- Graeme heads to fish a lily filled lake which is normally the haunt of Crucian Carp and Rudd. But with a tip off from Dave Roberts that some of the fishermen were having success with a swimfeeder rig he decided to give it a go. Not the best of conditions with a bright sky and a starting time of the afternoon but with fishing you never can tell what species will turn up and when...Relax and enjoy some traditional British lake fishing.

Graeme, I struggle with my mental health and "found" fishing about 7 years ago. I totally relax and keep focus when I watch your adventures. Thank you my friend
No problem, you are not alone as many have seemed to find some sort of peace in my films so that's really why I do it. If they form some sort of distraction from the rigors of everyday life, even for half an hour then they must be worth the effort of making.
@Feckin Fishin Thank you. That means a lot. Sincerely
Fishing is the best therapy out there, stick with it 👍
I’m with you brother, I find nature is a healer, also I found yoga and meditation was my saviour. Maybe a silly question but do you know what the cause is?
@@garrymobey912 Yes, I do. Thank you for taking time to respond.
I used to invest in expensive fishing equipment, but I found that I enjoy a simpler approach to fishing. Thank you, Graeme, you're awesome!
I just use the same old tackle. I have been having some fantastic Pike fishing recently on a rod bought 25 years ago for my son from K-Mart in Florida..It cost just $4-99 and I have had loads using it.
Can’t beat a rod and float
Only ever coarse fished twice in my life (life long fly angler) but recall fishing a place called Effy’s Pond with my ex father in law some 30 years ago for tench. By the end of the day I’d had 83, and he still beat me!
Anyway, retired now and I’m just awaiting the arrival of a dual tip 12’ rod to start learning coarse fishing tactics. This means your videos are invaluable to me, so a big thank you to you. Rev Kev.
Hi, Graeme. Another good video. I agree with you about people saying " You shouldn't have your rods up in the air". Rubbish. It's normally the ones that turn up with 3 grands worth of gear and have trouble catching a cold. I used to get this a lot fishing in Ireland. Just for a laugh my brother entered an open match at Belturbet one year and came 3rd with 185 lbs of bream & hybrids, but of course, the matchmen said he was lucky! Best wishes to you and your family.
i love watching ur uploads thank you for everything you do for the hobby... u truly r totally awesome... from northern Wisconsin thank you keep on casting....
Thank you for sharing this session Graeme. Love your comment about the "you must" brigade. Totally with you on this 😀
Thanks mrP. always enjoy your videos you are a fishing legend!!!
Up there with the best...
I took my grandson fishing last week, and among many carp we caught some tench. He was amazed at their slimy skin, but loved the look of them. Great pleasure in bringing on the next generation and I’ve introduced him to your channel as your humour and basic knowledge is perfect. Thanks for what you do.
Great Video and tips as always Sir. Many thanks for sharing!
Brilliant as usual Graeme, watching your videos is the next best thing to going fishing for me.
Beautiful tench Graham. 👍🎣
The best time for me to watch your videos is bed time and I’m totally relaxed 👍lovely setting, keep up the good work Graeme
Pleased the films help...now if I could just apply that to myself ??? The older I get the more a good night's sleep is a priority.
‘Potenchially’ the most loved summer fish if Barbel is an autumn fish. Thanks for doing what you do Graeme 👍
What a nice afternoon out. Thanks for taking us along Graeme!
Great video Graeme some great tips and some great fish thankyou .
As always great vid Graham. I’m with you as it turns out the fishing has changed over the last fifty or so years. The first hour of darkness and the last hour was always Tench time just about everywhere you fished but now Tench are often caught during the day at most fisheries . Glad to know that there’s other old geezers who remember the golden age of fishing, when spending time outdoors was more important than sitting in front of a game console or television.
That's a Brilliant Venue and what a great Session Graeme
Great afternoon out Graeme , a few nice fish plus lovely and quite . I’m very jealous , good luck on the next one mate .
Doing what works for you and constantly thinking about what's happening on the day - universal sign of a good fisherman!
Looks amazing place love tench 👍🎣👍🍺
Hi Graeme .Good could content & some nice Tench as well. We are about the same age,
so we have been around a while but I still pick up some welcome tips proving that you are never too old to learn. Cheers.
If I was catching tench like that Graham I would be happy as a pig in muck. Beautiful fish. 👍
Mental health therapy at its finest! Great video!
Thanks for all your great uploads Graeme.
