One VERY exciting piece of news and my enamel pin revel! These are the first enamel pins I ever made, and I love them! I will have a vide coming soon to show you how to make your own pins yourself! I'm also getting ready for Inktober in this one, so come on in to my Northwoods studio and have a little chat with me!

Ferris wheel!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaa! Wooooowwww! So cool!🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm only halfway through the vlog and I have to tell you that I'm so grateful that you are as open about your chronic illness as you are as I'm chronically ill as well (rheumatoid arthritis) it makes me not feel alone. Thank you so much for that!
I am so glad it means something to you! One of my goals with this channel was to do what I could to educate people about chronic illness and make it more normalized. It's a HUGE part of my life, something I battle Everday. Why should I have to pretend I'm fine when I'm not? There's this stigma about chronic illness, and it just isn't right. I just got tired of all of the pretending a few years ago and said the heck with it! I am so glad I can help you even if in a small way! Thank you for watching!

Also Linda beginners mind art mind is another RUclips that deals with chronic illness and talks openly.
@@jessbutterfly1934 I will check her out. Thank you!
@@jessbutterfly1934 Thank you for the recommendation, Jess! I will go check her out!
Beautiful pictures of your trip. I miss Lake Superior on the Duluth, Minnesota side. Your bird paintings and other Art is so beautiful. The bird paintings, so nice. Love your son with the Budgies! Lol. Thank you for everything.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate it! And my son loved the budgies as well!
I love Ferris Wheel inks they are lovely and the packaging is amazing. Congratulations well deserved. Love the opening of your video it looks so serene and beautiful. Looking forward to what coming next take care 😊👩🏻🎨
I have a strange suggestion that i found fun to use Charvin has a very super affordable water soluble square pastel that i enjoy underpainting with!! Something about these is so different and fun! I thin jerrys or amazon sells them around twnenty last i checked😊❤❤❤❤
Totally agree. These are super overlooked. Charvin is an old French art supplier, and these are so versatile!
Love the art chats! Go for the membership, you are awesome. Don’t underestimate yourself. And you look wonderful! Hang in there!
Thank you so much!! I needed some encouragement today, so glad I was reading comments! Thank you!
Yes please to the fall self care kit!!❤
Fall is my favorite too! It’s so lovely, cool and crisp!🥰
I am looking forward to the shop opening and will try to snag a pin; I love them both but echinacea is my favorite flower to paint. Hang in there with the Crohn's. My ex was diagnosed in 1973 and there was little to treat him other than surgery. Summer and heat is my bad time of year; I have had migraines for over 60 years. Watercolor is one of my self-care and my favorite thing to buy myself is paper!! I make my own sketchbooks and enjoy them very much. You steered me to Domestika and I just bought some classes for $7.99! Summer will soon be over for me and fall will go by quickly for you. I am glad you are surrounded by family and friends. Love you, I pray for you and I watch all your videos. THANKS
I have multiple autoimmune diseases. I’ve spent decades looking for things to help make me feel better. I found something that’s showing lots of promise after using it the past month and a half… it’s called Armra which is bovine colostrum. I put a scoop (which is really small) of the powder straight in my mouth first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Then, at night, Two hours after my last meal, I do the same thing. I just drink water with it. Don’t use with hot beverages as it destroys the bioactive compounds in it. You may want to try it. Hugs!❤
How exciting...your ink arrived. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
Thanks for the video - and congrats on (1) getting the ambassadorship (2) passing the 3,000 subscriber mark. Sorry to hear of the health issues - definitely hope they clear up for you and that you then get a free pass with no flare-up in Fall this year. I'm not a sticker type of person and, being a 70 year old bloke, pins probably won't work for me - but I'll definitely drop by the shop when it opens and if there's any washi tape left over I might try some of that (always useful in sketchbooks). Take care and enjoy the last few days of the summer break with your kids. Kind regards, Brian.
Very pretty inks and fountain pens. I love pen and ink art!
Me too! It was the first thing I got into after graphite and it will always hold a special place in my heart!
You look really pretty in this video.😊 I hope this means you’re feeling better and doing well. Love the pins!
Congrats on the ambassadorship! Oh my goodness, I just checked out their website. It wouldn't let me use your discount code because I had inadvertently clicked on their first time customer discount and it wouldn't let me change. That one is only 5%. Oh well, I am sure there will be a next time...lol....and I am not considering this to be an art supply because this is for journaling purposes so it won't go against my no-buy. Very clever of me, don't you think? hahaha.
