great video
Thank you for the video. I am about to bok mine. Just looking at reviews of the showrooms and the service experience.
Headlight does not goes with the direction of the wheel. Negative.
Yeah. The tower is mounted to the frame of the bike like just about every other adventure bike. If you want a headlight that moves with the wheel, a dual-Sport is what you're after.
You can also get a light bar on forks
Fun bike to ride but why you dint get bike engine gaurds..
No idea. KTM just decided not to supply them standard.
Thank you for the attention to detail
Well it is more comfortable than cb500x
Better riding position and suspension
Its not that comfortable as a big adv touring bike obviously as no bike in this category is
Try it yourself don't believe anyone
I will keep an eye out.
Was yours dripping onto the ground? How did you first notice it?
Dude what? Can you be a little more clear, like use a period or a comma here and there? Hard to tell what you meant.
(I like to think some of the weather and the trails here are similar to Aus and NZ !!)
PS if you are saving up for camping gear , do consider secondhand !!
Good video, thanks I have the same model and learned some new things about my bike
well done for keeping a quiet exhaust 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, super informative!
Awesome video. Penis Enlargement surgery went well, not painful at all. Can’t wait to see more from you mate!
I did not know asian 390 adv had different equipment than western 390s
Lovely video mate🌸
Great video. For where I live, the LAST thing you want to do is come around a corner and come upon a black bear or mountain lion that didn't hear you coming. So, yes, I do want to scare the animals. They'll get over it.
I've seen mountain bikers riding through bear country having to occasionally yell as they ride. We don't have any large predators. A kangaroo or wombat that panics could cause a collision.
thanks for motourenn tip!
Very good information 👍👍👍
Interesting! you would think they are all made with the same features. An adventure bike should come standard with crash bars. Changing out the exhaust improves performance and less weight. About 15lbs lighter with the Akrapovic slip on...I put one on my Duke as well as beefy crash bars! It's more or less a street bike made adventure.
Thanks for your input, it is very helpful. Aloha from Maui🤙
ruclips.net/video/MOTxjNMuhus/видео.html
Well done
No, get pivot pegs.
More than twice as expensive, no rubber insert, and some people don't like them. I'd rather not take the risk when I have other accessories I want to get.
Can you please give me the exact order number for Pivotpegz, I m in the UK now but had Pivotpegz on my Kawasaki sharpa and loved them, I can’t locate any for my model ( 2024 ktm 390 Adventure) here ?
thanks🙂
Aliexpress for you handlebar risers......brave man..... ;)
They're just machined aluminium. Nothing can really go wrong with them.
T rex racing crash guard is what I bought
Ah. I've looked at their centre-stand before. But I'm hesitant to get really large expensive stuff from overseas. I'm more inclined to go with Australian-made products so I have some semblance of support and warranty.
@SuperFrodo95 yeah their center stand is too pricey
@@motorista632 I had a quick Google, and I found another centre-stand from an Indian website called bikesterglobal.com for $64.74AUD or $43.33USD before shipping. No idea how sturdy it is, but it will probably do the job on a budget.
I don't know if it's something I really want though. I kind of imagine it would bounce up and down since it weighs a fair bit more than a side-stand.
@@SuperFrodo95 I'll check that
@SuperFrodo95 I also looking for footpeg from India that can be zone degree
Nice thumbnail ya damn bogan.
Wind
That air really do be moving.
This was the most helpful comment that I have read in some time. Thank you for your contribution
poor sound too much wind
Unfortunately I'm no motovlogger. So the best I could do was use a limiter.
great video, reminds me on what youtube was one upon a time :)
Great video thanks for the info.
