Sylvia most of the time it doesn't work when the guy is younger because guys are more sexual and visual than women also women have a biological clock and even if men say they don't want kids as they get older they do and the women is already to old to give them children. My parents had a 13 year age gap and were married for almost 52 years. They were married in 1967 only 7 months after meeting. When they met my mother was 19 and my dad was 32. My mom’s parents did not attend their wedding because my dad was divorced and had a child. About a year after marrying, my grandparents were very welcoming of my father. I’m remarried and my amazing husband is also 13 years older than me. We get along soooo well 😊

I'm so glad you mentioned the potential negative situations of an age gap. I'll be honest, when I was 20, I got really into alcohol and that's all I cared about. So I decided to be with a 40 year old because I knew he could provide me with alcohol because I wasnt old enough to buy it. And this guy turned out to have a girlfriend out of state. 😬 I don't regret things in life but I'm absolutely not proud of that.

Age is just a number to show how many years someone has blessed the earth. It should define anyone and say you can't do this or you can't do that. My mom and step dad are 15 years apart and when I found out they were engaged, my mom asked me if it bothered her that he was that much older and after seeing how happy they were together, I said as long as they're happy together then I'm happy for them and would love to have him as my step dad. As a newly wed, not only did I lose one friend but two friends who I considered close. I lost one because she said I was in a different stage of life and I was going to focus on starting a family (she decided to walk away from our childhood friendship although I was still the same person) and I lost the other one who was set to be a bridesmaid a month before wedding day because my husband had proposed sooner than her current boyfriend .... childish. Everyone has a path and different timing. It was definitely hard to lose two friends but grateful to have seen their true colors. You don’t need “friends” like that 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My husband is 22 years older than I am (I'm male as well). So for me it was kind of like "coming out" twice, first being gay, and second being with someone so much older than myself. It was pretty tough. Luckily everyone I told were mostly pretty open and understanding, at least to my face. My family has been very accepting even though it was a bit of a struggle in the beginning, mainly with my mom who thought that maybe it was a money thing, and was worried I was being used. But once I told them that he's not making a lot of money (we're making about the same amount these days), it started to get better and better. Not that that should've been an issue, but it was something my mom honed in on for some reason, that I was doing it for money, so in my case him not making a ton of money was a good thing in this situation, lol. It's tough because I think it comes with so many taboos attached to it, a lot of times it kind of reveals something about yourself that you may like to keep private (that you're mostly/only attracted to older or younger people), and a lot of people are just very judgmental about it I've found. As long as it's done on good terms, with people who are of age and able to make their own informed decisions about things, it shouldn't be anyone's business. But, like with most other things involving sex or relationships, it feels like everyone and their grandma needs to have an opinion about it...

I love seeing people with a healthy age gap relationship like my fiancé and me! We also have a 30 year age gap, I’m 30 & he’s 60 (soon to be 61), and neither of us have been happier! Love y'all! I get it. Gary, my husband and I are 21 years apart and married almost 14 years in October. He gets the senior citizen jokes and people tell me I look 12 so it's both ways. But we're happy and "real" like ya'll (no ulterior motives) and that is all that matters! Another crazy thing is the judgmental cousins or family members have been married and divorced over and over and here Gary and I all these years later still together! Time also tells a lot. Not that we have anything to prove but time does help people understand that what we have is real and true.

