- Avorion is another entry in the world of 'build your own spaceship' games, I took a look and found it to be pretty promising, in large part because it distinguishes itself from many other early access titles by providing a very complete universe to play in.

Heh. What's funny is it would have been from both the Amarr and the Gallente that they learned, both which enjoy curves with their ships, and yet the Minmatar went with sharp edges like the Caldari.
I see no Duck tape in this game.
I can imagine crusty Minmatar elders complaining that newfangled shipboard amenities like "toilets" and "hull integrity" have made the kids today too soft.
John Doe Ever see Clear Skies? There were some apt jokes to Minmatar design made in that series.

I love how THIS game has nicer smoother flight physics and lighting than even longer time indie games like Space Engineers.
Very impressive for such an early game. Somehow they managed to make big clusterfucks of greebles not look like shit.

I had what I felt like was a big ship, go about 3rd square in, and bam giant enemy that was covored in weapons and I die before warpdrive recharged.

If you think it has low textures now you should have seen the first or second alpha release that the dev put out, now THOSE were bare bones! I really hope that you play more of this, your the first major youtuber I've seen to cover the game, and its had a spot in my heart for quite some time.
Oh great, another game for me to feel terrible about my ability to design things.
Fun fact, in the Demo you can hire factions to design ships for you in their faction style. They're procedurally generated and allow for a lot of customization in size/design too without being so heavily hands-on.
@@captaintaz4673 But the downside to that is the ships look like they were grown in a lab, but still better than my building xd.

Wow never heard of this game before it looks neat. What do you do overall in the game outside of building?
EDIT: I just checked the game out it's quite amazing. They got a Demo on their site and they have a lot of features mining, trading, exploring, building, fighting, etc... Kind of the dream game I been looking for. I'm going to be starting a series on it soon I hope it seems like a great developer offering a demo in 2017. Reminds me of factorio and their demo also sold me to their game and my community.
i looked at it a long time ago, there was partial trading and faction wars so i guess that's what they aim for.
Oh that does not sound so bad. I enjoy trading / mining / exploring. I should check it out more.
This is not like starmade at all. starmade is a full sandbox while this game is an arcade survival. Also honestly prefer this game over it.
Just played the game not even Starmade for sure it plays and feels better and more like freelancer / x game. I'm uploading a video of the demo about 3k revisions behind then scotts video though haha.
i have seen a video of the developer showing the stock system, its thousands of little miners who collect stuff and others who are trading and on and on, pretty amazing. and i think the factions are actively fighting against each other to get stock market points or routes and so on.
Love the non-assisted flight model, I really rarely see that in space sims.

I recently learned that having twin ballistic turrets at the bow of my ship is actually kinda good for turning when all 4 of my thruster units get blown off by pirates.

I'd really like to see you play more of this, Mr(Dr?, Prof?) Manley. Especially with your superior understanding of the relation of physics and mass and forces applied to them in space.
A lot of players are ignoring simple things like placing maneuvering thrusters as far away from the center of mass as possible and thinking in terms of actual six axis, zero-g, movement.
btw, there's a roll mechanic (something most 3rd person, free camera space sims don't have) that will provide you with a huge advantage over any enemies you come in contact with since you'll be able to roll and present an I damaged side towards them and "broadside" them over and over.
Could I possibly use Blender (3D modeling software) to create detailed ships??

what i like about this game is that you can build a fleet and be a fleet commander and use your strength of the fleet to do some cool stuff just like in the X series games.
I'm interested to see what features the devs put in to distinguish this from Space Engineers. It looks like there's a bit of a vaguely RPG-esque questey system in there, and some space pirates which may be related, but they don't seem to be the focus of the gameplay.

i remember this game i loved it back in 2013 or 2012. it was so different back then though.

I'd compare the mining drone here to the basic pod of EVE Online myself, but EVE's is just an escape pod though.

never put guns on anything other then armored or hull blocks. they blow off very fast. armored blocks have the most health followed by hull blocks. after they blow off you can pick them back up after so long which you didnt do and lost one of your guns. also don't crash into them lol.
Can anyone please explain to me if u need hamachi or another weird program to play co op in Avorion?
I played the demo but failed to join my friends game and i have no clue how it works. Is the payed version different from the demo and can you simply join someone via steam without the hassle of setting up a server?

So, no n-body physics. I always imagine from sci-fi that once we become an interplanetary species, our kids will be playing games like Call of Duty that all employ real gravity, because at that point, rocket science will be taught in elementary.
Of course it doesn't have n-body physics. It's a multiplayer block building game. Do you expect every server running it to be a supercomputer? Cuz that's what it'd take to simulate n-body physics in a procedural galaxy with 1,000,000 systems. Hell, it'd probably take a supercomputer to simulate n-body physics in a single planetary system. Which is presumably why shit like Universe Sandbox doesn't use it either.
This has potential. I like the idea of crew and consumed resources. If your crew could level up and get ranks or even perks that would be cool. That would make you more invested in your crew and ship. This overall reminds me of the X series of games. Some big multiplayer would be cool to not just pvp stuff but with like safe areas and trade lanes and safe stations and some lawless zones with high rewards but pvp.
As much as I love Starmade for what it is, it sure is nice to see a voxel-based game that seems like it's actually trying to look good. Not that it's a super important aspect, it's just cool to see that for a change.

Seems interesting, depends how much gameplay and how many interactions and NPCs it manages to let you mess with.

I loved starmade but if you lost your ship that was it, at least you always have your little life boat mining vessel.
Looking at the patch notes, yes they have salvaging lasers.

hey scott, just started playing KSP after months of not playing it and i tried to install the astronomers visuals mod, i placed the files in the game data file as instructed and nothing worked. do you think you could do a mod tutorial, i noticed your last one was years ago
Mod installation instructions are generally in Read.Me files, or on mod pages.
either way, you also need the ESP in the right place
ok gave up on astronomers visuals and im using other visual mods, they work fine
I literally just spent four hours mining naonite, and occasionally fighting off pirates.
I really want to find some trinium, so I can make drones, so that I can make them mine, while I fight the pirates, and don't have to worry about mining anymore...
We're gonna make a swift GTFO maneuver :D

I was really exited by this but it requires openGL 3 or better and it's not supported on my old hardware. (ubuntu 16. whatever, on a Lenove X201)

Man, I love these kind of games. The whole building custom ships and such, exploring and other space stuff. I always had a thing for customization. Also, anyone knows if this game requires a great computer or if it can be played on a mediocre one? looks cool to play on my crappy work computer.

but honestly? as long as the game isn't terribly made, it could run on a toaster.
Thank God because my computer is quite literally a toaster, put some oil on it and you could toast bread. Maybe fry some eggs.
It will look like crap if you turn everything down, but yes, a mediocre computer will play this fine.
I know this is old but my intel cherry trail tablet just about manages to run it so provided its not a tablet processor, it should be fine. Also, online is easier to run than single player as some of the processing is done by the server

Video game logic: Since the event, 2 thing have happened. We have been completely cut off from the center of the Galaxy, and the center of the Galaxy has a new material in it.
So how did we find out about this new material if we've been cut off from it?

no man's sky has damaged the ore mining with lasers mechanics beyond repair for me.
Don't need to mine. Salvaging generators is the fastest way to get material.

Looks pretty cool, but I tend to get burned a lot with games of this genre, so I suppose I'll give it a healthy amount of time to develop before I bite. Certainly like what I see so far though, here's hoping it goes far.
