I don’t mind the loss of those followers because honestly if that’s the reason then good riddance \o/ It’s only the occasional garbage comments and hate speech that is not fun to shovel out. It didn’t really impact me at all when I had around 1k followers but I shudder to think how that workload might increase should my follower number double in the future. It's important for me to keep these comment sections as a safe space for people to talk openly about themselves and creativity in general.

Paul Gray It isn’t that it’s wrong to be straight, of course it’s not, it’s just that having pride month is a way for people of the LGBTQ community to have a time to be free to be themselves. Straight pride isn’t needed because people are already free to express heterosexuality. It wasn’t long ago that marriage was illegal, and adoption is still complicated now, so having things like pride month and parades give people a chance to be themselves without being killed for it.

I don’t know what those people really even want because if I wasn’t doing art about my own life expectancies there would be no art at all. There are certainly enough options and other artists to provide them with other things 🤷♂️

No need to apologize. It’s honestly not something I sit here thinking about. If you’re aware of how much art I’m making all the time AND these videos it’s pretty clear that I simply don’t have time to get upset over that stuff. I just wanted straight people to be aware of this stuff going on. Pride is still relevant and it’s important. It’s easy not to notice homophobia when one is not exposed to it. Posting a video like this I knew that some people would unsubscribe. Yesterday 6 did but I also got 5 new subscribers too. I’m happy to know that that it was about time to post this talk. Clearly I wasn’t keeping to the base level of gay that is necessary. I’m not exactly a human rainbow 🌈 as a guy (but I try!) \o/

Mikko is an incredibly common male name in Finland so when I tried to sign up for deviantart 16 years ago I tried all kinds of letter combinations until I landed on this one. Angrymikko was the only Mikko that wasn't already taken. "Mikko of Finland" would probably work too since that would answer several questions at once XD
It is crazy and pretty depressing to know that people still are so on the fence about people being different, be it race, religion, sexual orientation... People are so strange. Very good of you to come out and share this with us!

Ugh, it sucks that there are people who still discriminate against you or unfollow you just because of your sexuality. You are an amazing artist, as an aspiring artist myself I’m a huge fan of your work and being gay or straight shouldn’t make a difference, especially since like you mentioned, your art isn’t about LGBTQ topics (even though I am a fan other other artists who make such content too). I’m a straight person, with plenty of LGBTQ+ friends, and I am always trying to learn how to be a better ally and supporter so thank you for sharing this :)
I think I could say that I'm a gay artist. I paint pretty guys because I like pretty guys. Also, I've seen many times people refusing to take comissions to draw gay couples, so I guess they identify as straight artists idk

omg Consistent Level of Gay is such a thing!! I get this too as a trans person where it's like "oh, I forget to respect your pronouns, you haven't mentioned your gender in at least a week."
In the past month I have been following your art videos and I said to myself "I think this guy is gay!". I do not know why but it just seems to ooze from your voice and general manner of speaking. And now I found this video and you confirmed it! :D I really would have been negative in the past about that ... but now I am more accepting. I care about your art and that you find joy in it. I watch your content with passion! I do not care about your relationships as long as you do not make it political or in peoples faces. But this should be applied to anything not only sexuality.

Everything in my life interferes with my art. Almost half of all that stuff you see on ig is about my relationships with the people I love. Including the picture in my avatar there.
I disagree that people should always be kind. That being said, I find it so crazy that people would unfollow anyone just because they find out that they are gay. Who f*cking cares what sexuality anyone else has?!