Oh so many budgies! Are those at your family’s? Looks heavenly! Such a wonderful aviary!
Love your enamel pins ❤.
I understand chronic illness- psoriatic arthritis. I’m supposed to start Humira again, just a little afraid due to being 68 years old.
Were you off it for a while? I've been on that one and developed antibodies to it. I don't normally give advice, but if you were on it before, be very careful if you are starting it again. My doctor would never let me restart a biologic that I had been off for a while. I hope you find a treatment that works and I know how scary it can be. Just know you aren't alone!
love vlog seems like you have, a pastel night mere hahahaha good luck find something that you like to use. Makes feel happy.
Thankyou for sharing xxxx . Going to hopefully get 20 set Pure Panpastels , as they seem cost effective for me needs .. will mix my Colors as I go
Thankyou for sharing all you fun news and all your fun xxxx Happy Art
I would love to see your self care kit. I suffer with arthritis and get a lot of pain in my legs and arms. Hope fall this year isn't too bad for you.
I'm sorry you've had to suffer. I hope you've found a way to bring some comfort back into your life! And thank you for the feedback on the self-care kit! I think I am going to share it! Thanks for watching!
Love the pins and stickers Amy. Great job! x Nell.
Thanks so much! I am so glad you like them, Nell! Thanks for watching!
Those pins look so pretty ❤✨
I am so glad you like them! I'm really excited! they are the first pins I have ever made!
Amy, I am so glad that I found your site. You’re such a fun person and I love your personality. You have already taught me a lot. I am a fairly new artist myself but it is my understanding that when you use chalk/hard pastels it’s best to apply them to a paper with tooth like pastelmat because if you do not the chalk pastel can literally fall off of a smooth surface, please correct me if I’m wrong, but this is my understanding. I have not used pastels yet. I’ve just been watching a bunch of videos on them. I just ordered my first Rembrandt pastels today and can’t wait to use them!
To some extent, yes, you are right. A few layers will stick to unsanded surfaces, but not many. Then, any layer you try to do above that will fall off. Sanded surfaces are better, because they hold more layers. OF course, there are things you can do to get more layers, even on an unsanded surface. Things like workable fixative, although many pastel artists refuse to use any sort of fixative at all because they tend to dramatically darken the colors. Hope that helps! And I am so glad you have been enjoying my channel and it has taught6 you something! It means so much to me! Thank you!
I thought of something you might eventually consider for your shop, scarves for women from a watercolor print! I’ve seen them sell very well from other shops.
enjoyed the intro, a little Vlog - wow especially the budgies, soooo many beautiful budgies!
I do cross my fingers if you apply to the PSA, I am dreaming of doing the same for a simular one to coloured pencils and the World Watercolour Society, but I am very shy and I don't believe in my skills so I do not think it will happen.
I remember your video where you spoke about being rejected from the gallery. Feel that so much. I think it could discourage me so much I would not do art any more or at least don't share it. Maybe I should start a RUclips channel as well 😅
I love the inks and the pins. tfs.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for watching!
Im also burnt out this summer,,, awaiting for my last little one to start preschool😢 both happy and sad , i feel like i gave up art time for me this summer and focused just on the kids ❤
I’d love to see a review on soft pastels. I took a class this summer with a master pastel artist. She recommended Sennelier or Terry Ludwig. Beautiful but expensive! Bummer about Nupastels.
Please do share your self care kit, sounds like a great idea.
Thank you, Amy, I ordered the Pastel Journal and got the discount. Looking forward to your shop launch and am enjoying my Patreon membership ❣️
I love that magazine, Sandy! I hope you do, too! Thank you for all you've done! We all appreciate it so much!
There are Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth Gioconda Hard Pastels
I will have to check them out! Thank you for the tip!
Have you tried Pan Pastels for underpainting? They have a basic set of 5 or 7 color’s including the primaries white and black…then you can mix any color you want. They are amazing, highly pigmented, and last forever! Try at least one or two 😁
Yes I have! I like them for some things, but not for others. I use them for a block in stage, which is different than an underpainting, or at least the way I use the word underpainting. When I say underpainting, I'm using the term like an underpainting for an oil painting. Those can be done in several different way, but usually they are all done in shade of sepia, they can be done in complimentary colors (SO yellow where you would have a blue sky) or they can be done based on whether that area is going to be warm or cool in the finished painting. I find that the pan pastels do not work well for that. You need something that is more permanent and won't mix with the top colors. So, things like ink, watercolor, or hard pastels that are then washed down with alcohol or water. Thank so much for watching and commenting!