Yes Graeme, I had one of those officianado's telling me I shouldn't have the 'tip' rod pointing up. While he was reading me the Feeder fisher's Almanac, I hit into a nice Bream. I looked behind me and he was already 'on the hoof'. That Bream, though not huge, had put a smile of my twice. 🤭
Great vid as usual Graeme. Keep em comin'
it was a surprise to see you actually spending money on hook bait and groundbait additives....................We all know how tight you are with money 😃😃
The old saying.." a fool and his money are soon parted" still springs to mind. I think it dates back to Victorian times.
Love fishing lakes like this. I had similar day last week. Caught some nice crucian's and skimmers.
What a fantastic selection of tench, I need to have another go at some cage feeder fishing, great tips
Love your videos Graeme and watch them all the time and you have some great tips and I just have been very busy lately with work but when I am on the bank I always use your tips especially when ledgering I notice that if I put a shot on with worm or whatever the bait on the river usually they take it on the drop just after casting when it is rolling bang they take it great tip especially after baiting the swim when tackling up first cast on the drop any way I’m back on the banks and watching your videos keep up the good work and good luck from Ireland 🇮🇪 and tight line’s 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Pleased some of the tips helped you. Its just what I do a lot of the time so I try to pass tips on. Always gratifying when someone tries one and actually pick up the extra fish.
Pesky ducks! I remember back in the 90s at the old mill at Aldermaston, my younger brother striking as the rod tip went over. He was on the other side facing the main weir. We realised he had struck into the foot of a duck and it had become airborne!! The commotion getting it back in to unhook it! Especially as there was a wedding and the guests had come outside onto the lawn! Mercifully, someone had hooked into a nice barbel next to then and they were concentrating on him. Love the tench, keep them coming.
I like that story as I have fished the weir there...apparently not what it was for Barbel though. I got my p.b. there downstream of the weir one evening but then it was luck as I don't go fishing targeting big fish,I don't have the time, but I'll take a bit of luck any time...
Totally Awesome as ever
You could always tie a band onto your mainline then put the pellet you will be using as hook bait into the band then tie a knot less knot back through the hook and you will always have the correct length of hair rig .Or tie a grinner knot or lassoe knot then you can adjust the hair rig to suit again the pellet size . I never buy ready made hook links .for the reasons you put forward in your video. Thanks Graham been watching you and Smith for years 👍👍👍👍
Friday nights viewing sorted 🎣💪
Hello from Australia. We fish in a more haphazard way than you do over there. We used to have tench here before the carp took over. I caught a Murray cod. (one of our iconic species) on cheese (yes, you heard it right) not so long ago. It measured 70cm.
Hi Australia,thanks for the comment.
Milton lake is one of the best crusian Carp lakes in country tench also fantastic beautiful well worth signing up to now as a membership only complex 💜🇬🇧
Hello Graeme, yep its a nice little place to fish, great video as always, and your the man with the channel, im off tomorrow, hoping for some Tench,
all the best, looking forward to all your new videos, thank you for these.
Good luck with the" Greenbacks "...may they stretch your string to the limit !!
@@TAFishing Hello mate amazing day, all the best, have a nice weekend.
My Dad would like this lake x Mr Milton😊
Sat in BANGKOK airport catching up on your vids, good catch of tench there Graeme. Btw I went fishing 3 times day ticket water and 3rd day I landed my first siamese carp. Quite a beast too amongst plenty of other new species.
All the best :)
Good luck with the fishing ,sounds like you are getting among the big fish.
@@TAFishing Thank you, on way back to old blighty now , the weather looks good so that's a bonus :)
Beautiful Tench.
Enjoyed that. Good weather in forecast so might follow suit in the next few days
I am thinking of starting a baiting up campaign for Tench now the weather is starting to look settled.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who occasionally misses rings when setting up. @ 27.02 you missed the second ring with the line. With me it's always after I've tied some intricate rig, bait up, just about to cast and ......then notice it.
It can be annoying, particularly with all the intermediate rings on a 13-foot match rod.
Looks nice.
I was surface fishing the other day using floating bread for carp. What a surprise, first fish was a tench! That looks a lovely lake to fish.
I bought a pair of those Avon rods last year, I recently used them and they are absolutely amazing, 1 1/4 TC and the action is perfect
nice one graeme//
Very nice
Good tip with shortening the length of the bait from hook, I’ll remember that one!
On the apparent difference in pellet sizes. I suspect the pellets size in mm is based on the die hole size of the pellet press but some pellets are formulated to stay dense and compact and others are expanding after pressing. So the 8mm might have passed through an 8mm die and then expanded to be a less dense pellet, therefore the difference compared to a compact and denser 6mm pellet looks to be more than the 2mm you'd expect. Keep up the videos, you're inspiring me to try some freshwater fishing as well as beach fishing.
