- The room grows eerily silent as Jason walks in carrying Michael. Edward warns Jason not to even think of leaving with Michael. Jason tells Michael that these are the Q's. He already know Emily. She is the one who tells the truth and the one he trusts to watch over him. He carries the baby over to Lila and explains that she is his great grandmother. He tells Michael that Lila loves him. He then carries Michael over to Monica and tells him that Monica is his mother. Jason points to Edward and tells him that he probably has him figured out by now. He then walks over to AJ and tells Michael that AJ will never hurt him. AJ speaks to Michael saying that "Uncle" Jason is a bad man. He robs and kills people for a living. He tells Michael that Jason stole him before he was even born. After tonight, he will never see him again, if he has anything to do with it. Jason ignores AJ and asks Carly if she will go upstairs with him to help read Michael to sleep. Carly agrees, in the interest of maintaining family harmony, and follows Jason out of the room.

Jason has, more than anyone, allowed Michael to make his own choices, he doesn't get angry or scream because Michael believes differently or wants to try things his own way, he always sits Michael down and explain in a calm manner - AJ is the one who treats Michael like a prize. In this scene you can see the difference, Jason will tell Michael that the Qs are people who love him and will never hurt him even if Jason himself doesn't trust them, but AJ will say bad things to satisfy his own anger.
Everything AJ said about Jason (probably except for Jason being a "bad man" per se) was true. AJ was given the option to sign over his son or DIE - his anger towards Jason and Sonny was more than justified.
AJ chose to play the long game and try to get Michael back (albeit illegally), only his hatred for Jason and Sonny caused him to blunder the opportunity.
AJ and Jason: two of my all time favorite characters (this scene proves why)

Hot Chocolate, just because you're a sperm donor, it doesn't make you a father. A father is someone who acts like a father and proves that they love that child more than anything. Jason IS the real father here
Also you don't say the crap Aj did to a child and involve a innocent child in your drama the way Aj tries to do. That is the exact opposite of love and being a real father.

One could also argue that actually caring about someone and simply being angry because someone took something from you are two different things - but even then, AJ being angry as he is, shows no consideration towards Michael's feelings, he says what he wants even if it could upset or confuse Michael whereas Jason does put Michael's feelings in consideration, that even if he doesn't like the Qs or AJ, he will tell Michael that these people love him and will never hurt him.
THAT was Michael for a LONG TIME.
Lila was the only sane one of the bunch. Real nice AJ say that to a baby. Great way to be a father.
My problem with this scene is that yes AJ has every right to be angry but speaking the way he did in front of a child that would only serve to confuse and upset a child is just proof that he didn't really understand parenting - you keep peace for the sake of the children, because kids are sensitive and they don't need to be dragged into a war because of adults. However AJ feels towards Jason or whatever Jason has done wrong, he should have kept that to adults, not the kids.
Agreed, Beta. They always had AJ do the wrong thing in this storyline, though he had a right to get to know his child, which made me sick :(
virtual high five I don't know why but this gets more amped up. I think its because at the time I didn't see the seeds that where being laid back then and how it would affect the present....yet some of these same people(not all) why support Carly,Jason and Sonny in what they did with Michael and yet years down the road ask why aren't there more Q's and so on.....
I get AJ's feelings and he has every right to be upset but the fact is Michael should be put first, he shouldn't have to be confused or dragged into fighting by the adults - they are all mature people that can settle this without putting Michael's wellbeing at risk. And AJ for all his love and desire to be with Michael, did only more damage in his attempts - Michael should have never been dragged into a fight because of the adults, they all should have done better.
Don't remember Michael as a Baby nor seeing AJ then, must have been before my time! ⌛
AJ legit made a mistake and he never stopped paying for it. He deserved a relationship with his son... even if it had to be supervised. Everybody handled this situation wrong.
The problem was that AJ NEVER learned from his mistake. He never stopped drinking. And he didn't give a damn about Michael at this point anyway except that he could get him ELQ. He used the way his family treated, and it was awful, as an excuse to behave like he did. I hated him but not because of what he did but who he was and how he chose to deal with things.