This may sound really silly, but I’ve never heard or seen anything about the invisible glove. I live in Australia and I don’t do oil paints but I do you hate getting things on my hands all the time could you show is in a video just a little explanation of what it is and how you use it, how it works.
💖🌹💖 FYI… some of the longer sentences that come across don’t stay long enough to read the whole thing.
I saw that when I watched it today. I don't know what happened! They were okay when I uploaded it! I will try to figure it out before the next video!
You could maybe pause the video long enough to read the lines?
A friend of mine, who also has Crohn's, and is Celiac as well, uses Seed, Seed is a probiotic, and a prebiotic. Multiple kinds within each capsule. She orders it online, I am sure that it is easy to find the URL. She has had great luck with it. Her flare ups are not only less often, but not as intense and don't last as long. You should check with your doctor to see if Seed could be something for you.
I've tried that. I've tried everything. Nothing has helped. It's always a little bittersweet for me when I hear some non-medication thing helped someone, I have tried some many many things. Nothing helps though. I always wonder, if it works for someone else, why doesn't it work for me? It's kind of heartbreaking. But I am so very glad for you friend! Thanks for watching.
I am so sorry that things are working for you. I know it must be a pain.@@winterwoodsstudio
Blick carries Cretacolor Hard pastels open stock. I don't know if you have tried those to see if they have comparable colors.
I will have to check them out! Thank you for the tip!
Hi have you tried Faber castell pastels. They are hard and come in thin oblong shape. X
I haven't! I actually have an artist friend who absolutely hates them so I just never tried them. Have you? Do you like them?
@@winterwoodsstudio i own them and find them good for detail work over panpastel or a softer underpainting. The thing i struggle with is the feel of soft pastels lol
I just looked up Ferris Wheel Press and they are a Canadian company which is so cool for me because I am a Crazy Canuck and it will be easier to order from them. In Canada we don't have all the selection of art supplies that you do, I guess if we did it would be dangerous for my pocketbook. I don't look forward to the autumn and winter either. I take a medication once a week for my RA and I am so fatigured for 4 days and then I only have 2 good days to get everything done until I have to take another dose. I also have flareups and the dark months are the worse. Even my cat has IBD and she does so well all spring and summer but once winter comes she will have a flareup for 4 months and then she has to go on predisonone which makes her not seem like my cat, all she thinks about then is how can she get something to eat. Have a great weekend. P.S. I am just starting out in soft pastels so I am looking forward to your tutorials.
I'm so sorry to hear that! The medications are so hard, aren't they? Sometimes I almost feel like they are worse than the thing they are treating. I know that isn't true. but it feels like it sometimes. I hope you find some way to make your dark months a little brighter. I hope you know you aren't alone. I think a lot of us feel that way. We are there for you! And your cat! Poor thing. I know just how she feels. :( Thank you for watching and commenting.
Are Holbein soft pastels long square?
I'm not sure but I will definitely check it out! Thanks for the tip!
Know almost nothing about pastels, however isn’t there pan pastels to use for the under painting? Sorry you are suffering with the crohn’s disease, hope that improves for you soon. Congratulations on the Ferris wheel press ink ambassador, that sounds fantastic.
If I'm going to do any blending at all, I don't use pan pastels because they will blend with the top layers. There are also only so many layers you can put on a piece of paper and then it won't take anymore. To get around that, you can use hard pastels and an alcohol or water wash over it, which essentially turns it into paint, which then dries. It doesn't mix in with blending and it doesn't take up the tooth of the paper. Panpastel and the softer pastels deposit too much pigment and aren't good for that technique. I will also use some of the hard pastels edges to make fine details at the end of the painting! And I am loving the inks so far! I can't wait to use them in a full illustration! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@winterwoodsstudio interesting about the pan pastels!
@@winterwoodsstudio that is so interesting about using alcohol as a wash. In my class the teacher told us to spray it with fixative and then it won't mix.
@@rahimirahimi8560 most pastel artists I know won't use fixative because it changes colors so dramatically. I do occasionally, especially if it's in a sketchbook. But most professional soft pastel pieces are fixative free.
@@winterwoodsstudiothat’s so interesting…. Could be another video 😂. Thanks for your detailed answer.