I love your story and your bravery! I have been with my partner going on 10 years now. He is 64 and I am 34. In the beginning, I never admitted we were together but my family started to assume. They never questioned and treat him like family. Coming out to others was different, luckily I don't have many friends lol But the one friend who, like yours, i could confide in was also so supportive. She was the person, ONLY person who i could trust with my relationship and information, unfortunately she tragically passed away unexpectedly in February :( I've learned to not give a rat's for the most part. I DO still care what people think, like out in public. but about a month and a half ago my partner was diagnosed with cancer (my absolute worst fear 😔) and honestly it's made me feel differently about being embarrassed or ashamed or anything to that matter. I am on a relationship of 17 years age gape..i am 24 he is 41. Since the beginning until now, we haven't felt the difference, i mean when we got to know each other and out of the blue we matched so good in different levels. I kept it a secret from EVERYONE until 1 year and a half since my best friend got to know him. After 2 years and half, we decided to tell to my family. I asked my son if he had thought about all the good AND difficult things like the age difference, the kids in his life and the roll he will play, the marriage and what an instant family entails. My son age 32 said that even though he does not want kids of his own (he always said that all his life) ... he will help raise these boys because he loves their mom immensely. Thank you so much. I'm in a 22 year AGR-- I'm 23F and he's 45M. My mom knows but isn't fully supportive. She tolerates it, but refuses to hear the word "marriage" in relation to us. Most of his family knows about us, and is, as far as we can tell, supportive. His friends are supportive. His son is supportive (24M). My friends are supportive... but I have yet to tell my brothers or dad (all out of state). My boyfriend and I have been dating for a year now, but have known each other for a few years now and have discussed getting engaged, but I keep putting it off and getting worried over all of the "what if's". What if I fall out of love with him? What if we get divorced? What if he grows tired of me? What if we break up and I hurt him after he's been hurt so many times? So many what if's. My grandfather who I was close with but passed away in 2007, he married someone 21 years younger than him which was my grandma. He was 39 and she was 18 when they got married. No big deal. Had 8 kids together.

When I told my parents (my husband was 43 and I was 24} my mom was supportive but my father stopped talking to me. Being very close knit usually, it was very hard for me, but I stood my ground. My parents had a 13 year age gap and were married for almost 52 years. They were married in 1967 only 7 months after meeting. When they met my mother was 19 and my dad was 32. My mom’s parents did not attend their wedding because my dad was divorced and had a child. About a year after marrying, my grandparents were very welcoming of my father. I’m remarried and my amazing husband is also 13 years older than me. We get along soooo well 😊

I'm so glad you mentioned the potential negative situations of an age gap. I'll be honest, when I was 20, I got really into alcohol and that's all I cared about. So I decided to be with a 40 year old because I knew he could provide me with alcohol because I wasnt old enough to buy it. And this guy turned out to have a girlfriend out of state. 😬 I don't regret things in life but I'm absolutely not proud of that.

Age is just a number to show how many years someone has blessed the earth. It should define anyone and say you can't do this or you can't do that. My mom and step dad are 15 years apart and when I found out they were engaged, my mom asked me if it bothered her that he was that much older and after seeing how happy they were together, I said as long as they're happy together then I'm happy for them and would love to have him as my step dad. They've been married for almost 8 years now and he treats me and my siblings as he would his own children and I love him and love how if needed I can confide in him for anything. 😊

As a newly wed, not only did I lose one friend but two friends who I considered close. I lost one because she said I was in a different stage of life and I was going to focus on starting a family (she decided to walk away from our childhood friendship although I was still the same person) and I lost the other one who was set to be a bridesmaid a month before wedding day because my husband had proposed sooner than her current boyfriend .... childish. Everyone has a path and different timing. It was definitely hard to lose two friends but grateful to have seen their true colors. You don’t need “friends” like that 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

My husband is 22 years older than I am (I'm male as well). So for me it was kind of like "coming out" twice, first being gay, and second being with someone so much older than myself. It was pretty tough. Luckily everyone I told were mostly pretty open and understanding, at least to my face. My family has been very accepting even though it was a bit of a struggle in the beginning, mainly with my mom who thought that maybe it was a money thing, and was worried I was being used. But once I told them that he's not making a lot of money (we're making about the same amount these days), it started to get better and better. Not that that should've been an issue, but it was something my mom honed in on for some reason, that I was doing it for money, so in my case him not making a ton of money was a good thing in this situation, lol.
It's tough because I think it comes with so many taboos attached to it, a lot of times it kind of reveals something about yourself that you may like to keep private (that you're mostly/only attracted to older or younger people), and a lot of people are just very judgmental about it I've found. As long as it's done on good terms, with people who are of age and able to make their own informed decisions about things, it shouldn't be anyone's business. But, like with most other things involving sex or relationships, it feels like everyone and their grandma needs to have an opinion about it...
DON’T dress like others, act like others or conform-just be your authentic TRUE self. 🙃😊