He finally got one before Sonny killed him. He and Michael were on good terms at the end. I sort of wish he was still around today. I would love to see his acting on Michael him almost being burned alive. I also wish he and Jason had at least a chance to rekindle their brother relationship. A.J. should've gotten to at least meet Wiley and Amelia. He would be happy to see Michael around the Quartermains a lot more.

Michael was never anything more than a prize to AJ. AJ never really cared at all about Michael except as a possession to win over Jason.
When this story aired , I remember thinking there AJ had a drinking problem and didn’t have Michaels best interest at heart. He would fight in front of him which would confuse him. Jason as I saw it could was trying to keep him from all that arguing but he has the mob life. Out of the 2 I actually felt Michael was better off with Jason . As an adult now I’m not so sure.
another thing you say AJ treats Michael as a prize but from what I seeing the the one who treated Michael most like a prize was his mother something she used against Jason when it suited her and also against Tony. Part of the reason there was a battle over Michael and treatment as prize goes right back to horrific decisions made after Carly and AJ's ONS. Also in this scene Jason only gave good descriptions to those he approved of as if its his place to do that...its not.

if nothing else, this scene right here, where AJ says what he says to Jase, in front of Michael proves he never cared anything about Michael...prime example. Just sayin.

SK was a much more likeable verison of AJ when Billy Warlock took over the role... of AJ, the writers chanced whom AJ was. As for SK verison... not that AJ didn't have major faults when SK played him but, the reason I glad SK took the role back over now... is that SK's verison of AJ actual felt remorse for his mistakes... BW verison not only didn't feel it but was nothing but saying he was wronged and not anyone else.

I agree 💯 but consider the reason why too. It's when my maurice and Steve really ampt up Jason and sonny making it a mob Soap vs a soap about a hospital. AJ was one of the first of many to go down with the ship to glorify the terrible trio. 90s SL of this was great but too many great actors left. billy warlock openly complained about it. Patrick drake, dillion qaurtermaine left because of it. Doesn't mean they didn't get along but they definitely didn't get ahead seeing as Sonny and Jason were the leads. Ingo complained about it too but the worse dealt one was Billy (AJ) because he didn't hold back his words
I really feel that both AJ and Jason were trying to to do right by Michael but if memory serves me AJ had a drinking problem???

I couldn't disagree more especially in the early stages of Michael's life. Jason treated Michael like his possession naming himself Michael's protector, and who Michael needed to be kept from, as well who Jason deemed worthy of seeing Michael or who loved Michael the way Jason felt appropriate when it when really was not his place to make those decisions at all certainly not in place of Michael's real father.
@jasoncarly it can be argued both ways, but I def. see where you're comin from. IMO no one came out of this one squeaky clean....and one of my fav things to do is discuss gh...I welcome the discussion, even with differing opinions. I also admit I might be biased cuz I never liked AJ.
I don't know the context of this clip but A,J's words even now ring pretty true. I do like Jason but he was always doing the wrong thing being associated with Sonny and the mob it was like an addiction or something. A.J certainly had problems but he didn't deserve to be completely cut off from Michael and he certainly couldn't have messed up Michael's life more than Sonny or Carly did on their own.
Did you forget the time AJ kidnapped Michael and nearly brainwashed him into thinking since Morgan was born Sonny and Carly didn't love Michael anymore?

Only reason they wanted Michael away from ah was because he drove drunk got in an accident wit Jason in the car and Jason almost died . Carly And Jason we’re afraid that he would do the same with Michael
I see the Qs and Sonnys business as the same. Those Qs are just as bloodthirsty and power hungry...probably more so!

many years later when he came back into michael life he tried to be. AJ would not have acted this way if not for Carly
man michael never had a chance the only decent parent he ever had was jax..... I like how AJ is now being written better and being a better father figure for michael

It's sad to see GH ratings continually drop. The storylines are not as compelling anymore. And the family dynamic GH once had was over a long time ago. I miss the old GH 😥

At least the original AJ had some time to get to know Michael, but no, the writers screwed up once again and thankfully Sean Kanaan is a good enough actor to walk away. Tho it's better they killed AJ off than recast. Pffft.
