Don't think I'd ever seen this before either. The LP HMS Donovan was on my turntable throughout the early 70s; it was a part of our lives. Still brings on strong feelings when I hear it today... I believe that Donovan was at his peak of guitar skills (fingerpicking) for this album. (Not to mention nostalgic songwriting) You can hear him playing bits and pieces of the songs off HMS when he is hanging out with the Beatles in India a couple of years before HMS was released. This was when he showed both John and Paul how to fingerpick on guitar, and so we have him to thank indirectly for Beatles gems such as Dear Prudence and Blackbird among others.
It's always a pleasure hearing songs from Donovan's HMS (1970): Jabberwocky and In an old-fashioned picture book, and the outtake Winter has gone. Our great fairy teller! Thanks
Like it says above, this is from the DVD Sunshine Superman, a biographical story of Donovan, hosted by himself. It's 3 hours of nothing but Donovan, from birth to the time of the video. Get it. I'm sure it's available on Amazon.

Sad thing is, life goes by quickly, and all we have in the end is an "old-fashioned picture book" of memories (5:26). Footprints in the sand to be swept away by the next high tide. One of the few songs that provides a measure of solace is this one.
“HMS Donovan” is probably the rarest LP-album of this great singer-songwriter. I got outbid-den twice on eBay before I knocked it down the 3rd time in a span of almost 15 years !
Come take a look with me in an old fashioned picture book Patience, the girl we see on the sand with the squint and parasol low Sweethearts are sewn 'tween the cloth of her cuff A shell in her little tight hand; soon she'll be going away With her bottle of sand tomorrow from the shores of yesterday Come see her move and be in our old fashioned backward look Just like an old movie, talking and real like when it was took Bats, balls and Tomboys, cheeky and gruff Faint sounds of a distant brass band, who rides the donkey today Will our visions of tomorrow mingle with those of yesterday? Come, close your eyes and hear melodies from an old music box Tinkling as tandems and tears go tumbling like tresses and small perfumed locks Sweet dreams were sewn 'tween the years of her life A tear in her little kerchief, waving and fading away With her ottled sand tomorrow, from the shores of yesterday Will her visions of tomorrow mingle with those of yesterday? Come take a look with me in an old fashioned picture book..

One of the most magical things I've ever seen... in love with this aesthetic and essence in Donovan's music ✨♡︎
Epic 1970 era aura. So very magical. A magical time, never to be repeated. Donovan, is a time machine.

And that's why the little girl cries : She knows her childhood is slipping away.
And why I, and old man, cries: I know my life is slipping away... @axiomist4488
fantastic !!!!! great donovan.
That's the same tune as Celtic Rock from Open Road. Never heard the HMS Donovan album before. I see I need to get it.
You do. Listen to The Walrus and the Carpenter.

A matchless thumb on finger guitar!
What’s the deal with the 2nd song that plays here? Does a full length version of it exist anywhere?
Who is the artist to these drawings/animation? It's so beautiful!
+Airhockeylirare n (Borodinskaja) John Patrick Byrne. He also painted the artwork for "HMS Donovan".
John Byrne - one of Scotland's finest ever painters.