Being in an age gap myself. I too have heard all the comments and still do to this day. We still get the look. BUT I'm thankful his and my family and friends have stood by us the last 4 years. Then they were happy we got Married February 20 of this year.

I love seeing people with a healthy age gap relationship like my fiancé and me! We also have a 30 year age gap, I’m 30 & he’s 60 (soon to be 61), and neither of us have been happier! Love y'all! I get it. Gary, my husband and I are 21 years apart and married almost 14 years in October. He gets the senior citizen jokes and people tell me I look 12 so it's both ways. But we're happy and "real" like ya'll (no ulterior motives) and that is all that matters! Another crazy thing is the judgmental cousins or family members have been married and divorced over and over and here Gary and I all these years later still together! Time also tells a lot. Not that we have anything to prove but time does help people understand that what we have is real and true.

I love your story and your bravery! I have been with my partner going on 10 years now. He is 64 and I am 34. In the beginning, I never admitted we were together but my family started to assume. They never questioned and treat him like family. Coming out to others was different, luckily I don't have many friends lol But the one friend who, like yours, i could confide in was also so supportive. She was the person, ONLY person who i could trust with my relationship and information, unfortunately she tragically passed away unexpectedly in February :(
I've learned to not give a rat's for the most part. I DO still care what people think, like out in public. but about a month and a half ago my partner was diagnosed with cancer (my absolute worst fear 😔) and honestly it's made me feel differently about being embarrassed or ashamed or anything to that matter. It wasn't too long ago that the norm was arranged marriages and relationships ( yes, even in America). They were economic (business) decisions between families. I asked my son if he had thought about all the good AND difficult things like the age difference, the kids in his life and the roll he will play, the marriage and what an instant family entails. Thank you so much. I'm in a 22 year AGR-- I'm 23F and he's 45M. My mom knows but isn't fully supportive. She tolerates it, but refuses to hear the word "marriage" in relation to us. Most of his family knows about us, and is, as far as we can tell, supportive. His friends are supportive. His son is supportive (24M). My friends are supportive... but I have yet to tell my brothers or dad (all out of state). My boyfriend and I have been dating for a year now, but have known each other for a few years now and have discussed getting engaged, but I keep putting it off and getting worried over all of the "what if's". What if I fall out of love with him? What if we get divorced? What if he grows tired of me? What if we break up and I hurt him after he's been hurt so many times? So many what if's. I love him with my whole heart, but I start to over think everything.
I'm in a 24 year age gap relationship and my family and friends support us. It is all about your happiness and what's to be will be. If you and your man are suppose to get married and settle down and start a family, then you do so. Do what makes you happy, dont watch any face.

My grandfather who I was close with but passed away in 2007, he married someone 21 years younger than him which was my grandma. He was 39 and she was 18 when they got married. No big deal. Had 8 kids together.
As always you guys did an awesome job. I am not in a age gap relationship. However, my husband & I were engaged 6 weeks after we met. I remember a good friend saying when I told her we were engaged......'Are you sure? You just met him'! She didn't give our marriage 6 months. Well...we celebrated our 28th year Feb 1st of this year! :) You guys said it best...you need to be with who makes you happy. You guys are proof an age gap relationship can work. This question is more for Larry. How to overcome the thought of feeling guilty, unable to be with her for the longest decade given the age gap, feel like spoiling her future... when as happy as we are, the future for her becomes the biggest burden?

I think it takes a peace from God, and lots of reassurance from the younger partner.