(btw, I've spotted Hi Sea Drifter locally!)
A really good Friday watch
Tench beautiful fish ❤
It's funny in the uk you can catch tench most of the year , however there is something magical about catching them in spring
I've actually had some really nice rudd and roach float fishing with a banded pellet Graeme, seems to keep the smaller ones away since they can't take it and I end up with the occasional carp/tench aswell
Always nice to have a bonus fish or two.
Happy Friday Boys✌
and Happy Friday to the women!❤
I thought Bury Hill had closed down last year? Had a couple of cracking sessions on Milton with the Crucians and was gutted when told that it would be no more from November
Nice tench!
Graeme I was travelling through Dorset bout 5 weeks ago heading for Shaftesbury when I drove past this guy that was your complete double wondering if it was you my friend,oh by the way love you videos buddy
Not me,I have been nowhere travelling for some months, but amazed there are actually two people in the UK so good looking !
The best ever BAIT for big carp is KRAFT CHEESE SLICES ,caught loads on strip 3 years ago ,a fisherman next door had help me with his landing net ,
Thanks G
I love that lake. its one of the prettiest places to fish. Just need to find an equivalent one that isn't members only now. Ant recommendations from anyone in the SE?
Good watch Graeme...
I use to drizzle the pellet enhancer over my steak - yummy!
I'm not going to Burry Hill anymore... I've been last summer to fish on the Bond Lake.. they did pump water all day long.....no catch... waste of time.. waste of money... waste of petrol... They should advertise online on their website when they are pumping water and make the water muddy...... Anyway I did find a better place and cheaper than Burry Hill... with great captures... between 5....10 kg a piece
I’m off after tench on Sunday can’t wait
Good luck..its coming into prime time for them now.
Hello Graeme
Can yoou still fish the main/old estate lake ? Use to go on the punts and fish by the jungle 😊
Also would have loved to have lived in 1 of those houses along the main Bank
I believe it was all being sold ,but if you check on their Facebook page there might be more information. I never did much fishing in the jungle area . I doubt we will see the like of an Estate lake and setting on a day ticket like that again. And the Carp fishing was pretty reliable too !!...
i so wish you would do a video for the people who know how to fish and just tell a few tails as you must have loads.
Another brilliant video .
That lake was very picturesque.
And more tips on tackle.
Seeing the kit set up is really helpful.
Did you get anycarp during the night ?.
Certainly did,but that's another film.
Summer begins on 21st June. I wonder what year this was filmed.
I think summer actually began a couple of weeks ago here in the UK. There is a big Festival that covers it called Beltane ?? We were actually scheduled to film it several weeks ago. June 21st is the longest day so Summer doesn't begin then,on the 22nd June Summer is actually waning with the days getting shorter.
👍👍👍
I prefer to use natural baits being a tight git.
I do understand why tackle shops encourage you to have the latest gear.
I have tried a few of the "modern" pellety weird/fluoro flavours and colours and caught next to sod all !!...I drop to maggots/worms/sweetcorn/trout pellet and away we go. I find old school baits still work fine for me,though I will say some of the modern swimfeeder groundbaits are worth a try. They can make a difference with the way they break up.
I thought they shut old bury
Main lake.
putting the hook through the band wont give the hook room enough to sink in.always pays to have that gap on hair to allow hook to turn and hook mouth.hooking through band fish can pick up and spit out without you even knowing.good vid though
But he caught 5 tench doing that way, so it must work.
Good job the fish don't read that or I would never catch anything. What about all the Barbel and Chub caught on rivers where no hair rig is used, just the hook through the band. In fact thinking about it I have never used a hair rigged pellet on a river ,always hook through band. Its a case of if it works for you then use it.
What a shame the old lake was sold off.
It was a classic Estate lake with good older Carp in it.I did enjoy fishing there,a large part due to the setting it was in. I doubt the British angler will ever get to fish that type of venue on a day ticket again.
Evening Graeme, looks very nice down there.
You need to get your rods close to the water, with as much line sunk as possible. You only have your rods high. Like that for river fishing when you need as much line out of the water. Looks very strange with those rods high. Like that. Just my opinion
The more line in the water the more chance of a fishing swimming into it and giving a false or "line" bite. I have a film up on "High stack" fishing where I put the rods even higher in a beach tripod rest...and still caught loads...I don't do the "you must" type of fishing and like to experiment...the fish don't seem to mind and that's the main thing. Its whatever works for each individual.
