Vicky. I have tested both Teslas Y /3 and Polestar 2 and the Polestar 2 ride quality on 19” wheels is excellent in town and on back roads and on Motorway. I hated the Tesla ride and excessive regen and the seat belt cut into my neck as it was not adjustable.

I’ve just test driven the Polestar 2 on 20 inch wheels on very challenging roads in the South Lakes. The ride was excellent, very compliant, don’t know why road testers keep whining about it

Unless we lose the obsession (or change the laws of physics) with driving cars on bicycle size wheels shod with rubber bands it is always going to be a problem; the only way they ‘solve’ it is with expensive high-tech systems (Mercedes, etc) that read the road in front. Can we just go back to having tyres and forget about Nurburgring times?

I've got a 2021 with 20s in NYC and I think the car rides amazingly well. I've thought it was pretty solid when on rough pavement. They did have a 19 inch option but the 20s looked better.

The firm suspension is the reason it's so good around corners lol. There is an adjustable suspension option with the Performance pack.

I just test drove a dual motor P2 and i want one. It was amazing in my opinion. Question the dealer was useless at was answering my questions. How much does it cost to charge fully roughly and how many miles on average will i get driving normally. Thx

I guess it really depends on what you are used to. My daily drive was a Renault Clio RS, so the P2 to me is a big step up in ride comfort. But I still keep the Clio for the cornering fun.

I finally bought a used 2019 HSE FE Jaguar i-Pace and it’s partially due to you :=). shame Polestar being brought down by the suspension - and too bad HUD still not available while the prototype in the Geneva auto show had it… Polestar FYI : The semi conductors crisis is over !

We own the my24 and it comes on 19 inch wheels here in Denmark. Much more comfortable and very very suitable for a family with two children at 7/5 years of age. I find the sole focus on the lack of comfort takes an inordinately long time in this video. These things are something one could change if the need should arise. Nothing more nothing less. It become the only talking point in this video and i find that unfortunate.

Dutch Polestar 2 driver here... I was a hundred procent convinced she would say 'no Tesla supercharger network' as 'the big problem' and I'm really surprised she's going on about the poor suspension. Mine is on the standard 19" inch weels and it's more than fine, even when driving in Britain which I just did last month ;-)

I’m changing my 2021 launch edition dual motor for the long range single motor with the 20 inch alloys. It has the plus pack but I’m going to miss the pilot pack on my current car as the matrix lights are amazing particularly in the dark winter months. Anyway, if you want to know what I think about the car and the ride, let me know. Should be in it first week September 2024.

  • @XENONEZZ2

Anyone considering one of these would be better off waiting for the upcoming Audi Q6 E-tron which will have air suspension plus bigger battery, range and performance.
It will also offer more practical interior space too....oh and I forgot to mention an optional cutting edge tech HUD.

That ride is a pity. For me the same thing is putting me off a Tesla Model Y. While they are not expensive for electric cars, it is still quite a lot, so a smooth ride would be justifiably expected.

Polestar was once Volvo's racing skunkworks, but it's morphed into a standalone electric offshoot, jointly owned by Volvo and its Chinese mothership, Geely. Its cars are built in China, to be sold worldwide.

The Polestar 2 I drove for a week spent 4 hours on a charger for every hour driven.
It got about 80% of the claimed ranged. The rearward visibility is terrible and the back up camera is just plain weird.
I can confirm the ride quality in the 20s is poor.

I like the looks of the Polestar because it looks like the proper successor of my 2009 S60 albeit a bit more modern and higher on its wheels. The 2010-2018 model was a disaster in looks.
The performance is very nice because EV,... need we say more?
Two things I dislike about this car and one being the tyre noise and second it is not a true Euro car so to opt for a BMW makes a better choice for now, and for the future.

I always find Polestar reviews so odd. I've had one in my household for over a year (SRSM) on 19's and the ride is perfectly fine, it's the horrendous infotainment that's the problem with this car and why I wouldnt't recommend.

  • @jacobh5817

The ride is indeed a mess. Nowhere near of what is required for a premium car. I drove the Dutch 2023 model with the Ohlin dampers and only in the softest setting it was kind of acceptable. Then I drove the 2024 model long range rear wheel drive (no Ohlins possible on that model) and the car bounced up and down on any but the smoothest roads. It couldn’t even handle the simplest potholes. Eventually I decided to trade-in my 530iX for an i4. The M Performance suspension (even with 20inch) is a dream compared to anything Polestar has to offer.
On another note, Polestar’s trade-in program through Cars2click feels almost like a scam. The trade-in value they offer is an insult compared to any regular car dealership. The difference for my 2021 530iX was over €15.000 lower compared to what the BMW and the Volvo dealer offered when buying similar priced new cars. Sad, because otherwise I would have bought the Polestar for sure.

The Polestar 2 is without doubt the most uncomfortable car I've ever been in, in decades!
The suspension is unforgivably firm sitting in the front, and the back seat is like sitting on a hard wooden bench directly fixed to the back axle, assuming you can wiggle in the back without cracking your skull on the bodywork. I think all car reviewers should be made to travel in the back seat of family cars before passing judgement on the comfort of a vehicle.
I'm sure half the people who are stuck with these awful machines on a four year plan have to budget in regular visits to a chiropractor.
